Bring your gear - on over 25 acres and 800' of south east shoreline Indian Fields is set up for an active vacation. Fishing, crabbing, boating, kayaking and swimming in the private waterfront pool is just for starters. Indian Field's front porch facing the river is perfect for the family crab feast. Bring a bocce ball or croquet set - the front lawn is perfect for a tournament while those less inclined relax in the shade. A pick up game of hoops on the waterside basketball court (single backboard) keeps everyone in shape. Less than 3 minutes from the property check out Horn's Point Kids Bay Adventure Program where the kids pre-k through 8 can ride their bikes to Horn Point and explore the Bay through outdoor adventures, kayaking, canoeing and more. Looking to be a little less "earthy" but still want to be outdoors grab a tee time at Clearview at Horn's Point which is also less than 2 miles from the property. The par 72/73 course plays to just over 6,450 yards. Grab a drink or dinner waterside at Bobby's, the oysters are local. Indian Fields is over 3,500 square feet and sympathetically restored to its classic 1920s style just this year. Glossy wood floor planks remind you of how homes used to be built. Indian Fields is perfectly set up for one or two families with a cozy "cousins bunk room" for late night whispering while the grown-ups enjoy an evening on the front porch facing the Choptank. Trust us the kids will be tired at day's end and you will have some coveted time to relax. Forget those crowded beaches and noisy boardwalks and come to Indian Fields. A vacation where the kids can let the screen door hit them on their way out and you don't have to worry about getting stuck in traffic, unless moving a turtle off of the road on a bike ride constitutes gridlock!

Beautiful property, real nice old house with great character!
This property is beautiful with great amenities. The pool is great with great views. The only negatives are the window unit AC units are noisier than central air, no AC in the kitchen which is hot especially if you use the stove, a few of the kitchen tools were broken and we could not use. It needs a good over all scrub down as well. But we would rent here again despite the black flies. They are brutal. The flies are all over this section of the shore. Not sure what you can do about it.
This was a great house for an extended family. Breakfast on the patio overlooking the river, kayaking in the river, and smores under the stars.
We rented this property for our Thanksgiving holiday weekend. It was the a gorgeous property and the perfect setting for our gathering. I want to go back there this summer!
Our family stayed the week of the fourth of July-we had a wonderful time, our grandchildren were kept busy swimming and fishing off the dock. The view of the river was breathtaking and the home was very clean. The owner was very friendly and helpful. If you're looking for a quiet, relaxing time to spend with your family-this is a good pick.
Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay! Hope to see you on MD's Eastern Shore again soon! --Eastern Shore Vacation Rentals
Old charm needs modern updates
I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental.
I was happy with the location.
The vacation rental was somewhat dirty.
The property manager was adequately helpful.
Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental.
This old charmer was quaint and the view was great. Out morning coffee gazing at the sunrise over the Choptank River was great. The private dock is perfect for water sports/fishing/crabbing. The salt water pool was well maintained.
Towels, bed linens, and kitchen utensils/dishes/pottery were all provided. The gas grill was convenient. The dishwasher, washing machine and dryer were outdated and not working to potential. The remote location was inconvenient, grocery stores were some distance away.
At a cost of $5000, this rental desperately requires some MODERN updates. The lack of water pressure and hot water reserve in the bathrooms made one very cranky, especially after a long day of activity. Yes, we certainly took turns showering and made sure the washing machine and dishwasher were not running simultaneously. The master bath windows were not dressed for privacy. Trash cans were not provided in bathrooms. The first floor bath had a hole in its window. Mgmnt was informed but there was no follow up.
The bed linens had red stains. Mgmnt response was "was it the bed sheets or comforters?" Everything should be clean, no questions asked. The couch cushions smelled funky.
Trash collection cans provided were too small. We resorted to storing trash adjacent to the cans. Plus, there was no outlet for recycling so, trash filled up even faster because we were three families.
Though there was internet connection, wifi was extremely slow.
Overall, disappointment describes Indian Fields. Though the grounds were well maintained, the interior was not. As a costly rental, it needs some modern updates. Kitchen and baths should be updated with up-to-date appliances and fixtures. The plumbing system needs an overhaul. The linens should ALL be clean and fresh. The sofas (and cushions) should be steam cleaned or replaced. Trash collection must be revised.
Manager responded on 9/1/2014:
We are sorry you had these concerns and agree this rental is definitely for those who value the grounds, view, privacy and feel of an older home vs. a newer rental. Some of your concerns are easy fixes (window treatment, repair, couch cleaning, more trash cans). Some are systemic with the home -
Family getaway at Indian Fields
I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental.
I was very happy with the location.
The vacation rental was spotless.
The property manager was very helpful.
Overall, I recommend this vacation rental.
We spent a week at Indian Fields with four generations of family. This is a property for nature lovers and for a quiet get away. We fished, crabbed, swam in the river, played board games, swam in the salt water pool. The kids loved it. The adults were able to relax and enjoy the view. We saw a bald eagle, baby deer, skates swimming under the dock, lots of crabs and fish, frogs, osprey. Everytime we needed something, the house seemed to have it. An old farmhouse, lovingly restored with tons of character.
One of the oldest towns in Maryland, this small town sits on the banks of the Choptank River. About an hour from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, Dorchester County boasts famous residents such as Harriet Tubman, the most famous of Underground Railroad 'conductors' who led dozens of enslaved people to freedom, and Sharpshooter Annie Oakley. Also, more Maryland governors are from this area than any other with the exception of Baltimore City! Explore Cambridge and surrounding Dorchester County's long history as an agricultural and canning powerhouse, and their boatbuilding and maritime heritage—there are several self-guided walking tours, driving tours, river excursions and museums to help you experience the stories and history. Called the 'Heart of Chesapeake Country' because of it's location and shape, there are 1700 miles of shoreline surrounding 39 percent of Maryland's wetlands in the area, providing endless opportunities for kayaking, biking, and exploring.
