Dream Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

The beach at Sapelo has ruined me for any other beach! I think about it and our amazing host, Mr. Gibb, every day. I'm trying to plan another trip now! The accommodations were amazing, and our host, from the moment I saw him, felt like a member of my family. I love me some Mr. Gibb!!

Most Unique Vacation Ever!

  • 5 of 5

This is review is long over due. My husband and I visited Sapelo knowing very little about the island itself. It was like going to another world! Our host Gibb was very friendly and outgoing. He gave us an unforgettable tour and shared story after story that we loved learning from. In fact we enjoyed them so much we bought his moms book called God, Dr.Buzzard and the Baloto Man which gave us the real story of the island. (can be bought at the visitors center on the main land)The cottage which is located in his backyard was homey and super clean- like a hotel with one room. It was nice to have Gibb nearby to help us know where to go and what to do. It is the best price on the island with the most knowledgable tour guide and far out in hog hammock so you have lots to drive through and see. The beaches were pristine and primitive. Gibb said the beach would be busy since we were going to the main beach on Labor Day- there were six people (the most we saw all week.) If you have a chance and the roads not flooded go to Caberetta Beach it was just us and a million Pelicans- like being on a deserted island with no one else in the world around. We had our food catered for dinner as there is no food on the island by miss Sharon (Gibb can get you her number) it was great homemade, home grown food and the best sweet potatoe pie I ever had! A couple notes BRING BUG SPRAY and always wear it, prepare for a nature camping atmosphere, ask lots of questions and get informed before you go, prepare to not hurry or rush anywhere, be ready for adventure none like you have ever had before!

WORTH THE WAIT!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have wanted to visit Sapelo for over 15 yrs and we finally made it happen!

We stayed for 10 days.

Owner and host, Gibb, is pleasant, polite, attentive to needs, and knowledgable about the island and its' history.

Gibb answered all of our pre-arrival questions in a timely manner. The cottage is exactly as pictured, if not better.

The cottage was immaculately clean upon our arrival.

He shared his fresh caught fish with us and his natural Sapelo Island Teas, which he is harvesting, processing, and packaging.

We rented bikes from Gibb and traveled the entire island.

Highlights: the solitude, the natural environment, the Birds!, The Sapelo Nature Trail, R J Reynolds Mansion, and the natural beauty.

One of our favorite spots was the dock at Moses Hammock. We would take a backpack of binoculars, bird book, bug spray!, and our lunch. Sat on the dock for hours watching eagles and osprey snatching fish from the river, a fisherman tending to his crab pots, and the incredible swift tide of 7 -8' coming in/out.

Sapelo Island is a gem for those that can appreciates its' history and natural beauty.

Incredible!

  • 5 of 5

Gibb Walker is the best host anyone could imagine! From the first time you spot him smiling broadly at the ferry to the tour he gives you of his community--you feel at home. Sapelo is a very special place, and this immaculate little cottage for two had everything we needed for our stay. We loved the nearly deserted pristine beach, the nature walk, the canopy of immense live oaks with their drapery of Spanish moss, and the conversations with several of Hog Hammock's residents. Then there were the nights. No streetlights, so we sat on our screened porch and listened to the sounds of birds and insects whirring away. I hadn't experienced such quiet and calm since I was a child. We slept like babies. Come to Sapelo and stay in this cottage. We will most definitely be back. Thank you, Mr. Walker, for an amazing experience.

Hidden Treasure

  • 5 of 5

I have been to the island before but our stay in this cottage was the difference. We had a great host family. The place was very clean and well maintained. We had all the comforts of home. The island is so rich in history. The people are friendly. I will book this place again in October.

Great Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a quiet, relaxing weekend getaway - and we found it here!

Mr. Walker is the perfect host and his cottage is the ideal home away from home. Small and well appointed with all the comforts at home.

The island itself is beautiful and worth taking the time and energy to explore. Wildlife, history and natural beauty surround you.

We highly (though reluctantly, because we want to preserve the quiet serenity of the island) recommend this lovely place and can't wait to return soon.
