Aloha from Charlene and Gary.

A little about us.

Char was raised on Maui just a few miles up the beach from Aloha AKU and went to grade school and to St. Anthony’s High School on Maui. Her family also lives here on the island so she and they have seen a lot of changes on Maui over the years. After high school Char left for College at Santa Clara University and majored in TV Production and French. After College she moved the LA and began a carrier in the Entertainment Industry doing everything from modeling to acting and from Producing, Directing and Writing to finally running Production and Entertainment companies.

Ok, so she played Hollywood. Gary has also had a good life having lived in many parts of the country having followed a very successful career in High Tech. He has been a key contributor to Ethernet, Computer analyzed EKG systems, founded a start up Telecommunications product company in Silicon Valley, and ran a successful high tech company in LA. He has always seen himself living on an island and meeting Char 20 years ago was just the ticket to get him to Maui.

So a few years ago this LA couple decided that the time had come to leave the Merry-go-round of their respective businesses and buy a place on Maui and “come home”. So here they are, living the “maui life” as active members of the local community and on many non-profit boards and are supporting many worthy causes. And they decided to create Aloha AKU Inn & Suites and offer a fun, laid back Maui beach experience to fun, laid back and interesting people.

Home away from home

2017 was our third stay at the Waiohuli Beach Hale and we are booked for 2018. The location is perfect for all activities snorkelling, surfing, paddle boarding whale watching etc. You don't have to rent a boat for watching marine life you can see whales breaching and turtles from the beach. Sometimes turtles right on the beach, which Is just a two minute walk from condo. Interior is clean modern and comfortable. I already miss waking up to birds singing. Our 6th year in a row!

We had wonderful experiences staying at #115 and were treated so well by the owners. Hearing the unit had sold in December we were a bit apprehensive. However, our worry was for naught. Charlene and Gary welcomed us and were very responsive to any of our needs or concerns. We look forward to this continuing to be our "February" home every year.

Great family holiday rental - conveniently located on the beach

Our family of 4, including two teenage boys, travelled to Kihei this past January for a 10 day family holiday. This was our second trip to Maui. We were fortunate to able to stay at the Waiohuli Beach Hale Unit D115. It was a cozy, mainfloor suite that was steps away from the beach! It was equipped with everything we needed to make our travel very convenient: cooler, beach chairs, beach towels! All we brought was a knapsack with a couple changes of clothing and our bathing suits - really I mean it! Having the owners right next door was a great opportunity to take advantage of their generous offer to use boogie boards, paddle boards and kayaks – all easily accessible and steps away from the beach! We saw turtles as we watched the sunset and enjoyed our meals on the lanai! Being centrally located...we had quick access to the grocery store, ice cream (amazing gelato!) and shops/restaurants. The kitchen has been recently renovated and was equipped with everything we needed – including a blender to make fresh fruit smoothies! The bed was very comfortable and having a washer/dryer available in the complex made laundry easy. It is a small suite but given most of our time was spent outside and the location was beautiful it was worth being a little friendly on the couch!

We enjoyed the pool once but just couldn't swim there when the ocean is right next door! Unit is situated on a quiet beach, not found in the various guide books, but lovely for peaceful walks and swimming (not a boogie board beach). From the shore we saw quite a few turtles, a variety of fish, birds and other beach life.

The birds woke us up each morning and the boys enjoyed holding the brightly coloured gecko lizards lounging on the walls.

A huge thank you to Charlene, who took over ownership of the unit fter we had booked and made the transition smooth and accommodated our every request. We look forward to coming back again and will definitely stay here - or at the beautiful sister units next door at AlohaKai!

Perfection! Will be back!

My wife and I stayed here for 9 blissful days. It was the first time in 10 years that we had any time away from our kids. As soon as we entered the door and had a drink on the patio we were in heaven. The unit it very tastefully reno'd. The ammenities are awesome, right down to the beach chairs and boogie boards. The pool is such and extra considering you are on an awesome beach, even if its not in a guide book. You are centrally located, great grocery store up the street. Super quiet and clean part of town. We live on Vancouver Island, which is beautiful, but I cannot wait to get back to Maui and will rent your condo again. Mahalo!

Our needs we're met well in this complex. This was our third stay here but first for this unit. All are basically the same. We had a few issues which were dealt with swiftly by the owner. We appreciated their responses and enjoyed every day on Maui.

Wouldn't stay anyplace else in Maui

This was our second visit to this unit and we have already reserved it for 2014. This unit and its sister property next door could not be better. Both units have been completely renovated in the last two to three years. They have been tastefully decorated and completely equipped with anything you would require for your stay. The owners ensure a high standard of cleanliness and maintenance by continuing to replace and repair where necessary. The fact that the lanai was shaded all day was a big plus for us. The property is in an excellent location. It is a 25 minute drive from the airport, within walking distance to shopping, restaurants and even a live theatre. The beach is great for walking, whale watching and enjoying beautiful sunsets. If you are an avid ocean swimmer, this is not the best beach on the island but we enjoy the lovely solar heated pool. There is a very friendly and warm atmosphere among the tenants. Groups gather to watch the sunset and around the community barbecues. For a wonderful vacation in Maui we would highly recommend this unit and property.
