You have found the vacation property whose name says it all GEMSTONES, located in Southampton, Bermuda. Gemstones is a luxury villa on its very own private beach. Upon arrival as you approach the property all you can say is 'WOW!'. This three bedroom accommodation has an open plan design with a large balcony off the dining room where you can enjoy panoramic views of the south shore. With another balcony off the master bedroom, fresh coffee and the sunrise will start your day off just right. In the master bedroom a king sized bed, Jacuzzi, and the walk through closet will make you feel right at home. The loft serves as a forth bedding area with a king size futon that can be converted to two single beds. This property has all the comforts you will desire. Wifi available. A fully appointed Viking kitchen and a Sub Zero refridgerator, full laundry and a large back patio area for those summer bar-b-ques. Enjoy your favorite beverage as you nestle by the fireplace in the sunken living room. The breakfast nook is an additional area allowing you further relaxation. Perfect place to read a good book as you watch the waves wash in and roll out gently over the pink sand. Reverse air conditioners are located in selected areas throughout the house. This resort area has the finest restaurants and a major bus route for convenience at the top of “de hill” all within walking distance. Due to popular demand, we have brought our two bedroom apartment online as another vacation rental alternative. Baby Gem is located on the same property as our listing 450166 with VRBO. This two bedroom apartment accommodates 4 guests. The queen size sofa allows our maximum guest count to be 6 persons. Families of more than 8 has taken advantage of this opportunity but you must book early for this convenience. With French doors off the kitchen and another opening onto its own large covered private patio. As you gaze out to sea, this unobstructed view of the south shore leaves you in “awe”. If you yearn for peace, tranquility and space you have come to the end of your search. Location, location, location.
We had an amazing time staying at Gemstones. It was everything we could have wanted and more. Five adults had plenty of space for work and sleep. Wonderfully stocked kitchen and the views are amazing. Beach is only steps away and is a great place to swim. Would recommend this accommodation to everyone!
We spent 4 nights and had a great time. The setting was lovely. Access to the private beach was a real plus. The only negatives were that the house actually comprises three separate units. we occupied the main house which was above the other units. The occupants of one of the units complained about the noise we were making. We were playing cards, laughing and playing background music, not partying hard. We did not go to Bermuda to read novels and go to bed early. That said, we would go back there. The place is great.
What a lovely house! My 5 friends and I enjoyed the condo and the beautiful views for 4 days and nights. So close to the Cross Bay beach, just a few steps down the hill to the secluded pink sand. We didn't have the best weather, just a week after Hurricane Nicole, but the great location allowed us to see the whole island on the buses. The condo had all the supplies we needed to cook our own meals and enjoy the many balconies. Comfortable beds and plenty of towels. Lots of room to spread out and plenty of spaces to gather inside and out. I would highly recommend this property and stay here again on another vacation.
Let me start by saying the home is beautiful and the private beach is fantastic.
There were several issue during our stay; some of which the owners had no control over. Our trip was originally intended to be 5 nights, but due to Hurricane Nicole this was cut to 3 nights (out of the owner's control). When we arrived the the house still had no power or hot water - 3 days after the hurricane. We weren't completely happy with that, but we were rolling with the punches. We didn't mention any displeasure to the owners the first day. They continued to say that the power should be back anytime now and that the power had never been off for more than 3 days in the past. We woke up the next day still with no power, no hot water, and no wifi. At this point, we decided to say something to the owners. After all, we had paid a "service fee" as part of the rental agreement for "Electricity, cable, WiFi and water service". Our intention was to get a partial refund (at least get the service fee back) so that we could stay at a hotel with power and hot water. The owners showed up at the house several hours after calling them to discuss the matter. Not only were they not willing to give any refund, but they were rude about it. Lorna specifically said "you have everything you need" and "there was a hurricane clause in the rental contract" . Luckily, the power did come back on at 3pm that second day we arrived so we did not have to spend a 2nd night fumbling around in the dark. The situation could have been handled more graciously by the owners, which was unfortunate.
The other thing that future guests should be aware of is that this is not a private rental. This is one of 4 apartments in the house. There is another smaller rental downstairs, the owners live in the house also, and the fourth apartment is where the owner's son in law lives. There is nothing wrong with this, but I wish it was more clear in the description that this is not a private rental.
We had a peaceful five day visit. This time of year (September) the water was 85 degrees, and WONDERFUL! The beach is right there, just like in the pictures; crystal clear water, wonderful coral reef on one edge of the beach (Crossbay Beach) for snorkeling. (Lots of fish on that reef, on the side of the beach.) No rocks, fish or reef in the central (95% of) the large sandy beach. My in-laws, age 77and 80 had no trouble going up and down the path to the beach, but they are fit for that age. It would be hard for the frail elderly to walk to the beach. It was easy for us and we did it several times a day.
It is only a short walk to the Fairmont South Hampton hotel restaurants on the hill or their beachfront cafe and formal restaurant at the Fairmont beach.
Immediately next to the Fairmont beach is beautiful Horseshoe Beach and next to that is miles of smaller secluded beaches surrounded by large rocks for privacy. We enjoyed playing in the waves there, and when a brief 20 minute rain shower hit, while we were swimming, it was even more fun in the waves, as the raindrops played with the ocean's surface.
Less than a mile walk in the other direction is Church Bay Beach with best snorkeling I have ever done, although Lorna's beach is still my favorite.
Lorna is a wonderful host. The house is well appointed, the AC is ice cold, and although she advertises it as a three bedroom plus a loft, the loft is like its own suite! The master bedroom and bath are spacious with a wonderful jacuzzi tub, separate shower and private deck. We had 3 and 1/2 couples in the four bedrooms. The house can comfortably accommodate 8 people and its surroundings are beautiful. No need to tour the rest of the island, but we still spent one day doing that, by bus, cab and ferry.
So much more affordable than the resorts for four bedrooms, when the rent is divided by multiple couples. Given it has a great kitchen, it is even more affordable, as Lorna's mother-in-law is a cab driver who will meet you at the airport, take you to a grocery store on the way to the house, and wait while you shop, then deliver you and your food to Gemstones. We made one , two or rarely three meals a day at the house, and enjoyed eating on the beautiful deck or in the dining room. (Restaurants are so expensive in Bermuda, cooking at the house, or making the occasional sandwich saves both time and money.)
Plus, it's just a short 2 hour nonstop from Boston!
We rented both Gemstones and Baby Gem for 5 nights. The property was perfect for a nice family reunion and our wedding.
We couldn't have imagined any part of our stay to be more perfect. Our families also couldn't stop praising the property. We would definitely recommend your property for similar family functions or weddings. The property is large enough to fit 12 people which made it perfect to spend all of our time with family. We also held our wedding there - the ceremony was down on the private beach, and the reception was up at the house overlooking the beach. I may be biased but it was a beautiful wedding :) It's a great property, and the Wilsons made us and our guests feel very welcome.
Located within a 2 minute walk you will be at Gibb's Hill Lighthouse. The perfect place to see the entire islands of Bermuda. The view is amazing.
