About Jill Warila

We live in on the north side of Mt Hood in the small farming community of Parkdale, Oregon. On 23 acres, we raise grass fed beef, chickens, and raise our own hay.

Steve works at Mt Hood Meadows and Jill works as a studio potter at home. Of three kids only one remains at home and is in middle school.

Steve enjoys kiting in the columbia river and we often come to Manzanita if the wind is blowing!

We think we have the best of the best having a home in the upper Hood River Valley and a home in Manzanita.

Jill Warila purchased this house in 2010

Why Jill Warila chose Northern Coast

We have strong ties to the North Oregon coast. Steve grew up on the Young's River in Astoria and Jill's mother has owned a second home in Manzanita for 30+ years.

We have had many wonderful times fishing, hiking and walking the beautiful beach. We have watched the area become a successful business district but still retain that small beach town feeling that is hard to find.

When it became our turn to buy a second home in Manzanita we had a few requirements: it needed to have an ocean view, a wind sheltered deck and be within walking distance to beach access. We found all of those requirements and more in Whitecaps.

Awesome dog-friendly home steps from the beach!

  • 5 of 5

Not sure what the VRBO record is for 5-star reviews, but here's my contribution for this property. Our pooches are always with us for our semi-annual coastal trips. We accept that "dog-friendly" usually means things can be a bit worn out and not as spiffy. If we had a coastal home I would like to think it would be as well appointed and maintained as this one. The beach is indeed right there. The house is well thought out and the front deck is user friendly. The two queen mattresses are of excellent quality. The kitchen does indeed have everything a cook needs to create. Good wifi pipeline, TV HDMI cable already in place. Less than a mile to the grocery store. Jill was quick to respond to all inquiries. We'll be back.

The cottage is very cozy and comfortable, and we especially loved the wood burning stove. Super close to the beach and town, comfortable beds and well-stocked kitchen.

Great Oregon Coast Get-a-way

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed a fantastic long weekend at the Whitecaps. The location is fantastic, just one block from the beach and about half mile walk to Manzanita. Easy access to restaurants, coffee shops, and stores. There are also several hiking trails in the area with in a few minutes drive as you are right next to Oswald West State Park and Nehalem Bay State Park . We did Neahkahnie Mountain Trail and highly recommend it if you want a beautiful view of the beach and Nehalem bay.

The property is in excellent shape and has all the amenities for a enjoyable stay. Full kitchen, grill on the deck, full bath, wi-fi, satellite TV, and 2 comfy queen sized beds. It was great to have coffee in the morning on the deck and a read book, and to be grilling steaks as we were watching the sun set.

The Jill was great to work with, as communication was quick and very informative. The information provided about the surrounding area was helpful. Check-in was easy and everything was in order when we arrived.

If you are looking for a place to stay on the Oregon coast, I highly recommend the Whitecaps.

Cozy seaside home

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Whitecaps. We were just a block from the world-class beach and oh-so-comfortable when we decided just to curl up and read. The kitchen was particularly well-stocked, the beds were comfortable and we were happy as clams. Extra points for the loan of lots of beach toys (and bikes!) and for allowing our sweet dog to come along, too. I highly recommend Whitecaps.

Everything you could ask for!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Whitecaps!

The apartment is very clean and updated.

Manzanita Beach is a quaint, quiet town with cute stores and nice restaurants. We enjoyed going through the shops and loved watching the kites on the beach.

The bakery has delicious cinnamon rolls and serves breakfast and lunch. We loved the San Dunes pub, too. I will warn you , though, the Mexican food wasn't so good. But we're from California so are used to a different kind of regional cooking. It doesn't mean, though, that those who run the restaurant aren't welcoming, they are, also they serve a good margarita! We bought a delicious pie at the place across from the grocery store.

The beds are very comfortable. There is a nice deck where you can sit at the table, listen to bird song and watch the sun go down. The kitchen is a gem. It is well stocked with sweet touches of lovely pottery. The washing machine and dryer come in very handy. There are beach chairs and bikes in the garage. All we brought were our clothes and we didn't need to buy anything but the food we ate during our stay. If you want to cook, the cupboards have spices and other condiments so you don't have to go out and buy them.

We would recommend this cute and restful place to anyone who can climb a flight of steps to a sweet getaway!
