Enjoy this spacious and tastefully remodeled 900 square foot 1 bedroom unit, located on the sixth floor of a premier 20 story Diamond Head beachfront building - the Colony Surf. Take in breathtaking views of Diamond Head, palm trees, beach and surf all in one magnificent panorama, while sipping a morning coffee, or a late afternoon sundowner. The apartment temperature and air is always refreshingly comfortable with natural cross-ventilation. Ceiling fans in the living and bedroom areas can also augment cross-ventilation when needed. Because of the building’s orientation, sunshine only comes into the unit during morning and mid-afternoon and the apartment stays comfortable at all times by adjusting the shutters and jalousy windows.

The separate bedroom has a California King bed (70 inches wide), with bedside lamps, ceiling pot lights, phone and ceiling fan. Bedside tables provide three drawers each, plus a three drawer and a six drawer cabinet provide considerable storage space for clothes and personal items for two people. Burber carpeting was selected for bedroom comfort. The rest of the apartment has Italian ceramic tile flooring to give a fresh and bright appearance. The bedroom has a private access to the bathroom. The bedroom shutters on the Makai (ocean) side of the bedroom, and on the Mauka (Mountain) side of the bathroom provide a great cool breeze in the evening, very refreshing for sleeping.

The bathroom features a large clothes closet plus a towel and linen closet with a stacking washer and dryer. The bathroom is equipped with his ‘n’ her sinks and two large under-the-counter cabinets for toiletries and other personal items. A full-size bath tub and shower are also provided. The second entrance to the bathroom leads to the kitchen area, and provides a large utility closet with beach chairs, vacuum cleaner, ironing board, cleaning supplies, light bulbs, shopping cart and bags.

The kitchen and bathroom were designed with matching granite countertops in a lava/sand motif. The kitchen has been equipped with everything one might anticipate needing, including all major appliances, a kitchen island, minor appliances such as blenders, cuisenart slicer/dicer, coffee makers, carving set, knife sharpener, can openers, etc. The kitchen has a full complement of china, glassware, and quality cutlery, pots, pans, baking dishes, wok, rice cooker, slow cooker, and cooking utensils to meet requirements of nearly any recipe.

The ‘Office’ is a tidy area with six foot high teak bookcase and sliding doors, that separates the office from the kitchen. A teak and bamboo desk faces the mirrored wall to provide any hard-working individual sitting at the desk with a panorama of palm trees, surfing, and ships sailing by – what a way to work! WIFI, DSL and telephone are connected here.

Finally, the living room area is defined by two large couches, facing out to the ocean, over a large square glass-topped coffee table on an area carpet, with a 39 inch flat screen TV and a Sony blue ray DVD/CD player on one side, so be sure to bring some of your favorites along! The living room extends across the width of the apartment windows (30 feet), to create a reading nook that has become a favorite viewing spot for our guests, whether it is people watching, reading, or just taking in the view!

My wife and I are retired professionals who have been coming to Hawaii almost every winter for the past 40 years. During those visits, we have stayed at most of the beachfront hotel and rental property along Waikiki including the Ilikai, Hilton, Sheraton, Waikiki Beachcomber, Waikiki Shores, Sans Souci, and of course the Colony Surf Apartments. We rented at the Colony Surf for five years and we just knew that we wanted to have a place of our own at the Colony surf for a major part of our retirement activities.

Why Gary Vigers chose Diamond Head - Kapahulu - St. Louis

We chose to buy at Colony Surf Apartments for two main reasons: the QUALITY of the building,and LOCATION.

1) QUALITY - it is an extremely well-constructed concrete building, and units are amenable to be completely remodelled; we relished being able to remodel and re-design the unit for our convenience, comfort and life-style 2) LOCATION: It is a beachfront property, with a swimmer's entrance and beach entrance showers; Direct access to the semi-private beach shared with the Outrigger Canoe Club; surfing, swimming and kayaking are at our front door; We can (and do) beach walk and swim nearly 4 miles from the Colony Surf to the Hilton Lagoon and back on the Waikiki beaches and seawalls; Ideal retirement location, parking included; Many available amenities including Kapiolani Park and Diamond Head just behind us.

What makes this tower unique

All of the highrise buildings on the Gold Coast were constructed in the late 1950's and early 1960's. In the late 1960's, the City and County of Honolulu put a moratorium on high rise construction along the Diamond Head Gold Coast, and limited new building construction to 3 stories (30 feet). The unique benefit is that our viewscapes over the Outrigger and Elks Clubs can never be compromised. It is a peaceful location, but conveniently located next to Kapiolani Park for walking into Waikiki (15 minutes) or jogging (2 miles once around the park). Another unique benefit is that we both lose weight doing our regular Waikiki beach walk /swims! Finally, as we do our walk and swim, we have made many wonderful friends and aquaintances among the regular 'snowbirds' and locals that provides some great daily socializing!

a great condo-- I just don't give 5 stars.....

We had a wonderful March and April in Hawaii and this condo was perfect for us! The Colony Surf is located across from Kapiolani Park and a 15 minute walk from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. We enjoyed not being in Waikiki, -- But could easily walk there--- and loved the easy access to the east side of the island for visiting old friends, as a starting point for our walks around the park, around Diamond Head, to the Kapiolani farmers market and even to Whole Foods in Kahala Mall. If one doesn't want to walk, the bus stop is 100 feet from the building and one could take it anywhere. Having a parking space was great for when we rented a car.

The views from the condo of the ocean when you looked to the right and of Diamond Head to the left are ones we did not tire of and that we are missing. We watched whales, sailboats, and surfers and saw amazing sunrises over majestic Diamond head

We loved spending time at San Souci Beach-- there is a small beach at the Colony Surf-- but it could get crowded so being able to walk a few steps to this wonderful swimming beach was great!

The fact the unit was a true one bedroom worked very well for us as opposed to the open studio that most of the colony surf units are.

The unit is well stocked for cooking.

The furniture is aging, but comfortable.

Having a washer and dryer in the unit was great!

I can't say enough good things about the process of renting with Gary and Judy and truly thank them for letting us spend time in their Hawaiian home.

We hope to be able to again spend a month or two in Hawaii

Just as a p.s. And for full disclosure The Outrigger club next door with its outdoor volleyball court and dining area can be quite loud at times, and you will hear music from the Elks Club on certain nights. -- some musical acts better than others.😄. It didn't go late into the night-- I think the club must close at 9 or 10. And for us these sounds were much more pleasant than the sounds of sirens and traffic that one hears in Waikiki proper.

Rotation Vacation

My wife and I spent the month of May here. I had a rotation at the University of Hawaii and she had a month off. I have been traveling quite a lot in my life and this was the first time that I actually said "Wow" when I walked through the door of my accommodations.

The apartment is beautifully furnished and the views of the ocean and Diamond Head are unparalleled. The apartment was clean on our arrival. There was a problem with a hinge on a cabinet when we arrived, and I contacted the owner who had the problem fixed promptly and without inconvenience to us. The bed is comfortable, the bathroom is large, and the kitchen is well equipped. Having cable and wireless internet was an excellent convenience as well.

The location of this building is ideal as it is right on the beach with its own private beach access, a short walk to Waikiki but not right in the bustle downtown, and with easy access to any of the major roadways. My rotation was at Kuikini Medical Center which was an easy 20 minute commute by car. I enjoyed being located next to the Outrigger Canoe Club and the Elks lodge since there were a few nights that they had live music until about 10pm and my wife and I could enjoy it from the comforts of our own apartment.

In all we had a wonderful experience in Oahu and much of that is owed to our wonderful accommodation at Colony Surf. I would highly recommend this location and even more highly recommend this particular unit and owner.

WOW!! - Love it.

Well, - WOW Wow Wow is all we seem to keep saying whilst here. We are totally loving your apartment - everything about it is just perfect for us.

We cannot thank you enough for allowing us to holiday here - it is just wonderful and is a terrific finale to our awesome vacation.

View is amazing - to wake up to the majesty of Diamond Head so close it feels like we can touch it and still have the beauty of the ocean, palm trees and the beach in view, without even moving from our favorite 'viewing spot' in the apartment - made us feel very fortunate, relaxed and most appreciative of your wonderful unit. Everything about it is just perfect inside and out. We enjoy sunsets in the park so close by, love having the little beach at front just steps away and really like that it is so much quieter and less crowded than the Waikiki end - much less touristy...Yay!! Now, its breakfast time and the amazing view is calling me. Just love it we will certainly plan to return.

Beautiful View, Great Location

I was very surprised at the tremendous view from this property. I could check the tide from my armchair and watch surfers nearby. Palm trees swaying in the trade winds, and Diamond Head complete the picture. The location is perfect, only steps to Kaimana Beach, Kapiolani Park and a pleasant walk to Waikiki.

The unit is fully equipped with everything you could need for cooking, which is very convenient. Beach chairs, etc. are included. It is tastefully decorated and the full wall of windows takes great advantage of the magnificent Hawaiian landscape.

I would stay there again. Enjoy!

A Vacation To Remember

This is the first time we have ever used vrbo rather than stay at a hotel. I would recommend this property without hesitation. The condo was clean and lovely - a real home away from home. To wake up to that view every morning, to be able to have our meals looking out at that beautiful ocean - it was everything one wants when they visit Hawaii. The washer and dryer being in the unit is a must for us. Everything was in good working order, there were no problems from the beginning right to the finish of our vacation. The little beach out front was never busy, there is a bus stop steps away from the building, everything was convenient without the incessant noise of traffic that you get right in Waikiki. We would definitely stay at this condo again and hope to be able to in the near future.

A beautiful, gracious condo

Because we like to stay near the Kapiolani Park, we have been everywhere in Waikiki over the past 30 years. We found this unit to be especially beautiful, and very special. All possible amenities are available. The unit is in mint condition and the owner was helpful and very cordial in all communications. We’d surely like to return to this condo again in the future.
