La Casita Roja - Great Rental

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at La Casita Roja from June 9-June 12. This was our first time renting a house for our family vacation. First of all I would like to mention that our stay was wonderful. Taylor was a very pleasant person and he was very attentive. He was also very fast in responding to any of our questions or concerns. The house was better then what I expected, we had enough room for all of our family to sleep in. Since La Casita Roja is located in downtown New Braunfels it is very close to everything. You can walk a block and there are a few eating places such as McAdoo's Seafood, Myron's Prime Steak, Calahans Pub and Pizza. There is also a bakery/pastry place called 2tarts Bakery like a block away, across from the house. If you walk a few more blocks you can get to Naegelin's Bakery "The oldest Bakery in Texas." And on that same street you will find El Tapatio Mexican Restaurant, which has some delicious authentic Mexican food with some homemade flour tortillas. There is also a Catholic Church located a block or so from the house. And let's not forget Schlitterbahn and Landa Park which are also close as well, they are within walking distance if you like walking. If you want to drive there it's like 2 minutes.

I really liked how besides the coffeemaker, toaster, and the can opener the kitchen has basically everything you need from cups, dishes, silverware, serving spoons, and cutting boards to pots, pans, grilling utensils and even a smores maker. We did grill one night and relaxed in the back patio making smores. Taylor supplies the grill just be sure to bring your own charcoal and lighter fluid. The neighborhood is very peaceful, there are some railroad tracks near by but you can barely hear the train when it passes by. The driveway can fit from 3 to 4 vehicles, depending on the size. One more important thing, there is a grocery store on San Antonio St., which is a few blocks away called "Arland's". And if you would like to go with a bigger grocery store, then H-E-B and Wal-Mart are located about 5 minutes away on Walnut St. and I-35. We were very pleased with our stay. After looking for a nice affordable place to rent who would allow us to have one extra person, since online most rentals stated that the maximum people allowed was 12. No one would allow us to have a party of 13 which is our 1 year old. Thankfully we inquired on La Casita Roja and Taylor was more then happy to welcome us into his home. We would surely stay here again.

Great location! Not so comfy futons.

  • 4 of 5

This house was perfect for myself and my group of 12 friends who stayed for one night while we went to Wurstfest. Best part about it was that we could walk to Wurstfest. It was a great size for our group and very reasonably priced! However, the 2 couples who had to sleep on the futons upstairs had a pretty bad night's sleep. All it would take to make this a 5 star house, is replacing the futon mattresses with new ones. They could feel the metal bars underneath them so hard that they felt like they were going to wake up with bruises. The floor would have been more comfortable to sleep on, but it was a little dusty up there, like it could use a good cleaning.

Excellent Location - Wonderful Host!

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 8 adults had a wonderful time staying at La Casita Roja. Taylor was very thorough and provided me with all of the details needed for our arrival/departure. It was very easy to find the house. The house is also conveniently located about 2 blocks from Texas Tubes! We enjoyed the luxury of the private backyard, grilled burgers on the charcoal grill, and the peaceful neighborhood.

There were plenty of beds, all of which had sheets/linens. The upstairs loft has a high functioning AC Unit that kept the guests sleeping up there nice and cool. My only recommendation is to bring additional blankets/pillows.

We cannot wait to return again next fall! Thanks for your outstanding hospitality, Taylor!

Pretty good for the price but not perfect.

  • 3 of 5

The house was pretty god for the price, but the A/C barely works down stairs, and the pull out couch along with the futons are so thin that they are unusable. I would suggest bringing air mattresses for anyone not in a bed. After the A/C had a full 24 hours to cool off, it wasn't too bad. Our first night didn't get below 78 degrees though.

This place needs a cleaning and exterminator for bugs.

  • 2 of 5

The owner of this place was very nice and welcoming, so I am not always sure this is a direct reflection on his part. He hires help and maybe needs to checkup on them. We liked the quaintness and the location, but it only has 1 double comfortable bed. There are 2 futons upstairs with un-washed sheets. Also one room in front with 2 twin beds that needed clean sheets. A broken pull-out couch, so we were all ready to get to the comforts of our own beds. I am well aware that there are critters, but there were mouse droppings in the cabinets along with spiders everywhere. On our last morning, we all had several bites and here comes the biggest centipede, so we decided to leave early. Not to mention, the ants all over the back porch area. They do have a washer and dryer and we gladly cleaned everything before using. They do have a/c, but not enough to facilitate an older un-insulated home in August. We finally got the air below 76 after 11pm at night. But all in all, when they get the kinks worked out, it will be nice. We have stayed in many locations, but this can and will be better with an exterminator and house-keeper. Might be fun for a party-crew, but a little dirty for a family.
