Charming Wine Country Getaway UntouchedBy Fires

Untouched by Northern California fires, our unique property is surrounded soaring pine trees and vineyards. A charming property with two suites, one upstairs with a living room with fireplace, kitchen, bath and two bedrooms, the other downstairs with one bedroom, bath and living room. Very private place with magical stars at night, large balconies and decks for entertaining, private paths for hiking our 17 acres across lands once occupied by Indians and now graced by bluebirds and hummingbirds and a seasonal creek. But while you are in solitude at home, you are only a stone's throw from the best restaurants, vineyards and spas of Napa and Sonoma. The closest town is St. Helena, fifteen minutes away coursing through some of the best Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards of Napa. Down the road, find Yountville (home of the French Laundry and many more amazing eateries) and Calistoga (think mud baths and cowboy ambience). You will be greated by our housekeeper and local wines we love, and lists of restaurants and fun things to do, from hiking to horsebackriding, golf, tennis, spas and ocean walks along the Pacific. We hope you have a magical stay!

Note: minimum 3 nights

About Pat Dowd

I am a writer and editor. This home has been a retreat for my family and friends. It is a very happy spot.

Pat Dowd purchased this house in 2006

Why Pat Dowd chose Sonoma County

We bought this house as a get-away while we lived in San Francisco. We now live in Boston, but adore our times in Napa/Sonoma. You will love it too!

What makes this house unique

Breath the air. Enjoy the fog trickling over the pine trees in the morning as the blue birds dart from pine to mazanita. Great hiking. A rushing river in winter. Irises in spring.Lavendar and blackberries in the summer. Brilliant stars at night. No matter the season, a cool evening that's perfect for a roaring fire. And the most amazing choice of restaurants and vineyards down the hill that you can believe. Also for sports lovers, great golf and tennis, horse-backing riding, swimming, spas.

The area is also rich with amazing, highly rated restaurants. Or simply buy local bread and cheese in the many marvelous delicacy shops and picnic by a stream or winery.

Great value and beautiful property!

  • 4 of 5

Owners were very generous and helpful throughout. Nice, clean home on a beautiful, secluded piece of land. Great value; would stay here again!

Great property, needs more updating

  • 3 of 5

We'd give it 2.5 stars if we could. A group of 4 of us stayed for a few days and had a great time, despite a few shortcomings. The house felt lived-in and was homey, like visiting your grandparents. It wasn't properly cleaned when we arrived, though hopefully that was an anomaly because their son had just stayed there. There was food rotting in the fridge, trash was not taken out, and the downstairs sleeper bed was pulled out.

It'd make a great stay if the owners fixed a few of the issues in the future.

- Very nice owner who was very accommodating

- Great house with lots of attractive outdoor seating and the wrap around patio doors were amazing

- Amazing sunset/valley view at the top of the property after a 1/4 mile hike

- Thoughtful amenities (e.g. new towels, bottled water, toilet paper, etc.)

- Stocked basics in the kitchen

- Close to some nice wineries, including Pride Mountain

- Road to house is VERY windy

- Mattresses are visibly lumpy and sunken; queen bed was literally unusable; bedding very old and uncomfortable

- Wi-fi did not work (missing a wireless router), neither did the TV upstairs

- No cell phone service

- House could use a deep cleaning
