Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Den, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-5)
Fully renovated in 2006, this charming cottage is a short walk from shops, restaurants, the ocean, Acadia National Park's hiking trails and carriage roads. Set back from a quiet residential street, the cottage nestles behind a picket fence and cottage garden full of flowers.
Start your day sipping coffee or tea in the sunny south-facing kitchen with warm wooden cabinets and floors, and granite countertops. End your day of exploring in the cozy living room or in the front garden. Or go upstairs and sit on the private 'tree house' balcony off the master bedroom, sipping wine and watching the evening descend while enjoying the cool breezes that often sweep in off the ocean in the late afternoon.
This adorable, unique home features fun cottage colors and stained glass windows in the kitchen and upstairs twin bedroom. A cathedral ceiling, fan, and air conditioner in the master bedroom will keep you comfortable even on the warmest nights. Lay in bed at night on professionally laundered linens and view stars through the skylight.
Our cottage sleeps four but can sleep six with the addition of the futon in the downstairs sitting room/den. Downstairs you will find an open floor plan with an entryway, a large eat-in kitchen, living room with a chimney made of local granite, sitting room/den and full bath. Upstairs is the master bedroom with queen bed and private balcony, a bedroom with twin beds, and a full bath with stained glass mirror, shower and clawfoot tub.
You need never worry about finding a parking place in Bar Harbor! From our peaceful cottage you will have just a short walk (10 minutes or less) to all the attractions of downtown: restaurants, cafes, movie theater, ice cream shops, art galleries, the Abbe Museum, etc. From the nearby Village Green you can access the Island Explorer bus system and travel for free all over Mount Desert Island. A short walk in the other direction brings you to the lower terminus of Bar Harbor's historic and scenic Shore Path. You can also walk from our cottage to the Great Meadow Loop Village Connector Trail into Acadia National Park and visit Sieur de Monts Spring and the Wild Gardens of Acadia, or access trails to Dorr Mtn, Cadillac Mtn, Kebo Mtn, and Champlain Mtn. On Sunday mornings you can walk two blocks to the wonderful Farmer's Market in the YMCA parking lot, where you can purchase fresh produce, local cheese and dairy products, baked goods, and other delicious local treats.
We love our dog and welcome your well behaved canine companion into our home. Bar Harbor is a dog friendly town; however dogs do need to be leashed and cleaned up after. Some shops will even offer your canine companion a treat. We would be happy to share some places to go with your dog where you can both run free.
The spectacular scenery of Mount Desert Island will leave you breathless. Opportunities for hiking, biking, kayaking and just plain exploring abound. When you book your stay we will be glad to share some of our favorite places on this island with you.

We are both retired, from careers in hospital nursing and speech/language pathology in the public schools. Our three children are grown and all live in different parts of Maine. We share our home with one dog and two cats.
Owner purchased this Cottage in 1997
Why Owner chose Bar Harbor
We originally bought our Bar Harbor home to provide housing for our daughter, who was attending College of the Atlantic in 1997. (We've been coming to Bar Harbor since the 1970's). We love the area so much, we decided to retire down here.
What makes this Cottage unique
We love the proximity of so many wonderful places from our cottage. A favorite morning ritual is taking our dog for a walk, stopping at the local market to get a cup of coffee, and then continuing to the Shore Path, where we sit on some rocks overlooking Frenchman's Bay and enjoy the amazing view while sipping our coffee. It's a great way to start a summer day!

The location of this cottage was perfect. A couple minute walk to the hustle and bustle but quiet and easy to drive to and from avoiding all the traffic of town! Our family of 2 adults and 3 kids fit perfectly and the kids loved the selection of games available in the house. Would have been perfect for a rainy relaxing day but we had perfect weather for our week! My husband and I enjoyed the porch upstairs for coffee and cocktails.
Charming cottage makes a great home base for Acadia adventures!
This cottage was everything we hoped it would be for our trip. It was stocked with all the things we needed (cookware, towels, bed linens, a fantastic book collection) and perfectly located-- it's just a short walk to town for a meal (or ice cream!), to catch the bus, or to explore the Bar Harbor shore path. It is as cute as it looks in the pictures and the rooms not pictured (upstairs bedroom with twin & trundle, downstairs bath with shower) are in fine condition. In addition to amenities listed, the owners provide information on things to do in the area as well as Acadia hiking guides, which we well appreciated.
It is so great that the owners allow dogs as Bar Harbor and Acadia are very dog friendly! There is a local park just a few blocks away from the cottage that was perfect for the quick morning/evening dog run; the owners also provide directions to the dog-friendly Little Long Pond hiking area that is an amazing place to bring your dog.
As a previous reviewer noted, the cottage is older and has a narrow staircase and uneven floors upstairs. I mention it because we do have a relative with mild disabilities who, although she can handle most stairs, would find this difficult to navigate, so I want to provide fair warning. For most people it will just be a charming quirk of an older home.
We were thrilled to find such a lovely dog-friendly cottage. The location is ideal, close to the Shore Path and Main Street, in a nice, quiet area. We loved being able to walk to restaurants nearly every night, you can even walk to the grocery store. The table in the front garden and the tree-house deck were our favorite spots to relax in the afternoon after hiking. The cottage was very well-appointed, we had everything we could possible need. The owners were very responsive to our rental request and a pleasure to deal with through the entire process - and the cottage was spotless when we arrived. The owners left a detailed binder with tips and activities in Bar Harbor and MDI, and even left a hiking book for us to use! It was a treasure. This home was perfect for us and we can't wait to return!
Fabulous family friendly cottage
This cottage was perfect for our family of 5 (mom and 4 young adult/teenage children). There were just enough beds for us and the two bathrooms were a great perk. The cottage was not too big so the teenagers could not hibernate for too long, making family time easy to achieve. Everything in Bar Harbor is within walking distance from this cottage and driving to different parts of Acadia National park was easy. Additionally, bus transportation from a park near the cottage to different parts of Acadia was free and could accommodate bikes.
The cottage was clean and very cute. The hosts have stocked their cottage with cookware, towels, bed linens, a gas grill was available, and although we did not need it, there are air conditioners in the master bedroom and the living room. The kitchen is modern with a dishwasher to boot. The master bed was comfortable. My favorite part though was a small deck off of the master bedroom that was private (neighbors could not see onto the deck). I loved going out to the deck to relax after a day of hiking and sitting on a lounge chair with a cold beverage.
I would definitely recommend this cottage for couples, families, or a girls trip. I hope to visit Acadia with my husband in the future (he was not able to get away from work for this trip due to a previous fishing trip he took with his son). When I do return, I will definitely see if Sharon and Enoch are still renting their cottage.
Wonderful stay in Bar Harbor/Acadia!
Darling, comfortable cottage within a 5 minute walk to heart of Bar Harbor. Extremely clean and all the amenities of home. The owners were extremely hospitable and quick to respond to any of my email questions. They provided a binder with a wealth of information about the area to help get us going in the right direction and eating at some favorite spots. Very friendly and helpful neighbors, too!
Loved the lounge chairs on the upstairs balcony--great place for an afternoon nap after a morning of hiking! It was nice to have the use of a washer and dryer, too, as we had already been traveling for a week prior to our visit here.
Our main reason for visiting was to see Acadia National Park. A 5 minute walk to the free national park shuttle bus could get you anywhere you'd like to go within Acadia. One day, we began our hiking from the house on the Great Meadow Loop to Jesup Path to Sieur de Monts. Our location was perfect!
We would definitely stay here, again, with our family of 4. Thanks so much, Sharon and Enoch!!
Cozy, convenient, home-away-from-home!
This was a perfect place to call home for our week in Bar Harbor! It was convenient to absolutely everything - easy to walk to downtown or drive to anywhere on the island. We were lucky enough to be there over the 4th of July and had so much fun walking just down the street to all the festivities - Pancake Breakfast, Craft Fair, Parade, and more! The cottage itself was the perfect size for our family of four (children ages 2 and 5), and could have even comfortably fit more. It has an open and roomy feel, and the updated kitchen and bathroom on the first floor were wonderful. The owners, Enoch and Sharon, were very responsive and incredibly helpful - as were their neighbors! We hope to return here again some day and highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a place to stay on the island.
