About Carol or Craig Rancourt
I am a social worker and volunteer manager with an Agency for the Elderly. I grew up in Maine, graduated from Scarborough High School and the University of Southern Maine. I still live in my family home in Scarborough and have spent more then 50 summers at this wonderful spot on Little Sebago Lake.
Carol or Craig Rancourt purchased this Cabin in 1960
Why Carol or Craig Rancourt chose Windham
This 'camp' was a family adventure. My parents took my brother and me for a ride on Sunday in 1960 and we saw the for sale sign. We stopped and fell in love with the spot. The cottage was unfinished at the time, no lights, no running water but following a family vote we bought it and have been there ever since. With more than 50 summers at 'camp' I can tell you nothing beats the pristine water, the beautiful sunrises and moonrises, the diamonds on the water, the loons gliding right out front. Fishing is wonderful and we occasionally have a visit from deer or moose.
What makes this Cabin unique
All you have to do is roll out of bed and jump into the lake, drop a line and catch perch, trout or bass, kayak, row or just lounge on the deck and watch the chipmunks and birds at play. We have internet but you may just choose to shut it all off and enjoy nature at its best.

Beautiful location but......
There is a beach, dock which we enjoyed. The location is wonderful. The problem is that the cabin was very dirty to the point we could not stay there unless we cleaned it ourself. I wish I could post pictures. There were fans in the larger bedroom, the porch and the Livingroom. If anyone has allergies they would never have been able to have the fans on prior to thoroughly cleaning them. The oven did not work which was not disclosed in the listing. The grill was unusable between filth and rust. So, unless you could cook anything you wanted in a pan on top of the stove you were out of luck. We ate all our meals out and left early even though we paid to the end, it was just so dirty. Each corner had long time built up dirt and cob webs every place. Not sure what we paid a cleaning fee for as this was not recent dirt, this has been in this shape for a long time I would guess. Very disappointing experience and for this price anyone should be able to expect more.
Sorry you were unhappy. I will agree that the grill is old and will be replaced. However the oven does light and works very well. The cottage is not dirty and is cleaned each week. By the way we do not charge a cleaning fee at all. We ask that tenants leave it as they found it. Unfortunately most guests do not do so. Since we have only a 4 hour turn around between guests a complete cleaning is not possible inside and out unless we did change a cleaning fee for professionals to do the work. We will consider adding that next year. With regard to the fans, I am sorry if they were dusty, thank you for alerting to that issue.
Great location but needed someone to use a little elbow grease on the place( i.e. the windows and screens). Also the grill was very dirty and old. Also a little dangerous because the o ring in the connector was broken. Also out of propane. Again though it's a beautiful spot which is priceless.
Thank you for your review. We do wash the window s in the spring but as the camp is on a dirt road the get very dusty as the heat and dry weather increases. We have only a 4 hour turn around time every Saturday so windows aren't part of the regular routine in that short time period.
Sorry about the grill being out of gas, I did not realize that. If any of my tenants have a problem I encourage them to call the phone number I provide and we will take care of any problem as quick as we can, hopefully in an hour or two.. In spite of it all I am glad you enjoyed the beauty of Little Sebago Lake.
The lake is beautiful and having the boat, kayak and chairs were wonderful. The cabin's interior is older and could benefit from new furniture and a good cleaning out (drawers in kitchen are full - old tools etc.) The beds in the bunk room are not very comfortable. The carpets need to be cleaned or pulled. I would recommend taking down the hanging decorations in the living room to open it. The cabin has lots of potential but is in need of some cleaning.
Thank you for the review. The cabin is meant to be rustic, hence the decor. The rugs and camp are regularly professionally cleaned, however this summer has been unusually humid causing a non-air conditioned environment to be somewhat musty. We are adding a dehumidifier to take care of the problem. The bunkroom has vintage army bunk beds with bunk mattresses. They are not full twin beds.We have found that children love the room.
A PLEASANT SURPRISE!
My husband and I traveled over 9 hours to relax on one of Maine's most beautiful lakes. The setting of this camp was so welcoming. You can't beat having a warm and inviting lake behind your camp. Every item we needed for cooking was there for us. There was plenty of room to spread out but our favorite spot was on the large screened in porch. You could hear the loons and the water splashing on the property when a boat went by. We will certainly return in the future.
So glad you enjoyed your stay at our little "gem". We have enjoyed it for over 50 years and the beauty of the lake and the loon call has never dimmed. We are pleased to share it with visitors!
Gorgeous views and privacy
The cottage is not totally secluded as I originally thought, but the nicest neighbors and owners of the other cottages were so considerate I could not have asked for a more homey and wonderful place. Carol responds to any question or concern within such a short time, she must wear a beeper just for any question a tenant might have. Yes, there is a road that you can hear cars if you are out front on the front porch, but the speed limit is 15 mph and everyone seems to obey that. It was a nice way to just relax and reflect on the beauty of Maine and the people who live and visit here. And the water was like a bath tub warm!!!
Thanks so much!
So glad you enjoyed your stay and that your dogs did too! Depending on when you visit it can be very quiet but in high summer there will be cars eager to get to their little piece of heaven on Little Sebago.
Little Sebago is spring fed but you are right the water this year warmed up fast and is lovely.
We were very pleased with our time at the camp. Excellent wi-fi reception. Great fishing. The beach was very nice. Totally satisfied.
