COHUTTA - CHEROKEE FOR 'MOUNTAINS THAT HOLD THE SKY.' Come see for yourself and enjoy the cabin and pond in the mountains. Our newer tasteful log cabin is yours to kick back and relax, or use as a jumping off point for all that this extraordinary recreational area has to offer. Great 'base camp' location for adventure: whitewater, fishing, kayaking, hiking or antiquing!

Our location is convenient to the traveler, yet tucked away and quiet. Perfectly located for the vacationer, World class whitewater is only 10 minutes drive West...and the charming town of Murphy only 15 minutes East. Or just stay here on our two acres and cast a line for trophy largemouth bass, catfish or bream in the pond. Stroll the paths that the Cherokee once wandered, or launch our canoe for your use- its yours to decide!

The Cohutta Cabin is well equipped (central air, satellite, fireplace) and child friendly. We have a list of destinations and eateries for your convenience. Children will love to catch salamanders and frogs along the ponds edge. There is even a special salamander 'spot' close to the cabin.

This area is rich in Cherokee culture, antiques and nationally known outdoor recreational opportunities on nearby reservoirs, National Forests, mountains and trails. C'mon up,it always cools off here at night! In spring, summer and fall, Cohutta Cabin is near it all!

Beautiful, private and tranquil.

I surprised my sister with a rafting trip and a weekend stay at this beautiful cabin for her birthday. It was clean, very welcoming and cozy. When you walk in, it feels like home. It doesn't feel artificial like some places. My favorite part of the whole trip was drinking my morning coffee on that beautiful covered porch listening to the birds. It was so relaxing, I really hated to leave. But on a lighter side, we booked this cabin again for 3 weeks from now for another rafting trip. Looking forward to our next trip.

The cabin was just as described, clean and cozy. This was our first time using Home away rental and the owners were easy to work with. Our trip was for visiting relatives in Murphy. We got there at 11pm and it was raining when our GPS took us to the wrong street. Mrs.Costello was so nice to guide us to the cabin on the phone. I have to admit that the driveway was little scary trying to navigate it in the rain and at night for the first time. After that we got the hang of it and had no problems. They even left the light on for us which was a big help. We stayed two nights and the cabin was perfect for my husband and I. I would recommend it to anyone.

Owner's Response: Barbara- Thank you for your great review and glad to help guide you that late rainy night. (GPS can be fickle!) The cabin is sure a peaceful place…and we are happy you were able to take a couple days and get away. Best, Bob and Marianne Costello

Quiet, relaxing getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This is a great little cabin - the best we've ever had for a homeaway rental! It was very clean and the bed was comfy. Deck had a charcoal grill and porch swing for great fall evenings. Gas fireplace added an easy romantic element in the evenings as well. No WiFi (which was great to get away from email for a few days). Bass pond/canoe was fun - only caught small bass. Located right off the highway, but feels private/secluded. Driveway is steep, but only ~20 feet long, so you shouldn't get stuck.

Exceeded Expectations 1000%

This cabin rental was a HUGE addition to our trip to the Biltmore this weekend. Plus, I want to begin building a cabin in the next 1-2 years, so I was curious as to the place itself. It's very impressive from a craftsmanship POV. I could EASILY live here! The pictures don't do it justice. The paneling on the inside (which usually isn't my favorite style) looks amazing. The kitchen is nice....modern appliances, easily enough room for 2-3 people to cook in. Nice little retro-feeling dining table, which was just the perfect size. The main living room is not's perfectly cozy and the fireplace is an attractive focal point with a hidden TV above it. The master bedroom is beautiful. 4 corner post bed. The bathroom is bigger than we expected. And there was an additional guest bathroom in the hall. The second bedroom is perfect for up to 2 people. EVERYTHING was super clean and well thought out. Towels folded, waiting for you. Plenty of toilet paper, paper towels, cups and plates, super clean and modern frig. Grill on the deck w space charcoal (we just used what we brought though). Both Bobs (father and son, which is the owner) are very nice and made the setting up the stay easy and enjoyable. No doubt 5 star experience. If you want to rent a cabin for 2 up to maybe 6 people (the sofa is a sleeper), and you want an honest price without all of the extra fees, this should be your first consideration. The only thinking lacking is wifi. But, we knew that and kinda wanted to get away. My wife still had a signal w Verizon for her tablet and just used some of her data to Skype her mom. Other than that, we had cellular reception for calls and texts (Verizon and mine is Sprint), so no worries there. Great experience. Thank you!

Rafting Safe House

  • 5 of 5

We rented this cabin because it was located between the two rivers we wanted to raft. We could not have asked for a more centrally located place. When we arrived it was great. All you could ask for and more. Very comfortable, made you feel like you were in the woods, with all comforts of home. It was very clean. Would recommend to anyone. The owners were very easy to work with. Even had the light on for us(we had a late arrival time).

Weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

We were able to get this beautiful place on the spur of the moment on our way home from Asheville. The cabin is so homey, clean and peaceful! It looks just like the photos! We had a rainy night the first night there and being able to sit on the back porch with the rain hitting the tin roof was so relaxing and romantic! You can not see the pond during this time of year but it is only a short walk thru the woods. I cant tell you much about that part cause it is not our thing but i did read in the owners guest book about the fun that many people had with the canoe. The only drawback we found was the driveway. The cabin sits below the road so you have to get a little running start but we made it fine with our car. Bob senior the owners dad is close by and is willing to help with any questions. There are nice resturants nearby in Blue Ridge but make reservations first! Would recommend Brothers copper kettle in Ducktown and Shoebooties in Murphy. We had a wonderful time there and would recommend it to anyone who needs to get away and relax or a great place to come home to after sightseeing or rafting! Thanks Bob!

Owner's Response: Karen- Thank you so much for your kind review and we are glad you enjoyed our cabin. We appreciate the comments- and have kept after the driveway, in terms of grading…it is a bit steep- but slow is the trick. We have never had anyone get stuck! Much obliged again- Bob and Marianne
