Wonderful time staying at the Skipjack!

  • 5 of 5

Our family goes on vacation together each year. This was our first time staying on Dauphin Island and we were not disappointed. The island is a quiet beach getaway without a lot of commercial chaos. The Skipjack was awesome, very clean and accommodating. The room configuration was perfect for our adult children and grandchildren. We especially enjoyed the large deck facing the gulf. This beach house and location is awesome and I look forward to our next visit.

Skipjack was AWESOME!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived to the Skipjack residence and were pleasantly surprised at how gorgeous the home was. We knew it would be nice, based on the pictures online, but we never expected the property to be outstanding! The house was very neat and organized. Very clean from the previous guests. I would definitely stay at Skipjack again! The set-up of the house is perfect for taking your entire family. Each bedroom is separate from the other, and there is plenty of space in all of them! While staying on Dauphin Island, we ate our last dinner at The Islander, which is just down the street. The food was wonderful and the service was even better! I would totally recommend eating there as well! We visited the Fort on the island. That was a nice visit as well. The gift shop was great and the employees there were very friendly as well!

I think the only thing I would change about the house itself, would be to add a ceiling fan on the back patio. The mosquitos were pretty heavy, which is nothing unusual for that climate, I'm sure. I would also advise to watch for jellyfish in the ocean. My husband got stung pretty badly on the first evening there. He recovered and was able to get back in the water, but you will definitely want to have something on hand for that.

Beautiful house and perfect location on the beach.

  • 5 of 5

The house was beautiful! The decor looked like it came from a magazine. We were so excited when we pulled up for the first time and saw how perfect everything was. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, serving dishes and many extras. We loved having a washer dryer available. We had two families with 4 adults and six kids staying. There was plenty of room and it was great having 4 bathrooms with that many people. The bouse is the perfect distance from the beach. There is a good amount of sand between the house and water for kids to play in, yet the ocean is in your backyard. We slept with our door open each night and loved hearing the ocean sounds. The back deck is perfect for eating and relaxing. It was also very convenient to have a spray hose close to the back door to clean sandy feet off before going inside. We visited the West end public beach a couple times because there were tons of shells to collect there. The island is pretty quaint and there isn't a whole lot of places to go which makes it perfect for relaxing and enjoying the beach. The Lighthouse Bakery is a definite recommendation though for delicious cinnamon rolls!

Skipjack-103 St. Denis Ct. There are so many reasons to love Dauphin Island. The atmosphere is quiet and laid back (you are on Island Time). The beaches are beautiful, white sand, miles of beach to walk, enjoy shelling, fishing, birding, watching the dolphins (lots of them)! The SUNSETS are fantastic....Dauphin Island is Alabama's "Sunset Capitol" Skip Jack provides you with an awesome deck overlooking views of the Gulf of Mexico and the beautiful beach. You are also close to the island-wide bike trail which is great for biking, running or walking. There are no traffic lights on the Island and life is truly low key. This will be the most relaxing vacation you can remember!

Be sure to visit the Dauphin Island Bird Sanctuary! The Sanctuary consists of 137 acres of maritime forest, marshes, and dunes, including a lake, swamp and beach! Recently, the 3 mile trail system within the Sanctuary has been designated as a National Recreational Trail.

Other popular area attractions:

- Dauphin Island Sea Lab Estuarium.

-Fort Gaines (a Civil War fort)

-Mobile Bay Ferry. Only a 30 minute ride to Fort Morgan (another Civil War fort) and a 20 minute drive to Gulf Shores from there where you will find great shopping and dining. If you make it over to Baldwin County, make sure to visit the quaint town of Fairhope Alabama where you will find more great restaurants, fabulous shopping and beautiful views of Mobile Bay.

-The Dauphin Island Marina offers eco tours, fishing, kayak, paddle board rentals and more!
