OREGON WINE COUNTRY - SALEM WINE TRAIL
Visit Privet Market on South Commercial for some fresh home made hearty bread, European meats and cheeses for a great picnic then head out to one of the dozen wineries that surround Salem for a taste of Oregon. This will give you a start!
Honeywood Winery – The oldest producing winery in Oregon has created award-winning varietals − including their delicious fruit wines − for more than 75 years.
Redhawk Winery – Enjoy a picnic lunch on an open field as you overlook the beautiful Willamette Valley. The tasting room − featuring a fun and relaxed atmosphere − is open daily 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. year-round.
Witness Tree Vineyard – This winery is named for an ancient oak tree that was used as a surveyor's landmark in 1854 during the Oregon Trail years. The varied microclimates at the vineyard facilitate earlier ripening of the fruit which produces exceptional wines.
St. Innocent Winery – The wines are handcrafted to complement food and extend the pleasure of a meal. The tasting room is open 11 a.m – 4 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday (May 1 through October 31).
Wandering Aengus Ciderworks – The cidery creates outstanding hard ciders from uncommon apple varieties. The tasting room is open the last Friday of each month and by appointment.
Johan Vineyards – Owner Dag Johan Sundby, the descendant of a long line of soil cultivators, moved to the Willamette Valley to make his mark on the ancient Pinot noir grape.
Cherry Hill – Take a scenic stroll through the vineyard or relax on the patio with a glass of delicious Pinot noir. The tasting room is open weekdays 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. (call first) and weekends 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Left Coast Cellars – Past the entrance gates – a piece of art depicting the natural Left Coast Cellarsgrapevines seen beyond them –you'll experience handcrafted, estate-grown Chardonnay, Pinot gris and Pinot noir.
Eola Hills Wine Cellars – The famous all you can eat Sunday Brunch comes with two tickets to experience this winery's award-winning varietals.
Firesteed Celllars – Visitors can experience elegant fine wines at the newly remodeled tasting room and retail shop.
Orchard Heights Winery – The owners of this winery also operate a chocolate factory in Hawaii specializing in gourmet confections using Macadamia nuts, pineapple and Kona coffee beans. Chocolate and wine together – fantastic!
Cubanisimo Vineyards – Dust off your dancing shoes and channel your inner moves at the monthly salsa lessons held at Cubanisimo. Celebrate the wine experience Cuban Style!
If you prefer locally craft brewed beer or cider to wine, new places are opening each year. You can sample dozens of local brews at either of the Venti's Taphouse locations - both locations are 5 minutes away and some of the brewers having tasting rooms as well.
Salem also has its share of great coffee shops and restaurants downtown and nearby. You will be hard pressed to find something you don't like at The Wild Pear in downtown (5 minutes away) but get there early. It's no secret that they are doing a great job. Excellent coffee and cake at Gerry Franks Konditorei. You don't really have to know how to pronounce it to enjoy it. Great Sandwiches and Salads at Break Point coffee.. the list goes on and on.
