Our visit to the Big Island was a great decision and we will be back!

  • 4 of 5

Staying in the Wilkinson house made our trip to Hawaii very special. It was well stocked and nicely maintained. The local geckos were also fun breakfast guests and provided extra entertainment. The views of the ocean from the hillside was fantastic and the local beach, Ho 'okena (about 6 miles away) was one of our favorites! We saw spinner dolphins everytime we went there, several turtles and the snorkeling was pretty good.

Staying away from the "hubbub" of Kona did not bother us, as we wanted to explore all points to the south towards Volcano Park. We did end up doing a lot of driving but we were prepared to do this on our first trip here and we do not regret doing this. It allowed us to see so much of this amazing and varied paradise. Thank you for sharing your house! The Dunnagan Family from Boise

LOVE LOVE LOVE Hawaii and this house.

  • 5 of 5

Our first visit to Hawaii was amazing and this house was a perfect quiet landing spot after a day of beaches and exploring. The kitchen has everything you need to prepare a meal and the set up of the house is perfect! Mornings on the upper deck has a great view of the ocean and fun with the gecko's, and the one evening (when we were actually home for sunset) we watched the sunset over the ocean...so pretty. Mornings on the lower patio were my favorite with a view of the scenery, the birds, the flowers AND the ocean. It was awesome for Tim and Tina to provide snorkel, beach gear and boogie boards, it was excellent having it all...we just kept it all in our vehicle so when we hit the beach we had all we needed right on hand. I jumped in the outdoor shower one evening and it was very refreshing and fun since I have never showered outside before. I hope we can go back some day and we will try to rent this home again. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!

We relaxed and enjoyed all of it!

The view was beautiful. The items left for us to use during our trip were so convenient. We felt right at home there. We love that part of the island with two step and kealakekua bay. Thank you!

A great getaway

  • 4 of 5

A lovely clean and well stocked rental. There was chairs and snorkel equipment and boogie boards fro the beach. Kitchen was well stocked with everything you need to cook with. Lots of towels and sheets. The house is well of the beaten track as you are 25 miles south of Kona. Every activity is a long drive. There nothing for kids to do around the property and no place even to walk. The closest beach is Hookena which is 7 miles away. It is a small beach but lovely. There were people who showed up unannounced a few times which was concerning. Overall a 10 for the cleanliness and a 4 for location.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and for staying with us. I would like to explain that the unannounced people were in fact the owners and our maintenance man who was repairing the entrance gate to the property. Mahalo

Comfy and just like home

  • 5 of 5

We (family of 4 with two grown children) spent 9 days on the Big island, using Tina's home as our base. The home was perfect for us! Plenty of room for 4 adults, including 3 bedrooms with flat screen TV's and plenty of closet space, 2 full baths (with hair dryers), 1/2 bath, washer and dryer, fully equipped kitchen (regular drip coffee maker NOT Kuerig - good to know when shopping for groceries), comfy living area with big couch that easily seated all 4 of us, and a wrap around lanai that affords a gorgeous view of the hills and ocean. Cool breezes kept us very comfortable at night. Avocado and orange trees on the property were a nice addition. There are two gates to go through to get into the property - the first requiring a code which opens electronically, and another that requires someone to get out of the car and lift a very heavy gate - was glad to have our adult son along for this, but it seems that this gate was "fixed" at the end of our stay with a wheel at the base that made the gate MUCH easier to open! The snorkeling and beach gear provided (including aqua shoes, chairs, beach towels and mats) were great to have and worked very well for our needs! A good thing to know is that this home is located south of Captain Cook, and makes for an approximate 30-40 minute drive on a winding road to reach Kona. IF you like to go back and forth to Kona for activities, dining, etc. it makes for a pretty long drive. We were fine with this as when we headed out for the day, we planned accordingly with a change of clothes etc. The good news is that this places you closer to Volcanoes National Park and the Hilo area than accommodations which are closer to the town of Kona. In all, I would highly recommend this home next time you are on the Big island!

Beautifully furnished home with a gorgeous view of the ocean!

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at this home! The place was well equipped from the kitchen to linens to beach gear. After a long day exploring places, it was a peaceful haven to come back to and relax. The sunsets were spectacular from both lanais and we enjoyed seeing the neon green geckos each morning.

We are from the tropics and didn't mind that the house had no A/C. It would have been helpful though to have standing fans in each bedroom to supplement the slow moving ceiling ones to circulate more air.
