Sobamilina Vacation Rental Property - Charming three story home. Two bedrooms, 1/2 bathroom on main level and 1 full bathroom on second level. Bright living room with gleaming hardwood floors. Separate dining room with hardwood floors. Private deck and back yard for BBQ and quiet time.

Bathroom - The house has a tankless water system which means you can never run out of hot water.

Parking for small to medium size cars ONLY.

SUV's and Minivans do not fit due to width of driveway and size of carport.

No smoking.

No pets.

Not suitable for people with allergies as owner lives in the house 6 months of the year and owns a cat.

Property best suited for families, or friends. Not as suitable for couples or business colleagues.

Cathcart Street is a quiet street in a friendly neighbourhood. Located in the Byward Market. Well suited to an active lifestyle this home is located within walking distance of Parliament Hill, National Art Gallery, Foreign Affairs, Rideau Canal and the Business District. Bicycle paths close by. Specialty stores, hospitals and universities are within minutes.

Local events and festivals such as Tulip festival, Winterlude, and Canada Day celebrations are all within walking distance. If you enjoy theatre, ballet or concerts, the National Arts Centre is also a 5 min walk away.

Clean and bright and perfectly located for business and pleasure near downtown Ottawa

this was a combination one week business trip and long weekend vacation. The location was perfect, a simple 3 block walk to Bridgehead Coffee, and a few blocks more and you are in the bustle of Byward market. the kitchen had everything needed for meal prep and the back deck was private and sunny and great place to sit in late afternoon. i will think fondly of this place and plan to come back again.

Great Location

This unit is fully equipped with everything for the kitchen and everything you could wish for. The location is only about five blocks from Byward Market. The only down side would be some better landscaping outside with a couple of comfortable chairs for the front and back decks. Also, you access the top bedroom by walking through the first bedroom, which might be a concern depending on who you are traveling with.

Lovely home in wonderful location

Before discussing the home, I must say that Lynda was extremely easy to deal with, and it wasn't easy for her because I was making reservations while on a bicycle trip, but she was quite understanding and flexible. Everything in the house was just as promised, and Lynda repaid the security deposit very quickly after our stay.

The house is furnished in a very charming and comfortable way. We enjoyed our house time planning our excursions, reading, and just winding down at the end of our busy days.

My husband and I were quite comfortable in the main bedroom, and my daughter was very comfortable in the third floor bedroom, which is accessed from the main bedroom. The kitchen is furnished with anything you might want for a short stay, including spices and dried herbs. The WiFi worked very well, and the air conditioning cooled the house quickly when we returned at the end of the day.

We found the walks to Parliament Hill, the bridge over to Gatineau, Bymarket, the fabulous National Gallery and other points of interest very pleasant, and we didn't use our car from when we arrived until we left. The location really is great.

Felt violated - Disappointed

I booked 2 nights for May long week end. was very specific we were 3 friends and not couples. I also had several correspondences with Lydia (landlord) regarding the three figure deposit she requested and also specific reasons she may deduct a fee which is outlined in the agreement. She confirmed it was only for garbage removal and dirty dishes. House is listed for 4 people with a couch. Was happy we will have sufficient space as it was only 3 of us.

Upon arrival there was only one private bedroom in the attic, very low ceiling which sleeps 2 comfortably,, the other is NOT a bedroom but the landing on the first floor with a double sleeping area (not call it a proper bed, more like an unstable, short, elevated sleeping surface) with absolutely no privacy as it was a walk thru to the attic. there were open shelves in this area to keep bags and toiletries. since we could not sleep on the unstable surface, I opted to sleep on the couch on the main floor, could not find linen to cover the couch. hence, requested the Manager to supply. He requested the cleaning lady to provide what we required as everything in that house is locked up with signs "private". the cleaning lady provided the needful as it was a cold night. By the way, if you are staying for couple of days or more there are no cupboards to put away your clothes. you have to live off your suitcase. Did I mention we could not sit outside as the grass and weeds were overgrown, not trimmed. Not a good back garden for allergy sufferers.

We barley spent much time at the house. However, the house was spotless when we left. The garbage was put away and the dishes washed. It took more than a week for the deposit to be reimbursed after 2 follow up emails. However, I did not receive the full amount. but an amount after a penalty was taken for the cleaning lady to provide the sheets that night. Felt totally violated. I have asked several times for a receipt showing the amount was invoiced to her by the lady for providing the sheets that night. She was taking advantage of having the upper hand with my deposit. She did not respond to this and I have not received a copy of the invoice to date. It is very clear it was her intention to deduct a fee regardless of the issue. It is common practise when renting for overnight guests to have extra linen. Will not rent this house, too many restrictions, signs all over the house and instructions. It is not couch surfing, held hostile with the deposit. BEWARE RENTERS!

Owner's Response: All you have to do is read previous reviews to see the reviews of this house are good…. this woman however was an inconsiderate and difficult guest, so not at all surprised by the review. I could go ahead and defend comments she made about my home but again my reviews speak for themselves. The problem here was the renter, and as such, I have responded with regards to her. My listing specifically lists 2 beds, one king and one double (both stable beds), sleeping 4 guests, and therefore accommodating her party of 3. No where do I say there is a pullout couch. Had she asked if there was a pull out couch, I would have said no, and that the maximum allowed in the house was 4. Namita demanded, at 11pm at night, that she must have linen and duvets for the couch. My cleaning lady had to drive and work an hour in total to supply the needed linens. She proceeded to tell my manager and cleaning lady that I knew she wanted this… a blatant lie. I emailed her twice the next day, once on VRBO and once at her personal email, to ask why she needed extra linen? were there more then 4 people in the house? She never responded to me. The next email I received from her was demanding her deposit returned. It seems to me that Namita needs to read a little better. Had she read my listing, she would have known there was no pullout couch and therefore no linens for it and she would also know that as she had paid through VRBO, her deposit was returned to her 7 days after she had left the premisses. I called VRBO to discuss this situation because at the end of the day, my cleaning lady charged me for the extra time. This woman cost me money and I was within my rights to charge that back to her. I did not provide her with a receipt because she would have only submitted it as an expense to her company and why should they pay for her stupidity. OWNERS BEWARE! please note this woman left her review anonymously (which should tell you something). Her name is Namita K should you ever get a rental request from her.

The property is within walking distance of all the downtown attractions. Clear instructions were provided on the use of everything within the property, which was organized and well equipped. We were very comfortable and enjoyed our stay..
