About Joan White
Joan and William White are a retired couple who after a failed attempt at a leisure retirement in Florida returned home and built the retirement home on a lot Joan had had for years. Inadvertently, it turned out to be a hotel rather than a home. Although it is perfectly appointed for owners that intended to stay there, they found it was just to big and moved to a condo. They started out petite hotel as a hobby but it is quickly turning into a full time job. It has gained and gained in popularity. Joan and Bill enjoy fussing over the place and their guest. It is a symbiotic relationship for sure.
Joan White purchased this Studio in 2007
Why Joan White chose Roxborough
As previously mentioned, Joan had owned this property for about 15 years and had always had the idea to build on it. Manayunk is such a great neighorhood with it wonderful Main Street and open air restaurants and clubs and other wonderful shopping. it is well located, close to center city and close to the Main Line, Chestnut Hill and the Schyukl Expressway.
What makes this Studio unique
Iit is rare to have a nice city chic spot. Many of guests come to visit their relatives, but end up having their relatives visit them at their suite instead. It wonderfully furnished room and very roomy about 500 square ft. It is just so cool, that their friend have and family have said to them 'HOW DID YOU FIND THIS.'

So happy we stayed here !
My husband and I took a quick trip to Philadelphia for a few days. The studio apt/room was exactly as it appears in the photos. Joan is wonderful! We felt very safe. Everyone was very friendly and it was easy to get around. We would recommend it!
clean and comfortable
Joan was very nice and easy to work with. Good location. I would stay here again.
Lovely home away from home
Lovely spot for a couple restful days in Philadelphia. Transportation is near by and Manayunk with all its shops and restaurants a short walk. I highly recommend!
Perfect location for bikers
We came to Philadelphia with our bikes and the Manayunk Terrace was a perfect location for us. The apartment is just a few streets up from the Schuylkill River Trail - which runs 13 kms to downtown and 30 kms in the other direction to Valley Forge. We found Manayunk to be interesting, friendly and safe. There's a great neighbourhood pub just kitty corner called the Eagle Tavern. There are not full kitchen facilities in the studio apartment but we managed to create light meals (thanks to Joan for the skillet) for three nights and ate out for two others. Yes, parking seemed to be a bit scarce but since we only used our bikes it was not an issue. Overall, a five star stay due to location, the state of the accommodation and value.
Thank You so much, Kathy.
That was so nice of you to take the time.
You are an inspirational couple, for sure.
Philly's Best Kept Secret
That awkward moment you walk into the rental and it's BETTER than your home. I was there for the Made In America festival and honestly I wouldn't have minded lounging the day away in the very comfy upstairs living room. The pictures don't include this living space, but if you rent both upstairs room you have at your disposal a huge living space with a nice big couch and a comfortable sitting area near the FIREPLACE. Joan is very accommodating and has created a very lovely home.
THANK YOU SO MUCH, LAUREN, FOR TAKING THE TIME TO WRITE ABOUT MANAYUNK TERRACE. WE APPRECIATED HAVING YOU. YOU ARE A LOVELY GUEST. I AM SO GLAD YOU WERE SO COMFORTABLE.
THAT'S WHAT WE AIM FOR.
My husband, 7-year-old daughter and I really enjoyed our 3 nights at this beautifully appointed place. We stayed in the spacious studio suite on the first floor and we were very impressed with the quality of the furnishings and the overall comfort of the place. The tiny kitchenette has everything you need to put together a light meal--and breakfast foods like butter, peanut butter, jam and Englsh muffins were provided. We didn't totally know what to expect, especially since there don't seem to be many reviews, but we would recommend this place highly to anyone. We were able to take a peek at the larger suite upstairs and it was gorgeous! Manayunk is an interesting little town-within-a-town--though actually part of Philadelphia, it has the feel of a small river-side village from 100 years ago. Lots of cobblestones and quaint row homes. We walked around at all hours and felt perfectly safe. Tons of restaurants. We took the train (station is about a 10 min walk) into downtown Philly, and that only took about 25 minutes. The family pass for the train let us also ride the buses and subways downtown, which was very helpful. We were in town so my husband could play a tennis tournament in Germantown, so the location was terrific for us. Joan, the owner, is very friendly and made sure we were comfortable. A great place to stay in a nifty little Philly neighborhood.
OH, LEECIA, YOU ARE JUST SO NICE. THE FEELINGS ARE MUTUAL.
THANKS FOR STAYING WITH US AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO HAVING YOU HERE AGAIN. YOU ARE AN ADORABLE FAMILY.
