About mamie spiegel
My husband and I are both artists. I work in a clay studio nearby, he works here in the studio. We have been spending the winter months in SMA for 18 years. In the summer months, we live in Woodstock, NY. My daughter, her Mexican husband, and my two grandchildren live in SMA. My husband loves to fix up houses. He has put in purified water, renovated the bathrooms, and so much else to make the house a comfortable, happy place.
Why mamie spiegel chose Zona Centro
The view, which is incredible, and the fact that it's perfect for two older people, because all the action is on one floor. No stairs to deal with. And it's beautiful. Plus the location, because getting to Centro is an easy, downhill walk, and it's easy to get a taxi home, and there's a bus route too. I do not recommend our house to people coming with very young children who can't swim, because the hot tub does not have a fence around it. Also there are stairs to deal with.
What makes this House unique
The generous hot tub, lots of fun to use. A big garden.

the best veranda in san miguel
We come to work, and Mamie's house couldn't be better for that. It's large, open to the air with great views, and pleasantly uncluttered. Marta, who cleans twice a week, is charming and warm-hearted and slows down her spanish so it can be understood. There was a small mosquito problem, but it was eventually solved with an electronic version of Raid! We maybe could have used another comfortable arm chair for TV. I want a small store to open up nearby. But after staying in many houses in San Miguel this remains my favorite. I didn't mention the hot tub in the garden. Want to keep that for myself when I return!
Overall we had an amazing time and the place was just as described - clean, smooth check in process and although walking up the hill could be brutal after a night out the gorgeous view of the city from the deck was well worth it :)
Thanks, Alexandra, for your nice review! Happy you enjoyed it.
Beautiful views and sunsets from the patio.
Mexican ambiance to the core! Spacious home with several "sitting areas" outside and inside for conversations to ensue.
Large outdoor patio is the place to sit in the evening hours. Maid (with clothes washing twice in a week), pool and outdoor cleaning services included to assure things remains clean during your stay. Taxi service useful for getting back up the hill, and they drop you off at the front door, Plenty of restaurants/bars to choose from with most having an interesting choice of items that are tasty. The locals are helpful and patient in assisting you. Enjoyed many of the server's in the restaurants. All in all, a good relaxing week in Mexico staying in a home that accomodates that relaxfulness!
Great house and stay!
What a perfect place to stay in SMA....very comfortable and well laid out. Loved all of the art work! Great kitchen and set up. This would be a great place for multiple couples or a small group. There is a main bedroom upstairs in the main part of the house and two bedrooms with en-suites on a level below that. You would have your privacy but still have common areas to get together in, like the large dining table and front room.
We had rented a car and were so happy to have a garage for the car. We only used it to travel out of town and used cabs the rest of the time. It’s quite a hike into the Centro area. If you have any physical problems like bad knees or hips, this town will take a toll! Use taxis or Uber.
Marta, the housekeeper, was wonderful and unobtrusive. House was sparkling clean and she also did our laundry! Overall, just can’t say enough good things about this place. It felt like our home. The patio was just the best place to be, whether it was early in the morning or late at night. Amazing views of the city with church bells in the background...thank you for sharing your home with us!
P.S....if you love art and beauty, don’t miss a visit to The Chapel of Jimmy Ray. It was our favorite part of the trip. The owners/artists were as wonderful as all of the art and the grounds. A place of love and joy....also fell in love with Inside Cafe...best food we had in SMA and the owners are a delight! If the Latte de Olla is on the menu, get it! Dark magic....
Thanks, Rick, for your nice review. Anado is an old friend of ours, so I will send him your review of his wonderful place. And thanks for your recommendation of Inside Cafe. We will try it!
Best - Mamie
Amazing home, amazing city
The property was wonderful. The views were breathtaking and the home was clean, spacious, and accommodating to our family of five. We found the welcome guide that was provided very helpful. We found some great suggestions on how to spend our time, where to shop, and where to eat. These things are not hard to find because there is a great abundance in San Miguel but it was nice to have some suggestions. Our favorite breakfast spot was Cumpanio and we loved La Parada for lunch ( try the Pisco punch and the chicken sandwich- El Quiquiriquí). The home is close to Centro so there are many things to enjoy! What we enjoyed the most was sitting out on the deck early in the morning with coffee and in the evening with wine taking in the city. Amazing!
Marta was wonderful and so kind and helpful.
This was our first experience in San Miguel and it was a great one and we hope to return soon!
Thanks so muck, Riema. I'm glad you enjoyed our house and San Miguel, and hope you come back!
Casa Gloria--Awesome Views!
We loved “Casa Gloria.” The house was perfect for our family of 5, it’s spacy, comfy and has great amenities. In our opinion, it has the best view of San Miguel, the view of sunrise and sunset are amazing. We were lucky to attend Sunday mass at lovely church located few steps down the “callejon.” If you want to eat like a local we recommend “Carnitas el Guero” on left side of carretera a Queretaro road. We stock up with salsas, beans and tortillas there—yummy! Word of caution, we did see local police ticketing (removing license plates) of cars parked along “callejon” (dead end street). There is an inexpensive public garage located on major road (salida a Queretaro) just couple minutes away. We’re looking forward to our next visit to SMA and stay at Casa Gloria.
