Stunning Lake Arenal and volcano view from our spacious balcony!!

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,500 sq ft
Property type townhome
Minimum Stay 1 - 4 nights

About the property

Condo, Modern Kitchen, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 5-6)

Well maintained condo with a large modern kichen, 3 bedrooms, 3 full baths and excellent security. The kitchen is well equipped including a dishwasher while spacious enough to allow for 2 or 3 people working at once. Open concept living room/kitchen/eating area which connects with our new two story deck, allows everyone to enjoy the view and the breezes.

Many places in the area claim to provide a lot of services but fail to deliver, if we list it, we provide it. A little over an hour from an International airport, Arenal volcano, Monte Verde and just under 2 hours from world class beaches.

Surrounded by National Parks, we get to enjoy birds sometimes by the hundreds. Toucans, parrots and others grace us with their presence.

Close enough to walk to a Tronodora for groceries or a quick beer. We have the advantage of a nearby bus stop for those without a vehicle. Secured covered parking for those with a vehicle, tenants have a choice of driving eight miles to Tilaran which boasts multiple supermarkets, produce shops, butcher shops, drugstores, hardware stores, English speaking private dentists and doctors.

The view is constantly changing and too beautiful for words.

In 2015 we added a large deck off the main room, removed the half wall off the kitchen and moved the dining table. For those of you that have stayed with us before, you'll be amazed at how much bigger the living space feels now, for all of our new guests, wait unil you see the view!

For those of you who bring your work with you, we provide a desk close to the router and wifi for a fast connections. The best part is just looking out at the view while you work from the desk or the adjoining deck.

In 2018 we added covered parking within our secure area to shield vehicles and visitors from the elements.

Keywords: An easy commute from the airport at Liberia, only 8 miles from Tilaran on a hillside overlooking Lake Arenal with Volcan Tenorio centered above the lake. The town of Tronodora is within easy walking distance and a bus stop within sight of the front door makes this the perfect place for tenants with or without their own transportation.

Master bedroom has a king sized bed, 2nd bedroom has a queen and the 3rd bedroom has a queen with an air mattress if necessary. All 3 bathrooms have a shower, but there is also a large bathtub in the master bath.

About Coryn Wallen

Texas natives with a love of travel, we fell in love with this place and look forward to spending our vacation there every year. A trip means long relaxing soaks in volcanic pools, friendly neighbors, hiking and scuba diving at the coast.

My husband and I have taken our 3 grown children with us on a holiday trip and had the greatest Thanksgiving there. A fully modern kitchen with all the toys makes meal prep easy rather than a constant challenge.

Coryn Wallen purchased this townhome in 2010

Why Coryn Wallen chose Cantón Tilarán

We choose this location due to the easy drive from the airport, the incredible views and the lower number of tourists. We find that prices are much more reasonable for groceries and we have a choice of several large stores including one within walking distance.

What makes this townhome unique

At least once every visit, we go to the volcanic hot pools, an overnight stay at the beach and we try to include as many side trips to National Parks as possible. Unlike many other locations in the country, many of the best parks are a short day trip away.

For us, the best times are simply sitting with a cup of coffee and a birding guide and just enjoying the view.

This condo not only easily sleeps 6-8 people, but boasts a large modern kitchen that is fully equipped. Large floor to ceiling windows offer a view that's perfect for birders, as dozens of species have been spotted outside in the trees. We leave identification cards and guidebooks to enhance your enjoyment. The area has companies that offer water sports and horse back riding. Arenal is the site for the world windsurfing championships. There are two major waterfall sites within 45 minutes of the condo, both are highly recommended. We are within 2km of the turnoff for the public boat docks and about 40 minutes away from the public park at Nuevo Arenal. If you can't decide between activities at Arenal volcano, Monteverde, Lake Arenal or the Pacific beaches, then this is the location for you. What we offer that is unique is a gorgeous view, access to a typical Costa Rican town (Tronadora), easy bus access and short drive times to some of Costa Ricas favorite tourist areas.

Relaxing stay with a stunning view!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time as a family of 5, 3 kids 9-7 & 5! The condo is very big and the kitchen is more than fully equipped! We took advantage of the large deck to do yoga and meditate! Our stay was a great treat! Thank you!

Owner's Response: I’m so happy that you and your family had a great time. We planned the interior with our own large family in mind so hopely there was plenty of seating and beds. As you can propably tell, I cook, since you apparently do too, I’d appreciate any feedback regarding the kitchen. Thanks for staying with us and if you happen this way again, consider us for future stays.

It only gets better!

  • 5 of 5

This is our fourth stay at the condo and the experience only gets better! Every time we visit there are added amenities...more lighting in the downstairs bathroom, vibrant green paint on the walls outside, lights added above the outdoor balcony and on the grate in front of the balcony and consolidated Costa Rican art work in the downstairs bedroom.

This condo is truly a dream. It has everything that one would want in a place to call home for how ever long you will be staying!

A feature that we enjoy is that it is away from the tourist spots that can be found in Costa Rica. This is not to say that finding points of interest such as Monteverde, Volcan Arenal, and the beaches near Liberia are not convenient, but this area lets you interact with the local people. It is a haven that we so enjoy. It is a pleasure to sit on the balcony and watch the toucans and parakeets fly by and watch the large iguana and armadillo below.

We are hoping to return for another visit next year. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful home!!!

Finally, we would be remiss if we did not thank Coryn for her help and hospitality. She is such a pleasure to work with;)

Owner's Response: Every year I look forward to having you two at our home. I know you’ve watched me make changes throughout the years and I’ve read your reviews so I could aee the changes through your eyes. Thank you for being the ultimate guests and sounding boards. You’re right about us not being in a tourist spot, it’s why we focused on Tronadora rather than other areas around the lake. Monteverde is close enough for a day trip (depending on the roads) as is Nuevo Arenal or La Fortuna, only an hour or so away is the Rio Celeste which is an incredible miracle of nature. Very few areas offer the same ease of access to so many natural wonders but are situated soi that you live in an unspoiled area alongside Ticos. To me, they are the greatest unspoiled miracle. Thank you again for sharing our home with us, Hugs!!

Good home base

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for 5 nights in the condo and chose it as it was centrally located to the areas we wanted to visit such as Arenal and Monteverde. For this, it served it's purpose very well as a home base. However, there is just a large covered deck, not a yard or anything to sit and relax in if you wanted to hang out for a day for some sun, etc. We did pull some chairs out onto the driveway one afternoon but this wasn't really ideal. The condo is spacious and well-equipped, but honestly only surface-clean; it really needs a deep clean. I know it is what it is, but there were many ?sugar ants/bugs in the kitchen - in the spice cupboard and on the counter, so we had to keep all our opened food in the fridge. The master bath lighting is really awful, even with the strip light around the mirror. One of the side lamps in the master was broken and blinds didn't shut all the way. We wanted to use the outdoor grill on the deck but the cord was missing. Otherwise amenities such as kitchen gadgets and towels were plentiful. Wifi worked well and the house was well-secured. The area is *extremely* windy, but not sure if this is just the season. Supermarket close by with very friendly locals. All in all a good home base but not really the place to hang out and explore other than by car.

Owner's Response: Hi there, I wish all stays were perfect. For discovering the area, as you noted we are in a great location as a home base to explore. We do recommend that our clients either rent a vehicle or become familiar with Costa Rica's reliable bus service, which has a stop just steps away from the front door. We have the added bonus of being close enough to Tronadora for our tenants to walk to local eateries, a bakery, a butcher and an Americanized grocery. Since you stayed during our windiest season, I'm sure that the wind was very noticeable. The Windsurfing competitions that are held on the lake, occur during that time frame and should have been visible from the deck Since we get nearly 80 inches of rain on our side of the lake, we choose to cover the deck, but it is translucent and allows most of the sun light through. However as you observed, the deck is not meant for sun bathing as it is on the North facing or shadiest side of the condo. I checked on why the level of cleanliness wasn't up to our usual standards only to find out that our regular housekeeper was not available for your stay. I apologize for any issues this might have caused. We will be working on the master bathroom lighting, it has been a continual issue for us as well. Our solution should be in place for future stays. We take our clients concerns seriously and plan to address each one. Thank you for staying with us and taking the time to write a review.

Beautiful location! A perfect getaway.

This was a great place for our family of 6. We enjoyed the location for a day trip to La Fortuna and another to Monteverde. The place is clean and comfortable. Coryn was great to work with- very accommodating and helpful. We loved our stay!

Owner's Response: I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Sounds like you did the same type of trips that we do with our family. As a past reviewer noted, it’s a great jumping off point for northern Costa Rica. Coryn is the best property manager around and we feel lucky to have her representating us and our property. Thanks for being such great guests.

Close enough to the town of Tronadora to walk. A good sized and well stocked store is located just off the main road, a pizzaria, butcher shop, bar and greenhouses are along the way. Ask our property manager for details!!

Although you have 1.75 hour drive to the beaches, they are world class ones with plenty of shopping, quality snorkling and scuba diving. On the lake itself, there are opportunities for fresh water activities through local businesses.
