A centrally-located corner building has terrific views on 3 sides. Take a virtual tour, copy this address into your url bar: http://bit.ly/12SEBuF. Close to everything Springfield has to offer and within strolling distance to all the cool activities and offerings of the popular C-Street Historic District, our bright and colorful loft sleeps up to 10 family members or friends for short term stays. Perfect for mid-size groups or three couples, it has a large common kitchen/dining area, 3 bedrooms, 2 living areas and 1 1/2 baths. A skylight brightens the kitchen area and windows on 3 sides of this corner building fill it with light all year round. A keypad entrance accesses stairs to the loft from street level, a stairwell lit by the most amazing copper sculpture light fixture designed to fit the space. The kitchen/dining/party area is to the right at the top of the stairs with all the living/sleeping space to the left...an arrangement that accommodates both night owls who enjoy late-night visiting, card playing or dining and early risers who like to start their beauty sleep early.
There are two separate living areas, each with a Direct TV flat screen, a day bed and couch that makes into a bed. Three bedrooms with double beds round out the sleeping amenities. Lavatory facilities include a full bath with tub/shower and a half bath with laundry room which is in one of the bedrooms that has a murphy bed which can be folded into the wall during the day.
Our Firehouse Loft can be rented in conjunction with our Historic Firehouse just across the street, an amazing turn-of-the-century event venue where weddings occur every weekend from May through November. You'll be sure to see a bridal party or two when you choose our Firehouse Loft for your visit. It's actually one of the best forms of entertainment as you can see the beautiful and lush Courtyard Garden of our Historic Firehouse from your front windows.
As a matter of fact, if you'd like to schedule a picnic in our courtyard across the street, it can be arranged. Pizza House, our 53-year old local artisan pizzeria only delivers on historic C-Street!
I purchased this building and moved my Graphic Design and Photography business downstairs in 1980. I renovated the second floor, where the loft is today in 1985 and moved my business upstairs and moved myself into what is today the kitchen/dining area. When Paul and I got married in 1990, I moved my studio across the street into the Historic Firehouse and began renting out the loft on an annual basis. Just this year, we decided to rework it, furnish it and provide it to all the wedding parties that bring in so many folks from out of town. It has become increasingly popular for weekend rentals for the brides of Historic Firehouse #2.
Mary Collette purchased this apartment in 1980
I have always been interested in historic restoration. Our business name is Collette Parker Restoration; Paul & I own several historic properties in the Commercial Street Historic District which we continue to work on. As anyone who owns one of these knows, they're never really done but always 'a work in progress!' We are also avid recyclers and there is no form of recycling like restoring one of these fabulous buildings and adding another 150 years to its lifespan. Also, the people in this neighborhood are just as committed as Paul and I to building something beautiful in our wonderful little neighborhood!
Location, location, location! My corner location at Boonville & Commercial Streets is close to everything Historic Downtown Springfield has to offer. You can see Assemblies of God Headquarters and Cox North Hospital from the back windows and Drury University is about 5 blocks away. City and County offices and courthouse are just down Boonville a few more blocks and a few more get you to Park Central Square!
And for sheer livability, I think the light from windows on 3 sides and bright, fun colors make this loft so special. When I lived up here years ago, I would often just watch the sun set by erasing individual blind slats that were shadows on the wall. The color changes in the loft as the seasons change. Also, this area is just so unique and so walkable. There are so many special people and places within just a couple of blocks...you'll have to see for yourself!
The loft is bigger than "loft" sounds...note the square footage. The living quarters were spacious and pleasant. The kitchen packed with enough utensils, cleaning supplies, etc., to keep our busy schedule rolling. The loft was incredibly practical, which is what I was looking for in a place to stay, but the nostalgic design was a lot of fun.
I cannot say enough about how nice the Firehouse Loft was for my stay in Springfield. We stayed for a week during a national debate tournament at Drury College. Collette was extremely hospitable and available, but unobtrusive and kept us comfortably to ourselves. I ran a small event of about 20 students and rented two rooms at a local hotel to accommodate us. Honestly, I could have utilized the Firehouse Loft, being that we were a cozy, hard-working group.
If I'm ever in Springfield again, I'll definitely want to stay at the Firehouse Loft.
My husband, daughter, infant grandson and I rented the Firehouse Loft for two nights and absolutely LOVED all the space that we had! We were looking for something that would give our grandson enough room to crawl around and play (as opposed to the cramped quarters of a hotel room) and Mary's place was just right! There was plenty of room for each of us to have our own room, and the half-bath in one of the bedrooms helped with the "getting ready" time in the mornings.
The kitchen is huge and set apart from the main living area, so if one of us were in the kitchen at night, it didn't disturb anyone else. Mary was SO accomodating and had samples of pastries from some of the local shops on Commercial Street on the table as a welcome for us - what a treat!! She really went all-out in making us feel right at home in their space.
The main bathroom is such a delight; it has the charm of the old building with modern amenities and a great counterspace to accomodate all of our "stuff".
The laundry area was such a great "plus" as we were able to bring home clean clothes in our suitcases.
We walked Commercial Street to check out some of the unique shops/eateries along it, and would highly recommend the pumpkin moon pies available just down the street. We also had pizza delivered to the Loft on the first night we were there - Mary recommended the place and it was fabulous!!
All in all, we had a wonderful weekend and thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Loft ... check it out!
We chose the Firehouse loft for our family vacation after looking into several Springfield hotels. I was traveling with my 2 youngest kids plus my older daughter and her 6 week old baby and the thought of pacing the floor of a hotel room with a crying baby didn't appeal.
Great choice! The space is much larger than pictures show.. it is on an interesting street near some great places to eat and shop, but mainly what we loved about it was that it was different!
The kitchen was HUGE, we ate in often since we were traveling with kids and there were some places to get groceries nearby, not within walking distance, but we had rented a car.
My oldest daughter lives in Springfield and we were visiting for a wedding. She gave me the main streets to get around on, and from there we found lots of fun things to do.
There was enough room for twice as many guests. plenty of bed space, very clean, washer and dryer got used upon arrival, as the baby had issues on the flight! Plenty of closet space and drawer space for an extended visit. The loft bathroom is good for a group, with the long counter where we each had our space.
As the pictures show, the loft is very cute! Fun decor and my 8 yr. old son used the long hallway to practice walking on his hands as he's in gymnastics... again, we didn't feel bad about disturbing our neighbors below.
Mary told us some fun places to see in the area..she is so nice and gave us plenty of coffee from the adorable bakery down the street, Sisters in Thyme.. which became a favorite hangout for me and the kids. We purchased some extra Firehouse Blend coffee to take home with us! It is fantastic as is the baked potato soup!
We visited Nathaniel Greene Park and Botanical Gardens for our morning explore and exercise twice as it was an easy 15 minute drive off the expressway...
We hit as many antique and thrift shops as possible, since we aren't from the Midwest, this was a big treat! We had tea at Relic's off Battlefield Road.
My son wanted a trip to the Bass Pro Shop, we did the lunch buffet there, very good and reasonable price. We all thought the Farmer's Gastro Pub in the downtown was fantastic as was the Pizza place which delivers right to the loft. We ate very well, can you tell?
Back to the loft, good lighting, VERY quiet at night, minus the emergency vehicles occasionally because there is a fire station nearby.
We all agreed we loved the space!
We came into town for my sons wedding at the Savoy. The Firehouse Loft was an excellent place for our family consisting of our Son who was getting married, his close friend who was coming in from out of town also, his older brother and wife and two children, his sister and husband and two children, myself and his dad. We used the huge kitchen space for wedding decor planning on Thursday evening and then was able to carry them to the Savoy instead of having to haul them and worry about damage. We had plenty of space and the kids were able to be a whole part of the wedding and decorating with being so close. Mary was great to work with and had such a pleasant personality.
