Great cabin in convenient location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here over the July 4 holiday. Although this is the busiest time of the year on Lake Tahoe, the cabin is far enough from the lake to be out of the hub-bub but close enough to get to the stores, restaurants, and the lake itself in a few minutes. It was reasonably priced and well-appointed. The lake and the surrounding area is spectacular. We will definitely consider staying in this cabin in the future.

""Cabin Awesome"

  • 5 of 5

When I was unable to get a cabin at Camp Sacramento near Twin Bridges (after being on a waiting list for 11 months), wanting to attend the same camp sessions as my childhood girlfriend and her extended family, I thought the next best option would be to find a cabin nearby and go to Camp Sacto each day. Valerie's Strawberry cabin fit the bill perfectly - and was only a 4 minute drive away.

We took my two young grandson's ( four and seven years), who named it "Cabin Awesome". They claimed beds in the loft, quickly learned to climb the ship's ladder stairs and spent hours playing in Valerie's son's Leggo box upstairs, completing projects on the table out front or snuggling with books on the couch..

Mornings and evenings were spent on the expansive front deck surrounded by the forest. We took the grandkids to Camp Sacramento a bit each day as well as taking daily hikes in the area (Echo Lake, Cody Lake, Cascade hike to the bottom of Horsetail Falls and free hiking to a ridge above Cody Lake while looking for Cody Meadows). The kids really had a chance to stretch their mountain goat legs!

It was always a delight to come back to the cabin each evening. Cozy, clean, comfortable with an updated bathroom, kitchen and all the amenities you would need (including an outstanding Cuisinart teapot). We felt secluded, even though only seconds from Hiway 50, across the street from Strawberry Lodge and just down the road from Strawberry Station, a fantastic mountain country store with fine wines, fresh baked cookies/muffins and an REI type climbing shop...and friendly people.

Valerie was wonderful to work with and immediately responsive to our questions and requests.

If you are looking for seclusion that is close to the American River, Lover's Leap, Echo Lake, Sierra-At-Tahoe, Lake Tahoe and free of crowds, "Cabin Awesome" is your place. A cabin finally opened for us at Camp, but I'm thinking "Cabin Awesome" may become a nice yearly tradition for us and the grands!!!

Owner's Response: Cathy, Cathy, I love the details of your review! In our family, I have officially change the name of our cabin to “Cabin Awesome!” You all explored so many local lakes. Loved the pictures you sent to me enjoying the local area and hikes, especially the one at Horse Tail Falls. Glad the kids enjoyed the legos and games. We think our cabin is where memories are made and your review amplifies that sentiment. We hope you make this yearly visit!!!

We loved this sweet cabin! Only stayed for a brief night, but enjoyed the room with a queen bed. Bathroom was even stocked with shampoo and conditioner amenities. We enjoyed the front porch and had our morning coffee out there. Lovely cabin in the beautiful woods!

Excellent Rental

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was clean, well stocked with the necessities, furnishings were comfortable and inviting. We had plenty of space and felt right at home. The location was perfect for our South Lake Tahoe vacation. It was a thirty minute drive from state line which gave us the option to enjoy the lake area with ease but far enough away to feel secluded and relaxed. Strawberry Lodge and Grocery were around the corner for all our needs. The owner was easy to communicate with and made checking in and entry easy and enjoyable. I can't wait to return when we visit again.

Cozy and charming!

  • 5 of 5

What a great little cabin, nestled in the woods of Strawberry, ten minutes or less from Sierra at Tahoe ski resort; my son and I couldn't have been happier! The owner, Valerie, is one of the sweetest, most charming vacation owners I've ever run across; accessible, helpful, gracious and flexible- what a joy to have made her acquaintance! The cabin is very quaint, with a great fireplace, modern kitchen and comfortable beds. In addition, if you are renting ski equipment, Squirrel at the general store a stones' throw away will rent you brand new ski equipment at a great price. The accommodations, hospitality and genuine warmth of Valerie and all her contacts made this a wonderful three night stay; we hope to come back for some more skiing soon!

Lovely cabin, lovely owner

  • 5 of 5

This was our third or fourth time back and the cabin never fails to please. This time we found two new trails we hadn't hiked before that were magnificent. The cabin itself is immaculately clean--pine walls glean, no tiny bits of grunge in corners that one often finds in rural setting. The kitchen is amazingly well-equipped, plenty of towels in the bathroom, charming cozy bedroom.

We will be definitely be back, wouldn't stay anywhere else in the area. I can't say enough nice things about the owner.

Good for young children who are old enough to be safe climbing fairly steep ladder to three bed loft area.
