About the property

House, 5 Bedrooms + 4 Baths (Sleeps 11)

Bright, clean & airy antique home with modern amenities.

Ideal vacation rental for large families seeking a relaxing retreat in an Old Cape setting. One adjacent property also available for a total of 8 bedrooms.

Situated on one of the highest points in Brewster, this antique Cape Cottage was originally built in 1740's as part of local farmstead which stretched out towards Sheep Pond.  Today, this classic Cape has been remodelled by a local interior designer with more than 3000 sqft of living space, a 1.5 acre sunny grass lawn and a secluded in-ground swimming pool.

The property is located next to the Cape Cod Rail Trail and less than 1 mile from Brewster's beautiful bayside beaches.

The current owners have carefully restored the original Cape cottage, its attached barn and the rambling additions which were added over the last 250 years.  The property comprises 5 bedrooms (including a Master suite with its own sitting room) and 4 bathrooms (including 3 en suite). The house also benefits from 4 gas fireplaces, in the kitchen, dining room, living room and master suite.

The heart of home is an extended farmhouse kitchen which boasts a lofted, beamed ceiling, original wide-planked floor, a gas fireplace and french doors leading to a 'secret' patio garden.  The kitchen is fully loaded with modern appliances, a large gas stove with a kitchen island, a comfortable sofa and seating for 6.

The adjoining dining room provides additional seating for another 6 people with another gas fireplace and views in the garden and side lawn.  Your family can also relax in the formal living room and stretch out on the comfortable chairs and sofas.  The living room is decorated with a flatscreen TV, antique art, a gas fireplace and french doors leading into the secret garden patio where you can enjoy sunny breakfasts or dinner off the grill.

* The house can comfortably sleep 10 Adults with an additional loft bed for 1-2 children.

* Private Master Suite with queen-sized bed, sitting room with TV & fireplace and en-suite bathroom (with shower and tub).

* 4 guest rooms (each with a queen bed), 3 with ensuite bathrooms including showers. Two bedrooms are connected and share a bathroom (perfect for parents with young children).

* The bedrooms are spread throughout the property and offer privacy to various members of the family. 3 of the bedrooms benefit from their own private entrance.

* The house benefits from a beautiful in-ground pool surrounded by a private fence and granite patio

* Relax next to the pool under large umbrellas and comfortable teak chaise lounges

* The secluded pool is shared by this property as well as the owners who live in the adjacent property or guests renting the adjacent property. There is no limitation as to when guests can use the pool but must be mindful that this is a shared space.

* This antique home is located approximately 1 mile from Brewster's beautiful, Bayside sandy beaches -- including Paine's Creek, Breakwater Beach, Crosby Landing and Robbin's Hill.

* Just up the road is Main Street (also known as the Old King's Highway in the National Register of Historic Places). The road winds its way through some of the oldest villages in America with many antique shops, restaurants and colonial homes.

* The house is also conveniently located next to the Cape Cod Rail Trail which stretches over 20 miles along the length of the Cape from Dennis up to Wellfleet. The bike path offers the genuine Cape Cod experience as it wanders through quaint villages, sandy beaches, pine forests, and cranberry bogs. In addition to cycling and in-line skating, the trail has a wide shoulder to accommodate horseback riding, walkers, and runners.

You can walk to lunch or dinner, or ride your bike to the beach at Sheep Pond for a swim. Walk up the path to the Stony Brook School in 15 minutes where you can cheer on the Brewster Whitecaps in the Cape Cod Baseball League. You can also reserve one of the new public tennis courts at the Stony Brook School.

The bike path provides easy access to several shops and restaurants within walking distance. Just up the road is a shop to rent bicycles and kayaks. Restaurants and a local fish market are also close by (including a french bakery, pizza / italian, mexican, a local fish market). Fresh produce and a butcher are with a 3-minute walk at Ferretti's Market . The Satucket Farm Stand and the Brewster General Store are both within a 2min drive.

* Our family has an additional rental property adjacent to this house with 3 additional bedrooms.

Guestbook comments from the owner

***** / 5-Stars

We had the pleasure of staying here the last week in July. The place was great and the perfect size. Our dog Lucy had a great time and our 7 month old loved being in the pool. It was the first time we had ever rented a place for a week and everything we needed was here. The location was great and very private.

We truly had a fantastic vacation and can’t wait to come back next year!

Our family had a wonderful time at this beautiful property. The kitchen was a complete hit. We made wonderful dinners every night. The kitchens were equipped for gourmet chefs and in a very classy manner. The bedrooms were very comfortable after a busy day at the beach, the sights on cape cod and a wonderful dinners. The pool was a wonderful reprieve and we really enjoyed the excellent location so close to the bike trails. The owners were a delight and the caretakers were real professionals - very responsive and caring. We would definitely go back there again and would recommend this property to anyone. We made wonderful memories that we will treasure for a very long time. Thank you!

Beautiful home!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this beautiful property this past July. We completely enjoyed our stay! The house was beautiful, pristinely clean, and a great location. The kitchen was amazing, it had everything you need, and is so pretty! We loved so much about the house, but in particular we loved the kitchen, and the secret garden patio which we had our morning coffee, and the pool was awesome to swim in after a day at the beach. The bedrooms were fun, as some you walked across the driveway to enter. Our kids are ages 9-14, and they thought it was fun to have their own space. The yard was so large, it is on a main street, but you don't feel like it is because there is plenty of privacy, and space. The bike trail is right outside the property which was wonderful for our rides. The house, as I mentioned, was so clean which is important to me. And, it had nice clean towels. The owners were easy to reach and answered any question quickly, They left us a welcome gift on the kitchen table and a super helpful guide to things to do in the area. They even brought us some fresh local oysters. Very nice! We had a lovely week at this charming home!

Simply Amazing...We love it here!!!

  • 5 of 5

Where to start, we have visited twice and now and intend and hope to visit annually. We are Cape lovers to begin with, but this house in Brewster is far more than a house. It is a quintessential Cape Cod experience. From the hosts, Sasha and John who are more than gracious and responsive to the wonderfully renovated bones of an amazing house. We have visited twice with 3-4 other couples/families and had the best time. The kitchen is amazing, we cook together, swim in the pool, and each have our own comfortable spaces/bedrooms. The amenities are wonderful, from the stove to the grill to the pool to the laundry, it is easily a home away from home. Each year we go back there are more upgrades and continued treats. Oh, and the surroundings are great too, from the Satucket fresh farm stand to Brewster General store, to the Cape league baseball field, all within walking distance, you cant go wrong. Cant recommend it enough!

A True Gem Perfect for Family Gatherings - Quintessential Cape!

  • 5 of 5

THANK YOU for sharing your exquisite property with our family. This is the perfect summer home for extended family gatherings and one of the best vacation properties we have rented. We would highly recommend this house to any family seeking a True Cape experience. The owner is an interior designer and her passion and skills are revealed in this showroom house -- loaded with family heirloom antiques and original artwork. There are very few vacation properties in this area which have this much historic character, tasteful design and comfort. The rambling antique property is divided into two main wings -- the original 1740 cottage with 2 bedrooms (including the master suite) and the barn extension with 3 additional bedrooms (2 bedrooms are connected which is perfect for young parents who want an attached kids room). This setup was perfect for our multi-generational family so the grandparents could enjoy some peace on one end with our little toddlers running around on the other end of the property. Each bedroom is decorated in a unique and special way. We felt like we were staying in our own private, antique B&B! We enjoyed gathering for family dinners in the farmhouse kitchen. The house has the best kitchen we have ever enjoyed in a vacation property - We love cooking and its clear the owners do as well given the huge professional oven, large kitchen island and the great array of Creuset pans and kitchen utensils. And after tucking the kids in at night, the grown-ups would enjoy a night-cap under the stars in the "Secret Garden." The Website listing does not do justice to the property's grounds. The in-ground pool is private and perfect for cooling off after a full day at the beach. There is also a sprawling 2 acre lawn -- our kids had plenty of room to run around and play soccer. We really enjoyed riding our bikes on the Cape Cod Rail Trail. There are also several family-friendly restaurants within walking distance. We also had fun going to Cape Baseball games which are just a short bike ride away. The owners are a delight -- very responsive and helpful. This amazing property represents everything that true Summer Cape vacations are all about -- we are definitely coming back and can't wait to return. Highly Recommended.

Things that I think are important to emphasize and/or note that were not clear by reading the description of this rental:

-This house is on a well-traveled road (i.e., state route)…meaning it is not quiet and often you can hear cars whizzing by (and honking their horns at times)

-There is no internal hallway that links the 3 bedrooms on the “rambling addition” of the house (which is separate from the main house). Therefore, if you want to travel from any one of these bedrooms to the main house (kitchen, etc.) you will have to walk outside, which is rather unpleasant if it the weather is foul

-Many of the rooms smelled bad. During our trip the rooms with the shared bathroom smelled awful (mildew?) and so did the dining room. At times the kitchen smelled of gas (by the way, with the commercial stove the pilots are always lit…so there is constant heat being generated)

-The AC unit in our bedroom was loud enough to wake the dead. It also didn’t dehumidify the room, so when we went to bed every night the sheets were physically damp….akin to going to bed wrapped with wet towels (speaking of which, the towels never dried after showering in the tiny, disjointed bathroom due to the constant humidity in the rooms).

-Our party of 9 adults and 2 kids struggled to find a place inside the main house to all sit together. The living room is very formal and does not have many chairs (not kid friendly). When our entire group was all inside the main house, we spent most of the time cramped around the kitchen table and on the couch in the kitchen with additional chairs from the dining room…yes, they have a couch in the kitchen (doesn’t everyone?). There are only two TVs in the rental…one in the kitchen and one in the master “suite,” so there was no general family room.

-We had to buy a number of common things like toilet paper and dishwasher soap…this is the first rental I’ve been to that I had to buy these things on our own for a mere one week stay.

-The pictures of the rental look much nicer than reality, if you were to ask our group. "Disjointed" is a good descriptor for the property.

Overall, I have rented through VBRO with success several times before, but this was the most disappointing and overpriced rental we have yet been. There are positives such as proximity to bike trail, (unheated) pool, large lawn, and patio but I believe that the negatives outweigh the positives. If we were to travel to the Cape again, we would not be renting this house again.

Owner's Response: We are saddened & surprised by this review. Other families staying at our property have been very happy and provided 5-Star reviews since we began hosting guests. One family who just left said our house was the best vacation property they've ever enjoyed; they are already booking their return next summer. We try our best to make all our guests happy but apparently Lincoln was right that you can't please all the people all the time. Our house was built starting in 1740 and it is older than the country in which it resides. It creaks, it rambles, it breathes & most guests embrace its antique features as part of its charm & character. We understand classic New England houses are not everyone's cup of tea. For future guests we thought it would be helpful to respond directly to some points below. Like all old houses in Brewster our home was built in the age of horses & carriages and the front section is closer to the road. High season traffic can be busy at times but guests still enjoy the house and most bedrooms are located away from the road. At night there is limited road noise as the traffic dies down. The private pool (often a major highlight in reviews) is also in the back of the property behind a solid fence. The pool can be heated upon request if any guests are uncomfortable. As many guests often enjoy the house is divided into 2 main sections and a few bedrooms have their own private entrances. Many extended families appreciate the privacy & uniqueness of this layout like a B&B. Summer provides many sunny days but rain is possible. We aim to provide the best setting we can but we unfortunately can’t control Mother Nature. The kitchen has a commercial stove and a nice sofa as described in our VRBO listing & appreciated in many reviews. Guests who enjoy cooking love the large social kitchen. We installed a permanent wall A/C unit & ceiling fan to keep the kitchen cooler. Our country didn't have central air-conditioning 250yrs ago so we use separate AC units in bedrooms. Most guests understand & sleep soundly. We appreciate there is no master TV room. Most come to the Cape to enjoy its natural beauty and outside family activities. If one wants to watch TV & play video games all week, we would recommend a different property. We enjoy meeting our guests and are always happy to help with special requests. Never hesitate to contact us if we can make your stay more enjoyable. We are proud that many families are now repeat guests who return every summer.

Perfect for a few small families and young kids

  • 5 of 5

What a great week we had in Brewster staying in this gorgeous home. The pool area was clean and large enough for adults and children to enjoy day or night, and pefect for families with little kids that nap so that the rest of the group can enjoy some swimming rather than having to go to a beach and leave midday. The beaches in Brewster were the hit attraction, especially at low tide when kids can walk the flats and experience all sorts of wildlife - crabs, clams, sea snails. Just a few hrs later they were all swimming in shallow calm water. Just a short 5 min drive back to the house or to any of the local restaurants for dinner. Having the bike path within 100 yds of the yard is also a great benefit. The trail gives children a safe path into town to eat or to a Whitecaps game, where there is a great playground adjacent to the ballfield. The kids got to meet the players, get autographs, and walk on the field postgame. The kitchen is truly restaurant quality and the outdoor grill is a great option for those that want to keep things simple. It does get a bit warm in the kitchen when cooking. Our focus was on the outdoors so the lack of a main living room with a TV was not a big deal. There is a small sitting area on each floor, but the TV is upstairs outside the master BR. We brought a small projector for the kids to watch a movie at night, using a white sheet hung on the mantle as the screen. They zoned out while the adults enjoyed a calm dinner, worked out pefectly. Not suprosingly, a rainy day will cause a hiccup in your plans since most everything to do in the Cape involes the outdoors, so bring some games or movies. The yard is huge and great for kids to play sports. The private pool and beach allow you to have whatever experience you want - simple beach/pool, or go out and about all over Brewster and the nearby other villages to golf, take boat rides, whale watches, fishing trips, etc. Local store is right on the trail entrance, larger supermarket is about 4 miles away in Harwich, so no issue stocking up. The owner is great to work with and you'll see when you walk in what a great job she did restoring this home/barn. There is an attached 2BR cottage with a separate entrance that is part of the main structure, but there is no access to the 5BR main house from the inside. Enjoy!
