It's a home, which might or might not be a good thing.
The first thing to know about this rental is it's a home, in a regular neighborhood that happens to be at The Cape, more than it is a fancy vacation house. It's got touches of the owner and family all over. A picky person could find a lot wrong here, but someone looking for a home-ish feel might love it.
It's easy to find off the main highway, and E. Harwich is a great mid-Cape location. We found ourselves at Martha's Vineyard one day and Provincetown the next. We also made it to several beaches without having to repeat.
The home is a split level with one full bathroom on each floor. There's no central air, so the occupants of each bedroom have to manage their own air conditioning. The kitchen is stocked with more than enough to serve a family of nine, which was our group size, but we had to go to Ocean State Job Lot to stock the home with enough hand and beach towels to complement the bath towels. On the bright side, we left them behind for the next family, and there are beach chairs and boogie boards to borrow in the garage.
The home is kid-friendly, with a crib and a Frozen-themed bedroom, with some toys and smaller furniture throughout. There's plenty of room for the family to spread out in the common areas, and you could probably sleep an extra few people for a day or two if you had to.
More pros: The big TV with Chromecast and Netflix were a nice touch. The home's acoustics were great if some in your group are sleeping while others are up late or early. Dishwasher is quiet. The back deck is great for eight to eat dinner on. The gas grill makes meal planning easy. We forgot about the outdoor shower.
Some cons: We had a septic backup during the Monday of our stay. The owner responded by text right away, sent a person out Tuesday, but it wasn't resolved until Wednesday, so there were a couple days where the lower floor smelled like a highway rest stop. Things happen, although hopefully not during your stay; I'd judge not on whether things go wrong, but how they're resolved.
The bedroom on the lower floor that isn't the Master was musty. The garage was full of clutter, which doesn't much matter because the end-of-cul-de-sac parking is enough.
We met the owner, and he was responsive, there at 9 on Saturday to cut the grass and oversee checkout, and I believe he's doing the best he can.
Overall, it's adequate and not unbearable. We had a great vacation and a lot of it took place in the home, but I'd look around before committing.
Thank you for your response. We are so pleased that you enjoyed the location of the house being so close to so many beaches, restaurants, shopping, P-town and the ferry. We're also glad you took advantage of some of the many beach accessories available at the property as well as appreciating the big screen Smart TV's with theater sound and streaming options. And yes...you are completely right this HOMEaway rental is indeed a HOME. We ourselves travel as a family every summer and stay at HOMEaways. We have never stayed at one we did not like. They have all met or exceeded our expectations. And we make sure that our place does the same! 9/9 of our past guests have rated us accordingly with exceptional ratings. I have stayed at 6 different outstanding, beachfront HOMEaways with pools and none of them provided additional beach towels. Bath towels were provided and we used them for both. At our property we provide newer (higher quality then ocean state job lot) towels (10 towels) and we also have a washer and dryer in the house. Unfortunately we cannot go over this because it requires an additional load of wash on the rental change-over day. There is not enough time between rentals. Yes, unfortunately a rare incident caused a toilet (in one of the 2 bathrooms) to leak from the base where it meets the floor. The moment we received notice of this we had the preferred rooter company booked 1st thing next morning. The only reason it took an additional day was because we also respected the wishes of our guests. Our guests requested the rooter co. come later...so it took an additional day. The company said an underground tree branch grew into the underground pipes. The branches were cut and the pipes repaired. No more leaks and no more musty smell in the downstairs bedroom. And to our last guests we did return your full deposit as a compensation despite your 1-hour late check out and excessive trash, empties left throughout the kitchen, fridge and living room. We do appreciate your feedback and agree if you are looking for something beyond a home, a place with additional luxuries such as garaged parking, additional linen services and no requirements to bag up your trash and recyclables then please keep looking. Otherwise the remainder of our past guests would agree this is the place for you!!
The house was very nice and accommodating. The location was close to major routes and beaches. We e!
We enjoyed our vacation!
A Great Week at the Cape
This was our first time renting a house for vacation as well as vacationing at the Cape. We have a fabulous time, this home was just perfect for us. It was 10 of us, the home was very clean and spacious with good size bedrooms and two very nice bathrooms. This home is conveniently located near a supermarket, shopping and beaches.
The owner was amazing, he was easily accessible and very thorough with explanations. He made this experience so pleasurable. We had 1 rainy day on our vacation and we enjoyed watching family movies on Netflix, what a plus that was.
We had no complaints, and are looking forward to renting again hopefully next year.
Amazing home and great attentive owner
We've rented down the cape for July 4th week for 15 years, this has been the best thus far!
So many toys for the kids, even 2 wiis.
So much room, great yard, everything you may Need for great day at the beach was available for us to borrow.
Super quiet dead end St, which provided for very relaxful afternoon after big day at river beach.
There's nothing for me to complain. If, one wish would be couple of tv channels for kids, but we were so busy there was barely any time to be spent watching any tv!
Very happy and looking forward to rent again next year!
Great week in Cape Cod
We rented this home for a week's vacation with another family. In total there were 8 of us and we found the home to have lots of space for everyone to be more than comfortable. The home was very clean and well equipped, and very well located for our needs. We would definitely rent this home again on our next trip to Cape Cod!
We appreciate your taking the time to write a review! We take pride in keeping the property clean and comfortable. Thanks again for booking with us and happy travels in 2017!!
A great vacation home
The property is located at the end of street, so traffic was not an issue. The home is located very conveniently to grocery, shopping and beaches. It is very clean and spacious with good size bedrooms and two very nice bathrooms. The kitchen is fully stocked with adequate utensils and dishes, pots pans and glassware. Bring your own spices. The deck has a large table and umbrella, and the outdoor shower is great. The only drawback was the fact that only basic cable is hooked up, although they do have netflex The tv remotes do require getting used to, but the owner was very helpful in explaining each ones functionality. We all agreed that we would definitely rent this property again.
We appreciate your taking the time to write a review! We take pride in keeping the property clean and comfortable. The property is equipped with cable -though its the basic subscription. However, 3 of the HDTV flatscreen tv's in the house are equipped with HDMI chords. Attach the HDMI to your laptop computer and stream most of anything you would normally watch at home. You will be prompted by the website (I.E. ESPN to sign in with your sign in credentials from your at home cable company and then viola ...you are are watching the live baseball game ...etc..
And all 3 tv's are hooked up to netflix
If you get locked out just text the owner for the sign in credentials.
Thanks again for booking with us and happy travels in 2017!!
