Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8-11)

This mountain home is located on a corner lot in a private neighborhood 2 miles north of Ouray. There is a secluded patio with outdoor fire pit, shaded by Pine tress. The patio takes up much of the small back yard, but there is plenty of room in the front for kids to play! Over-sized attached 2 car garage. The original owners of this house built a small log cabin style house. A few years later they enlarged it by adding a large living room with an loft bedroom above it and a large 2 car garage with laundry and entryway. When we purchased this house in 2006, we renovated it from top to bottom, replacing the lovely 80's carpeting with wood flooring, a new kitchen and bath downstairs and a new enlarged bath upstairs, with a skylight in the large shower, allowing for a great view of the surrounding pines while showering.

When renovating, we turned the open loft bedroom over the living room into a semi-closed off bedroom by building a full height wall with double closets. There is still open space between the living room and the master bedroom, so there may be some noise that carries over. Living there, my husband and I had no problems, but if you have a large group, your experience may be different.

There is one bedroom downstairs with a full bath. Upstairs there are 2 large bedrooms, one with 2 queen beds, one with a king bed, and a large bathroom with double sinks and view shower. The living room has pullout sofa bed.

Quiet, yet close to town. Hiking trails within walking distance. An abundance of wildlife is visible regularly, birds, small animals, deer, elk, even bears!!

About Vicki Rooker

We are retired paramedics from San Francisco, resettled in the mountains to get away from the everyday hustle and bustle of city living. We had visited Ouray several times prior to our move and although the lifestyle change was 180 degrees, we have really enjoyed the quiet and slower pace of our mountains.

Vicki Rooker purchased this house in 2006

What makes this house unique

Master bedroom skylights allow views of the moon & stars as we fell asleep to the quiet with only water sounds from Corbett Creek to lull us to sleep or the occasional soft 'whump' of snow cascading off of the pine boughs in winter.

Just as advertised! Quiet mountain home close to town!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The home was very comfortable, quiet and located in a small enclave of maybe a dozen houses just a few minutes beyond downtown. Very private but also very convenient to restaurants, grocery store, hiking trails, etc. It was just two of us with our dog so obviously we had ample room -- the house could very comfortably fit three couples. The owners were very responsive and friendly. We were traveling with our dog and very much appreciate this dog-friendly home. We'd happily stay here again!

I arranged for stay her for a guys weekend with 5 of my friends. Great place. Close to Ouray, but far enough away that it feels like a retreat. Well stocked, nice fire pit outside for evening campfire. Would definitely stay again!

Owner's Response: Thank you for letting us know you found some issues with our house. Sometimes we don't always know specific small details unless a guest informs us. Last year, I instituted a maintenance request program wherein guests can fill out a form advising us of any areas that need addressed. Those requests help us keep on top of repairs needed, but clearly some items fell through the cracks. I have addressed all the issues listed and re-educated my cleaning staff to watch out for those kinds of details.

Comfortable

  • 4 of 5

The home is very close to Ouray. The only negative issue was no air conditioning....while it does get cool at night, the middle bedroom took a long time to cool down...also had an afternoon wedding at the Belmont to dress for,....very warm getting into dresses and suits at 1pm.

well stocked with towels and equipped kitchen. The children loved the hideout with a wall chalk board to draw.

Best home in Ouray!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at several homes in the area and this was one of the best! It is centrally located between Ouray and Ridgway in a quiet neighborhood near a creek. The home has plenty of room for 8 people; clean and well kept. TV, internet and Satellite all worked well and were easy to use. The washer and dryer are an added bonus. Vicki had lots of information at the home about things to do in the area and places for dining out. Kitchen was well stocked. It was wonderful to travel with our fury friends and Vicki was responsive and easy to work with. We are scheduled to stay again at the end of the summer. Vicki thank you for sharing your lovely home with us; our stay couldn't have been any better. C and B.
