About the property

A/C, 4 BR + Sleeping Porch, 3.5 BA, (Sleeps 11-14)

Welcome to Snug Harbor! This is a roomy, 4-bedroom, 3.5 bath cottage home. It is quietly situated in Macatawa Park. Snug Harbor cottage is a leisurely 5 minute walk thru the historic park to Lake Michigan and Big Red Lighthouse. During the peak summer weeks, mid-June thru the end of August, we rent from Saturday to Saturday only.

This vacation home was totally renovated and completed in June, 2012. Enter the enclosed front porch, a great place for you to relax and play games on warm summer evenings. You will see the open concept kitchen/dining area/living room through the front door, along with a half bath, and the original open stairway over 100 years old. The master bedroom, with a queen bed, is on the main floor with your own private bathroom. Upstairs are two more queen (plus single bed) bedrooms, plus a sleeping porch as well, equipped with a futon; perfect for your kids or yourselves on a warm summer evening. There is also a roomy bath on this upper floor. Downstairs is a 4th queen (plus single bed) bedroom, a large family room (with a full fold-out couch) with an additional space for the kids to play or just hang out. There is another roomy bath on this level as well. The laundry room is also located on this floor. You will stay cool in the central a/c. There is a pack-n-play, booster with tray, and baby gate available for your young ones upon request.

Have a large group, or love cottaging with family and friends, but need your own space? Right next door to Snug Harbor is Green Leaf, another (sleeps 6-8 - vrbo listing #399200) family-owned vacation home for those special people to rent during the same week!! Both vacation homes are pictured in one of the photos.

There is room in the shaded yard for your kids to run and play. There is a deck out back with a gas grill perfect for grilling that fresh lake-caught fish or steak. Just bring your own food - the kitchen will be all set for you to move right in. Linens and towels are also provided - just bring your own beach towels. Cable and wifi are provided for you. Sorry, no pets or smoking at Snug Harbor. Parking is available for 3 cars at cottage.

There's loads of fun awaiting all of you. Charter a boat for some big lake fishing, boogie board on the Lake Michigan waves, or fish off the pier. You can toss a football in the clean water, or just relax at the beautiful, privatet sandy beach. Lake Michigan sunsets are a stunning sight. Step onto one of the many paths 200 feet from the cottage for a relaxed walk or bike ride in any direction. There are eateries, a great grocery store, etc., along scenic South Shore Drive and beyond.

Holland has lots to offer the vacationer - miles and miles of hiking and biking paths, golf, the friendly Farmer's Market held on Wednesday and Saturday, a quaint and historic downtown for relaxed shopping, and casual and fine dining. Concerts at Kollen Park in summertime make for great family fun. Nearby Saugatuck (15 minute drive south) and Grand Haven (30 minutes north) are also fun shopping destinations along Lake Michigan.

We welcome monthly renters in the off-season from after Labor Day thru Memorial Day. We do require a 3 month minimum rental. Rent is $1,500 per month, with one month's security deposit. Renter is responsible for gas, electric, water and phone/internet service. Please contact us for any additional information.

About Jane Brennan Rosie

I lived in this house for the first ten years of my life. Part of the living room was once an enclosed porch that was used as the post office for Macatawa. My grandmother was the postmaster, and used to operate the post office for the summer cottagers and winter residents right there out of her home. My father was born in one of the upstairs bedrooms. The house was passed down to my father in the late 1940's, and remains in our family. It has beenvacant since my childhood, and was totally renovated - literally from the foundation up - in 2012. We tried to keep some of the original touches in the house, even as decorator pieces, for your enjoyment, though all the comforts of home are there.

We wanted to invite others to experience the great location and idyllic setting I did as a kid. It was a wonderful experience growing up in Macatawa Park. I have great memories of my childhood there. It remains very much the same as when I grew up in the 1950's.

Must Stay!!

  • 5 of 5

the pictures do not do this place justice!! it is in incredible! perfectly kept, beautifully decorated and furnished with everything you would possibly need for your stay! I brought a group of twelve people and we had plenty of room. Jane met us at the rental upon arrival and showed us around and told us everything we would need know. the marina is just a few steps away and is gorgeous and the private beach is just a short walk but is made mucch easier with the beach wagon they provide with chairs, boogie boards, etc. I could go on for days about this place but just suffice it to say that if you want to deal with great people and stay in a great place then Snug Harbor and Don and Jane Rosie are exactly what you are looking for!!!

Owner's Response: With great renters like we have, we really enjoy what we do. We are always happy folks like Snug Harbor (we have heard the pictures do not do it justice many times), and respect and take care of the property like it was their own, all the while enjoying all the fun, exciting things there are to do at Macatawa Park and Holland, Michigan. We hope these renters return! They took great care of the place.

Great House!!!

  • 5 of 5

The house is wonderful- newly updated, and you can tell the owner's took pride in the remodel.

Great location- a very peaceful setting next to a tennis court, lots of tree, and Lake Macatawa.

Wonderful owners- very easy to work with, and great people.

If there is a drawback, it would be parking. There are 3 spots available, and no more. We had several cars staying at the house, and we had to park the other cars far away. The house is near the water, so parking spaces are a premium.

I would absolutely recommend this house!

Sailors' Delight

  • 5 of 5

Very livable space for a group with kids; it has a large open area downstairs for them to hang out and you do not feel like you are on top of one another. Perfect if you will be using the yacht club, because its close enough for kids to dash back if they have forgotten something. The kitchen is new and well stocked and thoughtfully outfitted with spice staples that are ridiculous to buy when you are out of town. Bathrooms are also new. Everything is spotless. Grill provided and it works nicely. Owners really want you to have a good time and provide plenty of local information. You can walk to dinner at Pipers, which is a lovely restaurant with everything from good pizza to outstanding seafood and steaks. Try the pear martini.

While its not on the beach, there is a path within sight of the front door that will lead you there, or you can head around the other way. Macatawa is a very wonderful spot and you should be close to the beach if you can. Sunsets are amazing.

Absolutely loved staying here. Very clean, well furnished, beautifully maintained and the owners are lovely! They helped me with the shipment of some stuff and went out of their way to accommodate us. The location was absolutely perfect for our needs and THREE full bathrooms!

Family Vacation in Holland

  • 5 of 5

We so enjoyed our stay at Snug Harbor. There were 14 of us at one point during the week and we did not feel crowded at all. Don and Jane are wonderful owners, and the house is rich with history. We loved that it was a short walk to the beach and some amazing sunsets. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed. The house was very clean when we checked in, and the owners put a lot of time and money into the renovation. It is apparent in all the fixtures and amenities. I would certainly recommend renting from the Rosies, and we look forward to a return visit to Snug Harbor in 2014.

Lovingly restored Macatawa Park Charmer

  • 5 of 5

Family and friends stayed here for two weeks summer 2012. We had 5 adults and 6 kids and had plenty of beds and beautiful baths to accommodate our large group. The kitchen and back porch were amazing places to cook and enjoy our meals. The beach at Macatawa is amazing! We felt totally comfortable riding bikes, playing volleyball, flying kites and swimming in beautiful Lake Michigan. This cottage is the perfect blend of style and charm from its history with modern conveniences like AC and luxury showers and towels! Owners are gems too!
