About the property

A/C, 4 BR + Sleeping Porch, 3.5 BA, (Sleeps 11-14)

Welcome to Snug Harbor! This is a roomy, 4-bedroom, 3.5 bath year-round cottage home. It is quietly situated in Macatawa Park. Snug Harbor cottage is a leisurely 5 minute walk thru the historic park to Lake Michigan and Big Red Lighthouse. During the peak summer weeks, late June thru the 3rd week of August, we rent from Saturday to Saturday only.

This vacation home was totally renovated and completed in June, 2012. Enter the enclosed front porch, a great place for you to relax and play games on warm summer evenings. You will see the open concept kitchen/dining area/living room through the front door, along with a half bath, and the original 100 + year old open stairway. The master bedroom, with a queen bed, is on the main floor with its own private bathroom. Upstairs are two more queen (plus single bed) bedrooms, and a sleeping porch as well, equipped with a futon; perfect for your kids or yourselves on a warm summer evening. There is also a roomy bath (with a tub/shower) on this upper floor. Downstairs is a 4th queen (plus single bed) bedroom, a large family room (with a full fold-out couch) with an additional space for the kids to play or just hang out. There is another roomy bath (with another tub/shower) on this level as well. The laundry room is also located on this floor. You will stay cool in the central a/c. There is a pack-n-play, booster with tray, and baby gate available for your young ones upon request.

Have a large group, or love cottaging with family and friends, but need your own space? Right next door to Snug Harbor is Green Leaf, another (sleeps 6-8 - vrbo listing #399200) family-owned vacation home for those special people to rent during the same week!! Both vacation homes are pictured in one of the photos.

There is room in the shaded yard for your kids to run and play. There is a deck out back with a gas grill perfect for grilling that fresh lake-caught fish or steak. Just bring your own food - the kitchen will be all set for you to move right in. Linens and towels are also provided - just bring your own beach towels. Cable and wireless internet are provided for you. Sorry, no pets or smoking at Snug Harbor. Parking is available for 3 cars at cottage.

There's loads of fun awaiting all of you. Charter a boat for some big lake fishing, boogie board on the Lake Michigan waves, or fish off the pier. You can toss a football in the clean water, or just relax at the beautiful, private sandy beach. Lake Michigan sunsets are a stunning sight. Step onto one of the many paths close to the cottage for a relaxed walk or bike ride in any direction. There are eateries, a great grocery store, etc., along scenic South Shore Drive and beyond.

Holland has lots to offer the vacationer - miles and miles of hiking and biking paths, golf, the friendly Farmer's Market held on Wednesday and Saturday, a quaint and historic downtown for relaxed shopping, and casual and fine dining. Concerts at Kollen Park in summertime make for great family fun. Nearby Saugatuck (15 minute drive south) and Grand Haven (30 minutes north) are also fun shopping destinations along Lake Michigan.

We welcome monthly renters in the off-season from after Labor Day thru Memorial Day. We do require a 3 month minimum rental. Rent is $1,600 per month, with one month's security deposit. Renter is responsible for gas, electric, water and phone/internet service. Please contact us for any additional information.

About Jane Brennan Rosie

I lived in this house for the first ten years of my life. Part of the living room was once an enclosed porch that was used as the post office for Macatawa. My grandmother was the postmaster, and used to operate the post office for the summer cottagers and winter residents right there out of her home in the 1930's. My father was born in one of the upstairs bedrooms. The house was passed down to my father in the late 1940's, and remains in our family. It has been vacant since my childhood, and was totally renovated - literally from the foundation up - in 2012. We tried to keep some of the original touches in the house, even as decorator pieces for your enjoyment, though all the comforts of home are there.

We wanted to invite others to experience the great location and idyllic setting I had as a kid. It was a wonderful experience growing up in Macatawa Park. I have great memories of my childhood there. It remains very much the same as when I grew up in the 1950's.

Jane Brennan Rosie purchased this house in 1920

Why Jane Brennan Rosie chose Holland

I am the third generation owner of this property. My family history is very important to me, and this cottage and my memories of growing up in this house with my family are very close to my heart.

What makes this house unique

There is a photo in the house showing you my family and me at Christmas time right in the living room, with the original stairway behind the tree.

The house is located in a very quiet spot in Macatawa Park. It is very peaceful at the house, with deer and wildlife wandering quite freely during their feeding times.

The perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a great weekend getaway at Snug Harbor. The location is eveything you could ask for. Great golf courses nearby, fishing spots, and an awesome wide open private beach. Jane and Rosie were very friendly and helpful through the whole process of renting from them. All ten adults had a great time and fit comfortably in the house. Hoping to book again sometime again!

Owner's Response: We truly enjoyed having Sam and his group rent from us. Right from the beginning, it was easy to tell these were young, responsible adults who respected our property, and we were happy to rent to them. We very much appreciated all our dealings with them, and hope they return soon.

Must Stay!!

  • 5 of 5

the pictures do not do this place justice!! it is in incredible! perfectly kept, beautifully decorated and furnished with everything you would possibly need for your stay! I brought a group of twelve people and we had plenty of room. Jane met us at the rental upon arrival and showed us around and told us everything we would need know. the marina is just a few steps away and is gorgeous and the private beach is just a short walk but is made mucch easier with the beach wagon they provide with chairs, boogie boards, etc. I could go on for days about this place but just suffice it to say that if you want to deal with great people and stay in a great place then Snug Harbor and Don and Jane Rosie are exactly what you are looking for!!!

Owner's Response: With great renters like we have, we really enjoy what we do. We are always happy folks like Snug Harbor (we have heard the pictures do not do it justice many times), and respect and take care of the property like it was their own, all the while enjoying all the fun, exciting things there are to do at Macatawa Park and Holland, Michigan. We hope these renters return! They took great care of the place.
