About the Property

Villa, 5 Bedrooms, 4 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

The Villa Tagliata is a very comfortable 2 story renovated farmhouse/villa that is part of the historical complex of the Tagliata Tower, also know as the Puccini tower for the famous composer, Giacomo Puccini, who lived here and composed many operas here as well. There are 5 double bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, one of which is ensuite to a master bedroom. There is a wonderfully cool courtyard enclosed in the spanish stone walls that will be your favorite afternoon hangout for reading and relaxing. The property is directly on the Tagliata beach, with your private access, you are steps away from the beach and will have the most relaxing and wonderful days of your vacation enjoying the clear water of the Tyrhennian sea. Very short drive to Capalbio and Orbetello where there are numerous fashionable boutiques, restaurants, and movie theaters. The Argentario Golf Club is just a short 15 minute drive just beyond Orbetello on the way to Porto Ercole and Porto Santo Stefano. The Pineta, or Pine forest, which is the backbone to the other beach, the Feniglia, on the opposite side of the Ansedonia peninsula, is a unique part of the WWF protected area and is perfect for fresh afternoon walks on this unspoilt beach or for bike rides in the refreshing pine forest.

Car: Necessary

The Villa Rosa in Ansedonia is the perfect relaxation spot for your holiday with family or with friends. You are directly on the beach of the Tagliata, which is hard to believe, but this was originally a Spanish water tower, and prison, converted into a home by Giacomo Puccini. Day or short trips to Rome, Siena and Florence are easily do-able from here- 1 1/2 hr. to maximun 2 1/2 hour drives. The WWF protected area of Maremma makes this spot unique and unspoilt compared to any other beach resort in Italy. Monte Argentario which is a 10 minute car trip boasts its vacation spots of Porto Ercole and Porto Santo Stefano ports from where you can take the ferry boat to the island of Giglio for a wonderful day trip. Traveling by car and exploring the inside area of Maremma and visiting the medieval walled towns of Capalbio, Manciano, Scansano, Montiano, Saturnia (where the famous sulfur spa and baths are) and more are definite must-sees on your 'to-do' list. Not only for the scenic beauty but also for the gastronomical experience that one encounters stopping in these small towns that seem to have been frozen in time. For wine lovers there are great cantinas that produce Morellino di Scansano and are open to the public for tastings and visits.

Owner info

Year Purchased: 1910

About the owner: My husband and I live in Rome and enjoy coming to Ansedonia on weekends when the temperatures start to rise in May and the city becomes unbearably hot.. We love to boat around the coast and spend our days just soaking up the sun and enjoyng time with our boating friends. In the hot summer months. It is just blissful to relax in the shady courtyard with a good book and wander down to the beach for a sunset walk or swim and later enjoy a drink on the water's edge if you prefer to stay a landlubber.

Why the Owner Chose Ansedonia, Grosseto, Italy:
This unique property has been in my husband's family for over 100 years. It was bought by our grandfather directly from the Italian composer Giacomo Puccini (of Madame Butterfly fame) who resided here for many years, and in the last days of his life began composing the opera 'Turandot'. It has been restored with all the modern amenities yet has maintained its Tuscan flair with family antiques. There is air conditioning in all the bedrooms and fly screens as well. The large living room downstairs and the courtyard outside amongst the centuries-old brick and stone walls make this house special and one of a kind. The 'radical-chic' hilltop town of Capalbio and Orbetello are within 10 minutes by car in both directions for food or boutique shopping as well. Porto Ercole and Porto Santo Stefano are also easy drives by car for a nice afternoon walk and visit where you will have a myriad of choices for restaurants. But, coming back to the peace and tranquillity of the Villa Rosa after all that hustle and bustle will be greatly appreciated.

The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
Relaxing and getting away from it all yet being only a short distance away to visit the nearby towns of Capalbio, Orbetello and the Monte Argentario. Long beach walks, biking through the pine forest that runs along the backside of the Feniglia beach until you reach the halfway point and going for a swim in the pristine waters on the clean and unspoilt beach. Pure bliss and relaxation.
