Overview

About the property

1 Bedroom (Queen Size) 1 Full Bathroom with 1 Queen size sofa bed

Please read the entire description (we've had guests not read this description and have incorrect expectations... we have the faults listed (no place is perfect)... but you have to read this the description to know what they are):

Dry River Cabin is rustic, cozy and comfortable real cabin that was built in the World War II era. Again, this is a real cabin. There is one bedroom with a queen size bed and a pullout couch in the living room. This cabin sleeps 4 in beds (including the pull-out couch). The maximum occupancy is 6 that we will allow to stay there. This cabin is probably a good fit for those who are really wanting to stay in an older rustic cabin. This is not new construction, but then again new construction does not usually have this much character or history.

The cabin was originally built as a Summer getaway in the mountains. It is a very cute cabin, the second to last cabin on a dead end private road that is almost at the top of the mountain. The road can be rough at times (after heavy rains or snow), but we've had guests with every kind of car (including very nice luxury cars) make it up to the cabin without any trouble. We drive up every day in a little Volvo with no ground clearance easily... in snow you may need 4 wheel drive (we do own a full size backhoe which is used to clear the roads and we promise we can always drive you up if it snows in our 4 wheel drive if you'd prefer. This is our cabin with the best views of the mountains when the leaves are gone and also the most secluded.

We (Katie & Steven) are available almost always should you need anything. Please do not hesitate to let us know if there is anything at all we can do to make your stay more enjoyable while you are here. We are not just saying that... we mean it. If there is ever a problem please let us know so we can do our best to make it right. The cabin has one bedroom with a queen size bed and then there is a pull out queen size bed in the living room (the living room furniture is on the list to be replaced soon, as money permits, so just be aware of that). The bedroom has an old stone fireplace and there is fireplace insert (with glass) so the fire can be seen. There is also central heat should you need it as well. The cabin has a knotty pine in the interior, and a screened in porch with a great view of the mountain out front when there are no leaves on the trees. In the Summer the cabin feels even that much more secluded due to all the foliage.

The cabin has an older (not updated) full bath with claw foot tub, and a full kitchen with all the essentials: refrigerator, microwave, stove, oven and coffee maker and utensil and cookware. The kitchen and bathroom are not updated, but they fit with the theme of the cabin. There is central heat for the Winter and a window unit A/C in the living room that can be used in the Summer months if needed.

All linens and comforters are washed after every guest. The cabin has access to fishing and trails for hiking or mountain biking. It is about 10 miles from Harrisonburg and Bridgewater, so you're only minutes away from shopping and dinning as well.

Beloved pets are welcome, but we do require a Pet Fee per pet. Multiple pets are welcome so those with more than one pet are welcome to stay. There is also a Property Damage Insurance of at least $49.

Rates will vary during peak and holiday seasons.

Dry River Cabin is a great place to see the stars. On clear nights, you can see thousands of stars overhead. It is a beautiful sight. Also during the spring and summer months, you can see humming birds everywhere. We place feeders off the front porch of the cabin and have personally seen upwards of 20 birds feeding on them at one time. The humming birds should be arriving in April. You don't want to miss them.

Check in time is 4:00 pm until 10 pm and checkout is 11 am. Early check-ins, before 4, or Late check-ins, after 10 pm, and late check-outs, after 11 am, require a $20 per hour fee. Prior approval, advance, is required check-ins.

This is a real cabin in the mountains built long ago. Therefore it will not feel like new construction (since it isn't new construction), but then again, that is what gives the cabin its charm because it is unique and older. The cabin is on the top of the mountain bordering the George Washington National Forest. The forest contains all sorts of wildlife and deer can even be seen at times walking through the yard. Because this is a real cabin, there are things you should expect to find in an older real cabin such as spider webs (we clean them for every guest but they do reappear quickly), ladybugs, critters, ants, insects, and stink bug during certain times of the year. Sheets, toilet paper and towels are provided. Paper towels are not.

Pets are welcome at all of our properties. If you or someone in your group is allergic to pets or anything else (detergent, air fresheners, etc), please let us know in advance so we can discuss this prior to your booking and then also prior to your arrival. We will do our best to accommodate any special requests.

Guests are required to sign a rental agreement upon arrival and a photo ID. For this reason, the person who makes the reservation has to be the there at the time of check-in, unless the contract is signed and arrangements are made for someone else to check-in in advance.

Failure to show up/check in or contact owner before midnight of day of arrival will result in cancellation. Host reserves the right to rebook property if guest does NOT contact owner.

All pet fee(s), early/late check-in or late check-out, firewood or extra person fees are not refundable once paid.

Illegal drugs will not permitted on our properties under any circumstances. Smoking is not permitted inside any house or cabin or on any screen porch. There will be a $750 charge for any smoking in either of these areas. Illegal drugs being used anywhere on the property will result in a $750 charge. Kegs and hookahs are not permitted anywhere on property under any circumstances. There will be a $500 charge should either of these items (kegs or hookahs) be found on the property (this includes outside areas too). If smoking (inside or on screen porches), illegal drugs (meaning what is illegal in Virginia), keg(s), hookah(s) or fireworks (there is a $500 fine for having fireworks or for shooting firearms at a property) are found on the property the guest will be asked to leave and there will be no refund whatsoever for any portion of the stay (including any future days/nights). Guests failing to check-out by 11 am agree to pay $50 an hour for a late check-out beginning at 11:01 am. If the guest is still there at 12:00 noon then then the charge is another $50 and so on with each additional hour the guest overstays their reservation. Late check-outs require prior written permission and applicable late check-out fees to be paid.

Owners are not responsible to mail or hold on to left items.

About Katie and Steven Robert Jones

We believe service is what sets us apart in the vacation rental industry. Katie & I personally own every cabin that we manage. We check-in all of our guests personally (sometimes even as late as 2 or 3 in the morning with prior approval). When you arrive, the lights will be on and you will be welcomed and shown around the cabin, unlike most other rentals where you access a lock box and walk into a dark cold house. This is all we do 24/7 and we want all of our guests to have an amazing stay. We would be honored if you would allow us the opportunity to serve you.

We came to Virginia from Texas so I (Steven) could finish my college degree, but got into the vacation rental business by accident. :) We have four daughters under the age of 6. We have 6 rescue dogs, 9 rescue cats, 4 ponies, 14 goats & about 50 chickens.

Katie and Steven Robert Jones purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Katie and Steven Robert Jones chose Shenandoah Valley

We bought this cabin because it was the just up the road from our house, and we decided it would be a nice property to own. We love to spend the night up there when the cabin isn't rented out.

What makes this cabin unique

This is our most remote cabin, on the end of a private dead end road with direct access to the George Washington National Forest.

Everything was Great!!!

The only worry was the grill. The bottom was falling out and could be a fire hazard.

We had a terrific stay at this cabin

  • 5 of 5

We had a really terrific stay at this cabin located up on the mountain. Our dogs loved the trails and we loved being able to walk out the back door of the cabin and hit the trails without even having to get into the car. This was an enjoyable and relaxing place to spend some time. Great views and a cozy environment. Thanks for opening up your place to us.

The cabin was enjoyable except for the bed. The mattress was horrible. Would not stay there again.

Great location, Great care and great getaway!!!

  • 5 of 5

My fiance and I stayed at this location for four nights and we are planning on coming back every year. Landon always made sure everything was good, and made sure we had plenty of firewood. There was a chance of snow and accommodations were made to allow us to park our vehicle at a safer location. I highly recommend this cabin to anyone who enjoys spending time away from everything and just relaxing. Thank you for such an amazing experience!!!

Lovely old cabin at the top of the mountain.

  • 4 of 5

Just what we were looking for. The perfect getaway. Loved all of the old wood and the screened in porch with a beautiful view of the moon over the ridge. You can feel the history as soon as you walk in. Wish we knew the date it was built. The wood burning stove in the bedroom is also a perfect touch. We got engaged here and will definitely return. Once there, we learned the history of the old Rawley Springs Resort. Just beautiful!!!
