Set in the idyllic village of Grayton Beach; this brand new cottage and carriage home look like they have been here forever. The sleek styling of the main cottage, designed by award-winning architect Tom Christ (who was the original architect and town planner for Robert Davis, the developer of critically acclaimed Seaside) and quaint carriage house coupled with an exotic pool/spa area will keep you feeling like you are in "high cotton". Every detail has been attended to with lots of loving attention. From the leathered granite countertops and gourmet stainless steel appliances (full-size in the carriage as well) to the kids media/activity room. There is a queen-size swing bed and four rocking chairs on the front porch to lounge on. The front porch is enclosed to give the ample space and a room-like feel while being outdoors and watching all that happens on DeFuniak Street. The back porch abuts to the beautiful pool, which is directly accessible off the porch steps. There is also a heated spa for those cooler days and nights.
The main cottage has 2 King bedrooms on the main level, each with private bath and flat screen TV. There is another King bedroom upstairs also with flat screen TV. A "kids room" with 3 twin beds and media/playroom is also on located on the 2nd level. The 3rd full bath is located on the 2nd level.
The backyard is the perfect place for cooking outdoors with a gas grill provided.
The carriage house is a wonder into itself with it's screened-in eating porch and deck located adjacent to the pool. The carriage home has gourmet appliances in the thoughtfully designed kitchen and living area with another large flat screen TV. There is a queen sized bedroom and private bathroom with a gorgeous glass and tile shower. The carriage house may also be rented separately or in conjunction with the main cottage. It is perfect for a couple wanting to get away from it all. To view more photos and information on the carriage house please see the following link: www.vrbo.com/206420
The magnificent sugar white sands and emerald waters of the Gulf of Mexico are approximately 200 yards from the home. This property is perfect for a large family or multiple families to create a memorable vacation experience!
Grayton Beach is about as laid-back and organic as a beach town can get, from the old-style wooden beach bungalows to the “hippie kitsch” feel of the iconic Red Bar to the narrow neighborhood streets lined with live oaks. But this is more than just a cool beach town. It’s home to the diverse coastal ecosystems of Western Lake and Grayton Beach State Park, and a gateway to a large expanse of sugar-white beach that is a haven for fishermen, boaters, and beachcombers alike.

Our family decided to put money towards a beach house instead of giving birthday and Christmas presents to one another throughout the year. We realized as our parents get older that experiences and memories far outweigh material items that get tossed aside after a few months. Pelicans Nest and The Egg could not have been more suitable for our family. The beach was easily accessible. We rode bikes to Seaside every morning for breakfast. The pool was shaded and a great central gathering spot throughout the day and after lunch.
Grayton was most enjoyable this particular time of year because the tide pools were perfect for the young ones and the lake feeds into the ocean allowing for great crabbing in the afternoons/evenings. Since we have boys who love to fish, it was a perfect spot to watch the boats come in each day with their catch. We have nothing but positive things to say about Pelicans Nest and The Egg. We made memories that will last us a lifetime and that is what Matters most.
Pelican's Nest and The Egg is a beautiful property nestled in a quiet neighborhood where we felt very safe. A short walk to the beautiful beach with powdery white sand and blue gentle waves was perfect for our extended family vacation. The house is well appointed with everything to make our stay easy and enjoyable. Stocked kitchen, high chair in closet, play room upstairs, multiple flat screen tv's, outdoor shower, pool, large porches with bed swings, all made our vacation easy and fun. We enjoyed biking up to Watercolor (for paddle boarding) and Seaside (for shopping.) We enjoyed our dinners at the Red Bar and Chiringo's, both in Grayton Beach. We had a little difficulty with two TV's (no instructions were available in the house) but the problem was corrected in a timely manner. The only downside is spotty cell phone service. We would definitely stay here the next time we head to the beach!
This property was perfect for our two families--four adults and six kids total. The parents were on the ground floor with en suite bathrooms and all of the kids were upstairs--between the two spacious rooms. The room w/three twin beds has a play room attached; the kids loved this space. The front and back porches are fantastic. The bed swings are AWESOME. The house was very clean and had everything we needed--kitchen tools, towels, etc. Overall, we were very pleased with the house and it met all our needs. The house came with a bunch of bikes (from training wheels to large cruisers), which we enjoyed. The bikes do need a little tuning up as they are obviously exposed to the elements. The house is very close to the small commercial area that includes the Red Bar, which is a big plus. It's also a short walk/bike ride to more Grayton shops at Defuniak and 30A. And it's easy to get to WaterColor, Seaside, etc.
The weather was somewhat chilly and windy, so we had the pool heated. It was not warm enough at first, but they quickly turned up the heat at our request. Given the high winds, we spent very little time on the beach. I don't know what we would have done without the pool and hot tub. The kids spent most of their time hopping between the two. If you are able to enjoy the beach, it's an easy walk. As others have written, the route to the beach is not very pedestrian friendly. The road is busy and the shoulder (no sidewalks) is narrow; I was a little nervous with our group of kids. One other issue re: the beach--people with permits are allowed to drive their vehicles on a section of the beach that is very close to where we set up our towels and chairs. Ew.
The only big negative we experienced was that mid-way through our visit, an older couple arrived to stay in the back guesthouse. They were extremely nice, and I felt a little sorry for them given that they arrived at a time when all of the kids were going wild in the pool. (The pool/patio is basically all that separates the two houses and they had to enter the backyard where we were every time they left the house). The carriage house is described as "perfect for a couple wanting to get away from it all." I fear that this was not the experience for these folks. That being said, my complaint is that we were not informed that anyone would be renting the carriage house--strangers just suddenly appeared in the backyard. A heads-up would have been appropriate. Otherwise, our experience was fantastic
Pelican' Nest is a beautiful home within just a few minute walk to stores, restaurants and the beach. Our two families with 4 young children fit comfortably in this beautiful 4 bedroom home to celebrate the new year. An added feature for us was discovering the pack n play and highchair nicely tucked away in a closet. Would recommend this home for beach vacations, however, our only considerations to offer are that the house is located on a high traffic street, which can be problematic with active toddlers, and if you're planning on paying to heat the pool we would recommend not doing so in 50 degree weather. Other than that we had a lovely stay.
All of our family was able to join us for our 50th wedding anniversary celebration. We have a wonderful time and the accommodations were terrific. Both of the units were very neat and well maintained. The owners were very accommodating and very easy to contact. We will probably go back for our after the next 50 also. Jim
We LOVED our stay at Pelicans Nest!!! It was such a short walk to Everything! The beach and town of Grayton couldn't have been any better!! The house was perfect, our favorite part was the screened in porch with the swinging bed for sure!:) We had such a fun time on the bikes provided. We rode them everywhere! Loved how it was a peaceful quiet town, but only a couple of miles from Seaside. We will be back for sure!!!!!
