Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, a twin bed requies extra fee, 3.5+ Baths, (Sleeps 6-7)

Come and stay at the Hill House - a stone's throw away from the National Park Boundary. Enjoy wildlife on your doorstep and carefully tended native perennial flowers while staying in a cozy, homey environment.

The house faces south with a sweeping view of Longs Peak and neighboring mountains. Our large wrap-around porch is the best access to the yard of flowers and reflecting pond. It is perfect for reading, dining, being entertained by our visiting hummingbirds, or watching the elk and mule deer pass by. You can even grill or eat outside during our afternoon thunderstorms.

The National Park is just out the back door. The entrance station can be reached without having to negotiate downtown traffic and you can even hike in on foot. If you do want to go downtown and don't want to hassle with parking (a momentous task in the summer months), you can take the town's free shuttle. There is a stop just at the end of the road.

The house boasts three bedrooms, all with private bathrooms. The two bedrooms on the second floor offer privacy, a queen size bed, heated floor in the bathroom, a sitting area, and an eastern or western exposure. The third bedroom is on the ground floor with a queen bed and a private bath.

A well-arranged baker's kitchen offers a large island, two ovens, a microwave, dishwasher, and other small appliances.

On chilly evenings the wood stove warms the dining room that seats (6) with a view of Longs Peak from the over sized door.

The cozy living room with cable TV, a combo DVD-VHS player, books of the area, movies, and games.

Wireless internet is also available.

A stay of less than 5 days is $250.00 a night, I require a 4 day minimum unless I have a gap in my calendar. The twin bed requires extra fees if less than 7 guests.

NOTE: While we have a "Book it" button on our listing, we strongly recommend that you contact us first via phone or the "Send e-mail" button. We want all our guests to love staying in our house as much as we do, and to that end, we'd like the opportunity to answer all your questions and make sure it is the best fit for your party, before you make any monetary commitments.

About Trish Stockton

I returned to Estes Park because of fond memories of earlier days working at Dude ranches in the area. I purchased Hill House in 2007. I have the good fortune to work in Rocky Mountain National Park with the Resource Division. I tend to the native plants during the day and then to my own at home. My background is plants so the yard around Hill House has a mixture of native and other perennials.

I have spent 5 years improving Hill House. What was once a little house with an attached rickety cabin is now a simple but comfortable home. I salvaged all I could when I dismantled the cabin addition and have reused much of the paneling, trim, and exterior siding. I was able to build a small green house using the old windows, siding for the floor, and reused roofing. I also frequented building material recycling yards and have purchased items such as sinks, vanities, the sliding door in the kitchen, as well as other doors. After this long road of never-ending projects, I am excited to share Hill House with you.

During the winter of 2015 I added a garage to the back of the house.

Why Trish Stockton chose Front Range

Hill House is close to my beloved Rocky Mountain National Park (I can walk to work). Longs Peak and surrounding mountains can be seen from the front porch. The neighborhood is in a quaint older area of Estes.

What makes this house unique

If you are tired of driving or didn’t bring a car, free transportation is conveniently available from Hill House during the summer season. After a long day of hiking or hitting the shops, Hill House is a great place to relax. The comfy chairs on the wrap-around porch offer not only views of the mountains, but the continuous entertainment of the local birds enjoying all the flowers in the yard.

Great views of Longs Peak

  • 5 of 5

After only being there an hour, we were all planning our return trip. The home was clean and inviting. Hill House is very convenient to the RMNP(you can actually walk to the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center in about 15 min)and Estes Park. There are several restaurants nearby, so you don't have to go to Estes Park if you want to eat out. But, the kitchen had anything you would ever want to cook with including lots of spices, condiments and baking items if you chose to cook your meals. We all liked sitting on the porch looking at Longs Peak and listening for the elk to bugle. The elk were very active during our stay and we got to hear the bugling at all times of day and night! Trish was very helpful whenever we asked for information and she had lots of tips inside the home as well. I would highly recommend Hill House for your vacation. It would be your home away from home.

Hill House: excellent location, comfortable older house; enjoyed front porch most. Owner helpful.

  • 4 of 5

The location of Hill House is excellent: close to RMNP yet also close enough to the town of Estes Park if we wanted to walk around there evenings after hiking. The house and setting were quiet & peaceful. The owner was nearby & responsive yet completely respectful of our privacy.

There were many "little notes" around the house/property with guidelines/instructions; I respect & understand the need for this type of direction with serving a variety of renters/tenants, yet the notes sometimes felt like too much direction, at least to me personally. My family members and I were also all amused by the notes and appreciative of the implicit dedication to the house, furnishings, property, and ecosystem. I especially enjoyed learning more about the local water resources.

The views of the nearby mountains were stunning; we spent early mornings, breakfasts and evenings after hiking on the front porch enjoying the fresh air, changing light and beautiful views. We saw wildlife (elk, deer, rabbits, + smaller critters & birds) from that vantage point, too, including a dramatic elk chase (female followed by a male!) galloping down the road one evening during the elk rut season.

One small suggestion for kitchen/guest improvement would be to invest in a regular toaster. The small toaster oven was finicky and took a very, very long time to make toast; it seemed inefficient and possibly a bit unsafe.

Hill House provided a serene resting & recharging place during our hiking vacation to RMNP; I travelled there with my sister and young adult nephew during the just-off-season in mid-September.

Mountain Cabin with lots of bathrooms!

  • 5 of 5

Our family loved the 'mountain cabin' ambiance with very convenient location for Park Shuttle, ample bedrooms & sleeping space with most importantly 3 1/5 bathrooms! We saw elk just a block away and our 10 year old granddaughter had a life changing experience as she scrambled across boulders while hiking with her dad. They also used K M Mountain Adventures for an awesome rock climbing experience! thanks Trish for such a great home!

Hill House is a wonderful place to stay. The house is so homey and comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay here. The views from the porch are spectacular. The house is close to Estes Park and RMNP but far enough to be away from the crowds. Quiet and peaceful. Would of liked to stay longer. Would recommend this property.

Hill House Estes Park, CO

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely, charming, roomy, comfortable place!! Everything you could ever want was provided - games, books, pots, pans, coffee maker, coffee filters and SO much more. We generally spend the majority of our vacations out away from the place where we're staying, but in this case, Hill House was so wonderful that we spent the majority of our time there!!
