Home could be better, but great community
The Cays community was peaceful, beautifully manicured and clean. The property managers, Norman and Julie, were very nice and helpful. The community pool was nice. I would stay at the Cays again but I would not stay at this particular home. There were things that made the house less than comfortable. The screened in porch was so hot we could not sit outside to even drink our coffee in the morning. Because of how the house faces and the screen on the porch there was never a breeze. The screen is there to keep out the bugs but a little bug spray will do the trick. The washer and dryer are outside. This is not a problem, but it gets very hot in the laundry room. There were many burned out light bulbs and missing blind opener wands making it difficult to open and close the blinds. The home is already a bit dark inside, so these issues made it much darker. The last night of our vacation we came home after a long day to a house with no electricity. The home owner had not paid the electric bill. Thankfully Norman and Julie were able to move us to a very nice house in the same neighborhood. If we stayed in the Cays again we would choose the home we stayed in the last night. It was a cute pink house with a great porch with a breeze blowing. It was homey and bright and well decorated.
The electricity went off several times while we were on the island. The first day we arrived we could not buy cold items or items like fruits and veggies that needed to be weighed. Thankfully it only happened during the day and we were typically out on the beach.
The beaches are incredibly beautiful. The Tropic of Cancer was amazing and our three teenage children found more sand dollars than they could count. While on that side of the island you should eat at Santana's. The food and service were great and the view is perfect.
There were a few beaches with trees close enough to the water for me to relax out of the sun and read a book under while the kids played. While looking for Coco Plumb beach we found a little ice cream shop called Lighthouse Café and Ice Cream Parlor that was really good.
We liked the pizza at Splash in Georgetown and the burgers are great at Latitudes. We ate at February Point one night. While the restaurant is very nice, the food was not as good as I would expect for the price we paid. The outdoor market in Georgetown by the marina was nice and the kids found some t-shirts and souvenirs.
We were disappointed to see this review as we have received nothing but 5 stars for the last 5 years we have rented Airwoord Villa. We have never had a complaint about the temperature on the porch. Instead, we have always received positive feedback that the porch is great and that the screening is helpful in keeping the bugs away. We were at Airwood Villa in May and mother nature was blowing the right direction as we had a beautiful breeze on the deck. Regarding the burned out light bulbs, we will rectify this right away as it is part of the monthly maintenance fees we pay on the property. Lastly, it is important to note that we communicated a an apology to the renters within hours of learning about the power outage. As shared with the renters, the credit card was not processed (it was an expired credit card) by the utility company and we never received notification. The power was returned within 12 hours (we had to wait until the offices opened the next morning) of our learning about the issue. We asked the renters how we could compensate them for their trouble. They provided a dollar amount and we send them a check with no questions asked. We were extremely embarrassed and apologetic as we have never had the power cut on any of our renters in the 5 years we have been renting the property. It is unfortunate that it ever happened. As noted, Norman and Julie (the property managers) quickly acted and rectified the situation. We encourage future renters to read all of the reviews as Airwood Villa is a great place to stay and The Cays is a wonderful community to relax and enjoy vacation.
The Cays was beautiful! Excellent beach area,
pool, byob tiki bar, spectacular sunsets and clean. Norman and Julie who manage most of the properties are readily available and offer a wealth of information about the property and island. They were so kind and good people. We stayed at the Airwood Villa and loved it. It was clean, comfortable and the deck was screened, private and where we spent most our time. The only thing that I would suggest would be some newer pots and pans. We would stay her again...miss it!
I could not be happier with our stay in Exuma and specifically in The Cays community.
The house was beautiful and contained all we needed. We felt safe and comfortable. The community was fun and we enjoyed getting to know our fellow vacationing neighbors and Norman and Julia were so helpful.
I would highly recommend staying here with a family or couples. I can say that I have not seen beaches this beautiful ever before! Be sure to do an excursion to see some of the other Cays.
The house was wonderful! While there were only 2 of us this house is large with a great layout. Could easily be shared by a larger family or 2 families sharing. The view is amazing and we loved it being right on the water. You don't even realize there are other houses near by. We fished, snorkled, kayaked and played in the water right out front. It is quite shallow in this area so very safe for playing around.
The island is easy to get around and it's not far to any stores you may need.
This is a well kept home, nicely decorated, comfortable beds, perfect location. I would recommend for anyone needing some island relaxation.
This House and surrounding property was amazing
We absolutely loved everything about our vacation and definitely look forward to a return visit
I can't think of one thing we would do differently
Great stay and would recommend this for families or couples
House was ocean and beach front. Huge home with lots of room for many guest. Kitchen came with everything needed.
We went as 2 couples and had more room then needed. Porch was always in the shade which was wonderful as great exuma gets hot very early in the day.
Norm and his wife were helpful for everything we needed. The community pool was never busy as this is a quiet community to stay in.
Home and community was spotless. Locals were amazing and not pushy.
Prime island meats was our favourite grocery store. Had the best selection of meats and produce by far. He will deliver to your house too on the day of arrival or any other day of the week with 2 day notice.
We went in rainy season, which means bugs. House had no bugs but the beaches do. Bring bug spray for the day and baby oil for the nights. Baby oil is thick so the night bugs can't get to your skin. The locals gave us this advise which helped us to enjoy sitting out on the porch at night which was our favourite thing to do! Sunsets were amazing and the ocean breeze and crashing waves is what made the evening so relaxing with friends.
Another tip. BBQ is charcoal, we ended up cooking in the house as it was too time consuming for us.
We went to sandals for 2 day passes it's$120 a day. Or golf was the same price.
We also had a day trip with Robertson swimming with the pigs full day tour. Do not book through this guy. His tour was brutal and Unprofessionals. All of us were upset with the uncomfortable seating arrangements, I won't go into details but the whole day came with a list of stuff that should have never happen.
Stocking island on our own was amazing. A must do when your there.
Over all it was a fantastic trip and the house was amazing and perfect!!! Defiantly worth the money in the Great Exumas, as this is not a cheap island to go too, but worth every dollar.
