About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

This home has everything to make your Plum Island vacation the experience you want!

The house was completely renovated in 2012 with all modern amenities, comfortable furniture and tasteful decorations. Inside the home you will find a bright and sunny 3 season Sunporch, perfect for relaxing with your morning coffee or a good book. The first floor is an open concept living area with a living room, kitchen and dining area, and a bathroom with a custom tiled, walk-in shower. You will find wood floors, recessed lighting, granite counters, stainless appliances, a breakfast bar and full size washer and dryer. The kitchen is fully equipped with all your cooking needs, including a lobster pot! There is also wireless Internet, a flat screen tv, and blue-ray player.

The second floor has 4 bedrooms and a full bath. All bedrooms are sunny and roomy with wood floors and large closets with plenty of space to unpack and settle in. The first bedroom has a queen memory foam mattress. The second bedroom has a queen bed. The third has two twin beds. And the fourth bedroom has a daybed with a pop-up trundle underneath that can be used as either two more singles, or a queen if they are put together. This room can also be used as a sitting room with a second TV and views of the basin. The bathroom is large and has a bathtub with shower and granite counter on the sink. All bed linens and towels are provided. The house also has 2 zone central heating and cooling .

Outside the house, you will find 3 decks, one on the front and 2 on the back. The front deck is perfect for relaxing in the sun, furnished with rocking chairs. The back decks both have water views of the basin. The lower deck is equipped with a table for outdoor dining. The upper deck, furnished with a conversation set, is perfect for watching birds on the basin, the sunset, or star gazing at night. There is also a private outdoor shower with hot and cold water, and a gas grill for outdoor cooking.

You will have many options when venturing away from the house. The beach is a short 4 minute walk away. This beach, though public, is far enough away from any public parking that it is never crowded and feels quite private. The life-guard beach is about a ten minute walk away, or a 2 minute drive. The basin access is also minutes away and offers options for swimming, kayaking and fishing. The Parker Wildlife Reservation is less than a mile away and offers year-round hiking and birdwatching. Or, take a bike ride to the tip of the island and see the lighthouse. Add Mad Martha's Cafe, a block away, for breakfast or lunch, the Plum Island Grille for dinner, and a convenience store and liquor store in between, and you will never need to leave the island.

But, if you do choose to go off island, downtown Newburyport is only a ten minute drive away. Newburyport is a classic New England fishing village with quaint, narrow, cobblestone streets offering many dining and shopping options. From here, you also have the choice of many different water excursions. Newburyport has many events throughout the year, so be sure to check the city's website to see what may be happening while you are there.

In about one hour, you can get to downtown Boston either by car or commuter rail. Or, you could get to any number of other coastal villages like Gloucester. Rockport, Portsmith, York, Ogunquit or Kennebunkport. An hour and a half will get you to the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

Comfortable, clean and convenient family house

  • 5 of 5

We try to spend a week on Plum Island every summer to be close to my parents, who live in Newburyport and have a beach vacation at the same time. This was by far the family's favorite of all our rentals! With 3 adult children and a couple of their friends, we have decided that 2 bathrooms is a must, and the outdoor shower was a delightful added bonus. This year, my extended family was all in town for a family celebration and we were able to have several big family gatherings at the house. The kitchen is spacious, extremely well equipped, a pleasure to cook in and perfect for a big family. I loved having the family gather around the breakfast bar and nibble on appetizers as I prepared the meal. There are plenty of options for everyone to sit and eat or relax; there is a big table on the deck with a view of the harbor and for those who prefer, the screened in front porch is another perfect gathering place with its deep, comfy wicker furniture. The upper deck is great for watching sunsets or having morning coffee. This house truly does sleep 8 adults. All the beds are really comfortable, even the trundle bed in the 4th room, (which my full-grown son really appreciated after being stuck in a bunk bed or a rickety pull-out couch in other houses). Arlene was a pleasure to work with, responsive and accommodating. We also appreciated all the little extras Arlene adds to make sure her guests are comfortable such as candles, soap and even shampoo in the bathrooms, plenty of towels and nice linens, everything you could possibly need in the kitchen including supplies of paper goods, coffee and condiments. The outside grill is huge and works well and there is even beach gear; chairs, umbrellas and bags for your convenience. The only negative about this house was that we had to leave! We can't wait to come back!

Terrific House!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a great week at this house! It is spacious, modern, and tastefully decorated. The layout was comfortable and perfect for our needs. It is well-equipped with TV, cable, stereo, and lots of books and games for kids and adults (I especially enjoyed the Scrabble board J). The kitchen is great for cooking and entertaining and is well-stocked with just about anything you would need. We made frequent use of the indoor 3-season porch as well as the outdoor porches / decks at various times throughout the week. We enjoyed several family meals out on the back dining area, and also spent time out on the upper-level deck relaxing and enjoying the view of the basin.

The location is very convenient. It’s an easy walk to both the basin and the ocean beach, with multiple access paths to the latter directly across the main road. The street itself is quiet and peaceful, and the neighbors we encountered were friendly. In addition, this home’s owner was extremely prompt and helpful throughout the process, readily answering any questions we had in advance of our stay. Very much enjoyed this house. We hope to stay here again, and would gladly recommend to others.

Lovely Plum Island Beach House

  • 5 of 5

This was our 6th year on Plum Island, but our first year at this beach house, and this house is my favorite. It is tastefully decorated with all the amenities and has that homey feel to it. Aside from having plenty of towel, which is a must at a beach house, and on outdoor shower, another must at a beach house in my opinion, it has a lovely view of the basin while being a very short walk to the ocean side/beach. There were plenty of rooms and baths to accommodate our 4 teenagers and us while providing plenty of space and privacy for all. The older kids would be on the lower deck, while the younger teenagers were on the upper deck, while my husband and I enjoyed the front porch. The enclosed front room is lovely for playing games and lounging when you want to be out of the sun but still cozy. Arlene even remembers all the little touches like soap, paper products, basic condiments/spices and even shampoo. I can't say enough great things about this place. And when my daughter lost a sentimental necklace, Arlene retrieved it for us and mailed it to us. We're looking forward to returning. The only thing that would have made it perfect was if we could bring our dog with us, but we find that many places on Plum Island don't permit that.

Great beach house

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed on Plum Island for a number of years now and this is a great house. Clean and comfortable- easy to be in. Having four bedrooms was great for the kids to have their own room. So close to the beach and nice view of the basin. Really nice spot!

Wonderful Beach House Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, along with our 2-year old son, stayed here with his brother's family for the second year in a row. We love it! Very, very close to the beach, and the home is clean and roomy. The kids had their own rooms, so we didn't feel cramped at all. The front porch is a great place to chat and sip drinks after dinner. The kitchen is updated and stylish. We cannot wait to return next year!

Great Girls Weekend!

  • 5 of 5

Arlene and her beach house are fantastic! We had plenty of space and really enjoyed this beautifully decorated, very clean and comfortable beach house! It was the perfect place for a relaxing weekend with old friends. We loved everything, especially the front porch! Another plus was a great breakfast place, Mad Martha's, right up the street. Thanks Arlene!
