Why Jim & Liz Grice, Chris Grice, Karen Debi chose Tofino

Everyone who visits Tofino for the first time is instantly transformed by this very unique fishing village located at the end of the TransCanada Highway. It happened to us on our first visit here in the 90's. The area has so much to offer and yet quietly remains a slightly obscure destination that many people have not even heard about. That's what keeps our guests coming back year after year. Whether you come to go fishing, surfing, whale watching, hike the many wilderness trails or just to relax and take in the scenery your first trip to Tofino will not be your last.

CedarView House can provide accommodation for up to 6 guests.

Great Setting!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for a great stay at the Cedar View House in Tofino! It was very relaxing, and well situated in close proximity to amenities. Very clean building, and a well kept property.

The hot tub overlooking the water was an added bonus.

Thanks again!

Tofino at its Best!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at the property with my family (1 baby), grandparents and another couple. Great location. The place was spacious and all 3 bedrooms had an en-suite. If you had a large group you could also rent upstairs which would give you an additional 2 bedrooms. They have an amazing deck that goes out to the water which has a great sunken hot tub, fire pit (wood included) and sauna. We had a problem with the BBQ on the first night and it was replaced the next day with a brand new one! The owners were very responsive. We would definitely rent this property again.

Perfect setting!

  • 4 of 5

Cedarview House is a perfect place for two or three couples to stay. It is a beautiful and private wooded retreat only a short drive from downtown Tofino. We enjoyed the hot tub daily and loved the fire pit, the wooded setting and sitting on the back deck. Chesterman beach is a short walk!

We did feel that a few simple improvements could make this cabin in the woods so much more special. It lacks basics like hotel-style bath amenities (shampoo and conditioner, soap, hair dryers in every room, and bath mats). The bathrooms are poorly lit and the mirrors are set too high for most women. Things don't dry quickly in Tofino, so more towel racks or bars would be nice. Shower curtains that reach the floor or, better yet, shower doors for the two rooms with showers so water doesn't go everywhere in the bathroom.

We were two couples, but the set up is ideal with en suite baths for three couples. Upgraded bedding and linens would add a five-star feel to each room. We also would recommend a full length mirror for each.

Better lighting throughout the house would be lovely given the shady wooded setting. Stronger light bulbs with dimmers would add some light. Some basic kitchen supplies are also missing or in poor condition. Sharp knives or serving bowls were at a premium or unavailable. We felt a few basics like aluminum foil, window or kitchen cleaner could have been useful, in addition to coasters to protect some of the lovely wooden furniture. The house was clean, but anything to help keep things tidy for a week would be nice.

We were also concerned that there may be mold present in some of the damper corners of the house. The closet for the bedroom to the left as you enter the house smells strongly of mold and could be an indication of a bigger problem.

Although we suggest these few upgrades, we would recommend Cedarview house and had a wonderful visit. We give the location and setting five stars and the house itself, three. This really is a great spot and our trip was fantastic.

Lovely location for a family holiday!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at Cedar View for 8 nights with 4 adults and 2 young kids, and enjoyed our time very much.

The house is in a gorgeous, quiet, forested area right on a tidal bay, which affords great privacy, beautiful views, and very easy access to all of the local attractions. It is literally a 5 minute walk (even with small kids and a stroller) to South Chesterman beach just across the highway, and a very short drive to town for all amenities.

The outside boardwalks are very well developed, and the hot tub and sauna both got a lot of use during our stay. The house itself is very functional, with 3 good sized bedrooms on the main floor, each with its own bathroom, which was great for being able to put little ones to bed early, and for privacy overall. The spacious living room was comfortable and the kitchen was fairly well stocked in terms of pots and pans and dishes (however, otherwise, there is only a bit of coffee and tea, sugar, salt and pepper). Things were quite clean and well maintained overall, however it might have been nice to have a dustbuster or vacuum available, since we were there for 8 days with little people and couldn't really clean the carpeted areas. The covered outside deck was just perfect for sitting outside in the rain, and for dance performances by our daughter. :)

The house is getting a bit old so the floor is very creaky (only an issue for us during kids' naps), the bath tub is quite well used, and there is another little building right on site that is home to the Tuff City Builders, so there was a bit of sawing/drilling/banging noise during the day when kids were sleeping. It wasn't overly disruptive, but would have been nice to know in advance.

The location is perfect for seeing everything in Tofino and Ucluelet! We ate at Shelter, The Schooner, Tacofino, Chocolate Tofino, Wildside Grill, Wolf in the Fog, Rhino, and the Pointe - all quite exceptional. We bought and cooked our own seafood from Trilogy and The Fish Store. We visited the botanical gardens, the Ukee aquarium (3 times), the playground in town, went paddle boarding at Mackenzie beach, enjoyed the Ancient Cedars Spa at the Wick, walked the Rain Forest Trail and played at Chesterman beach every day. My husband and I went for runs on the well maintained roadside path and on the beach - just beautiful!

Overall, we had a fantastic week at Cedar View.
