Why Belize Sotheby's Int'l Realty Reservations chose Ambergris Caye

We chose to buy this vacation home because of the unlimited access to Ambergris Caye's best activities. The coral reef is just outside the front door, and the Bacalar Chico Marine Reserve is a short boat ride away.

What makes this villa unique

Snorkeling and diving is available right outside the front door. Fishing is just a quick boat ride away. Your days will be filled with outdoor fun and your nights with blissful quiet.

Great week at Casa Grande

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a fantastic week at Casa Grande. There were four couples and we each had a suite to ourselves. The house and grounds are well kept. Francisco is up early every day raking the grounds. Sergio took us wherever we wanted to go on the boat, San Pedro is just 20 minutes away. Resorts are in walking distance down the beach in either direction. And Zuli is a wonderful cook, providing us with wonderful meals. We will definitely be back.

Incredible Vacation- great experience over New Years

  • 5 of 5

We traveled as two families- 4 adults and 5 kids ages 5-12. The house is pretty far North of San Pedro (10 miles). We rented two golf carts and made the trip South at least every other day. It is not a bad trip, approximately 45-50 minutes, but roads are pretty poor. If you want to be in the middle of everything, this isn't the place for you. Having said that, there are several resorts in the general area and lots to see. There are several restaurants/bars within a few miles in either direction. The house itself is very nice, very spacious, and couldn't have had better breezes and views. The rooms are disconnected from the main living area which may be problematic for families with small children, but worked just fine for our group. The property is gorgeous and you could easily just relax in a hammock or swim all day. We went the opposite direction and had adventures planned almost every day. In hindsight, our only real regret was not allocating more time to let the caretakers, the real gems of this entire vacation, Sanwell (Cruz) and Edgar, act as our local guides. They had suggestions every day and evening, and readily offered to take us places and show us things we would never have found on our own. Having local knowledge is irreplaceable, and the owners/managers of this property should definitely pay more attention to the benefits that these guys offer. They were incredibly helpful, always smiling, and very eager to help. Great dudes. They cut down coconuts daily for the kids, harvested lobster and fish for dinner, which they then cooked, and organized beach activities. All in all, we would highly recommend Casa Grande. It is a great home, in a great location, in an even better country. Have fun!

Great diving, less great beach

  • 3 of 5

We stayed August 2015 for 10 days (9 of us, two families). When we arrived the seaweed had not been cleaned up and had turned the waterfront/beach into a sewer. The air even inside the house was virtually unbreathable. Management responded and had it cleaned up, although it took a few days (luckily we were away diving most of the days) and had to be cleaned until we left. The staff from the management company were very nice about it all, even working in the heat! We had a few boat problems, but generally managed. The cook was sweet and at our request cooked lots of local stuff.

The manager Roy had a tendency to disappear and often acted exceedingly strange. IMHO not the right guy for the job, hopefully his employment has been terminated...

Owner's Response: Most of 2015 was an unusual time because of the volume of sargassum seagrass that was inundating the beaches on Ambergris Caye Island and most of the Caribbean. In the summer, the volume of grass was impossible to be removed without multiple workers. Fortunately this problem has resolved and the grass is no longer covering the beaches on Amergris Caye Island. Secondly, because of a change in water current much of the seaweed off of the shore has washed away leaving the water and beach in great shape. In fact, I would estimate that the beach has added 20 to 30 feet of new sand and ours is one of the best beaches on the island. The house is under new management as shown on this site and we have a new caretaker. This house was off the market since August 2015 so we could make substantial improvements and continue having a house with a special experience for guests. The house is air conditioned and substantial improvements have been made and are being made with a completion date of October 1, 2016. The interior of the house (all rooms) have been repainted. New fans installed in the dining, living area and in the Bodega, and we have installed new blinds in the living, dining room and the kitchen. The kitchen has a new countertop and the Bodega is being totally renovated. The upstairs bedroom is getting a king size bed and the bedroom downstairs is getting a queen size bed, eliminating the squeaky bed. The house has three T.V.’s, one in the main living area and one in each master bedroom. The new road that runs in back of the house is in great shape so that a taxi cab can be driven from San Pedro to the house. See updated pictures below.

Sun seeker

The house is in fair repair. The ceiling fan in our room did not function. The bed was really hard and creaked loudly with every movement. It was bad enough that I began sleeping on the single bed in the room so my wife and I could sleep. The grounds were well kept but the beach was a mess with really smelly rotting seaweed for the entire length of the property. This would be a lot to clean up but well worth it by the looks of the proprties that have done so. Thank goodness there is a dock and a boat to get out to the good water by the reef. One stand up paddle board no longer had a fin on the bottom and 1 of the tandem kayaks did not have seat cushions or a back rest. The fuel in Belize is expensive so plan to add an extra $500 or so for boat fuel for the week if you are planning to do a lot of trips to snorkel or go to town. The staff are pleasant and professional. Sarge was an awesome guide for the snorkel trips and is HIGHLY recommended. The snorkeling was amazing. Mexico Rocks and Shark/Ray alley should be on your list. Zuly is an amazing cook. I would recommend that you get a grocery list from Zuly on what she needs. It will be worth it!! If fishing is your thing I would suggest getting a guide outfit in town as the boat was too small for our party to get to the better areas.

Overall we had a great trip and hope to return to Belize for more great snorkeling.

Hidden Gem

  • 5 of 5

Casa Grande is a perfect place to spend time. It is very comfortable with just enough privacy. Neff and Sergio make it a very easy place to stay and are more than willing to take you to all the cool places to see. If they don't know where it is they know some one who can get you there and Zuli will make sure you don't ever feel hungry. I highly recommend to stay at this property.

Family and Friends Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Six of us adults stayed at this wonderful house for a week. Due to the availability of a boat, boat captain and Kayaks we were able to fish, snorkle, go into town and do just about any activity we wanted. Snorkling at Shark Ray alley was just one of the highlights of our trip and is not to be missed. We were provided three wonderful meals per day much better than you will get in resturants. The entire staff was friendly and went out of their way to accomodate our needs. We will be staying here again in the near future.
