About Sue Nilsson
I live in the NYC area, and am a short drive away. I am an avid traveler, enjoy photography, and like to capture the emotions and play of light in the moment a picture is taken. I also write and for my day job I work as an Executive Assistant.
Sue Nilsson purchased this Cottage in 2011
Why Sue Nilsson chose Monroe
This 1938 cottage captured my heart the moment I saw it. The deck and quiet setting are inspiring. It is comfortable, and welcoming. We spent three years updating the electricity, plumbing, and even added a carbon water filter to make sure water is pure. Stone and wood created a cozy rustic charm, with ample natural light
What makes this Cottage unique
This cottage provides easy access to anything any traveler might wish to do. And when all you want is a retreat from the hectic city life, it offers the serenity only a forest can provide.

Good Hudson Valley Location
Overall it was a pleasant cottage to stay a week and explore the Hudson Valley. My tall niece and daughter were able to share the bed and sleep in the loft just fine which was my main concern at booking. There was plenty in the area within 30-45 minutes to entertain teens (State Parks, Drive-In Theater, Splashdown Beach Waterpark, etc.). We took a long day trip into NYC using the Cordlandt Station which ran during nonpeak hours. Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty and the wax museum were all good attractions for teens. The wifi worked fine in the cottage but the girls tended to play board games, do crafts or watch dvd movies (on my daughter’s laptop) in the cottage for their downtime. The host was nice, easy to reach if necessary and provided lots of little extras.
Great Relaxing Stay
When my wife and I travel, we look for properties that are clean, quiet and comfortable. The little red cottage more than fit the bill for these qualities. I would highly recommend this property for those looking to get away for a few days and just relax!
Swedish Cottage in the Woods
Great little home in the woods. Very comfortable and modern, in a very European way. Will definitely come back.
The most adorable little cottage!
My husband and I have stayed here twice now, fall 2017 and fall 2018, and both times we loved it!....it’s a great little get away and has basically everything you need...the kitchen is really nice and has a gas stove (which we loved!)...and the bathroom and stone shower is super pleasant!....the whole house is decorated very charmingly and feels so cozy....you do have neighbors all around, but it is still very quiet and private.....and the drive there is very pretty and quite fun!..and the owner is really nice and considerate and great to work with!
Perfect place for a low key, quite getaway
Cute place in the woods
Enjoyed our brief stay. We pretty much only slept and showered at Sue's place, but that worked out well. It actually feels big for it's size.
Thank you! We are so glad you found the layout created the feeling of a larger of space. We thought hard about ensuring there were places for people to hang out separately from other guests, yet still be together. :)
The cottage is less than 20 minutes from shopping, wineries, hiking, biking and lakes where you can take your canoe or kayak or go swimming. It is located half way between Monroe, NY and Washingtonville, NY. It is also a 25 minute drive (about 16 miles) to West Point Military Academy.
