We have been coming to Anguilla for 25 years, after promising ourselves that we would see every island in the Caribbean. We did see many, but when we arrived on Anguilla for the first time we realized that we had found our 'island dream'. We were used to island living and had a home on Nantucket at the time. We relocated to Anguilla and have never looked back! We have been in the restaurant business, both in Nantucket and Connecticut and we enjoy nothing better than having a fine meal with a wonderful wine, sitting on our pool deck with the many-hued ocean as our back yard. We love sharing our island home with those who feel the same way about Anguilla as we do.
The Owner purchased this villa in 2010
Anguilla is our favorite of all the islands of the Caribbean and its people are the most welcoming. We love the sense of peace and tranquility that we find on this island, not to mention the fabulous beaches, great restaurants and laid-back atmosphere. We especially love the little micro-climate we have at Elsie Bay. This little bay is located on the Caribbean side of the island and the trade winds can be felt here all year round. We rarely have to use air conditioning in the summer because we have naturally cooling breezes that keep us comfortable. Elsie Bay is in the center of the island and convenient to both the west end and the east end. We love it here!

My family and I spent eleven nights at Moonrise in December. We can't wait to return again, this will be our "home" away from home for future visits to the island. We were a party of four adults and two children. We rented a car through Neville, whom the owner had suggested and he welcomed us upon arrival with our rental. We also ordered wine and rum from Nathalie's Wine Shop and had it delivered to the house prior to arrival. The girls took care of us by supplying the kitchen with requested items for the first night. The villa is beautiful. Very well appointed and the kitchen is well equipped. My husband is a chef so we felt right at home while we cooked the nights and days we were not out and about. The home is a perfect size, very open and spacious with stunning views of the ocean. The two masters are on different ends of the house each with their own balcony, so we were still able to sustain privacy, and the room with two twin beds worked out perfectly for our children. While not directly on the beach, there is small little beach you can walk to. We liked that we could get into the car and visit different beaches throughout our stay, and the car ride was never more that ten to fifteen minutes, depending on what side of the island you were going to. The pool was fantastic to come home to, and the view is unbeatable. Make it a point to wake up early and stare at the sunrise, absolutely gorgeous. We enjoyed the seclusion and serenity of this home. Anguilla really was the perfect vacation for us. The restaurants are amazing, but we were also happy to stay and cook at home. We visited Rainbow Farms for local produce, and visited the Fishery for fresh fish. If you go to Rainbow, buy some arugula, it will be the best lettuce you have ever eaten. The owner is very accommodating, and easy to stay in touch with and really helped make our stay the best. We received an information packet with suggestions from her, and we would also recommend cocktails at the Viceroy! We spent a couple days at Blanchard's beach shack for lunch, and had dinner at Veya, Straw Hat, Hibernia. We also lunched at the Malliouhana, as well as having spa treatments there. We rented a catamaran SAIL CHOCOLAT, through a woman Jaquie and her husband who own Ripples, and sailed to Prickly Pear, which was beautiful, and for a private charter, the price really was great. We took a day and went to Scilly Cay and had a great lobster lunch.
We recently spent a week at Moonrise Villa on peaceful Elsie bay in Anguilla. This tastefully designed and decorated villa with its understated elegance, stunning ocean views, private beach, impeccably decorated home, and spectacular site overlooking the sea affords its guests a little slice of paradise. The architecture of Moonrise Villa is designed to immerse you in the beauty of the natural setting while avoiding ostentation. We were struck by the way in which a minimalist modern design blended with traditional Anguillian forms. Artful touches of ornament, like the beautiful paintings by local artists, complement the clean lines of the interior. As we entered the Villa, a breath-taking vista onto the sea and the horizon beyond opened up before us. The floor-to-ceiling doors which open onto the spacious patio and pool area can be folded back completely so that the living space flows into the open air. Each master bedroom suite has windows that frame a view of the sea, a small patio and garden with lovely flowering plantings, and a private outdoor shower. It was heavenly awakening to the rising sun and sitting on the patio immediately outside the bedroom to catch a glimpse of the majestic great white heron who nests nearby and skims the sea for his morning meal.
The Villa takes full advantage of the natural environment by using shuttered windows and doors strategically placed to maximize cross-ventilation so the prevailing winds keep the inside cool and comfortable. We never had to use the air conditioning, and we could regulate the shutters to allow as much natural light in as we needed during the day. We were pleased that we could minimize our carbon footprint because of these sustainable design features.
The patio and pool area are spacious, and the covered dining area allowed for outdoor meals, rain or shine. Though the pool is lovely and the small private beach is a short walk or swim away, we couldn’t resist the allure of the many beaches that are just a short drive from the Villa. We went to a different beach every day, each one more beautiful than the last, and there are many others close by that we will definitely try next time we stay at Moonrise Villa. We could not have been more thrilled with our stay at this tastefully appointed home, set respectfully in its stunning natural environment. The week flew by, and we can’t wait to return to Moonrise Villa so we can luxuriate once again in this little slice of paradise.
After traveling throughout Mexico and most of the Caribbean over the years I thought I had seen the most beautiful beaches and experienced what a true vacation was…that all changed once I stayed in Anguilla at Moonrise Villa. The experience really begins once you step aboard the boat that takes you from St. Martin to Anguilla when you can actually feel the stresses of everyday life fly away as you cruise the beautiful ocean. Anguilla is serene and beautiful but it also has amazing restaurants, you have to try Picante for incredible Mexican food and Geraud’s Bakery for the best croissants I have ever had! We went to a different beach every day and each was somehow more beautiful then the next but the trip really wouldn’t have been the same without Moonrise Villa on Elsie Bay.
Every morning we were torn on whether to visit one of the peaceful, gorgeous beaches with crystal blue water and white sand or to stay and enjoy all that Moonrise Villa had to offer. The view is breathtaking and it is the first thing you see as you enter the Villa. The Villa is quite spacious and the rooms provide a perfect amount of privacy. Our room had our own private patio to enjoy a morning cup of coffee while gazing at the ocean view surrounded by lush gardens. I could spend hours at the pool but really enjoyed the very secluded beach right in front of the Villa! I can’t recommend Moonrise Villa enough and although our trip was with two other couples I think it would be a wonderful place to bring the whole family. Moonrise Villa is really a home away from home. It is very clean, with comfortable beds, beautiful bathrooms and truly spectacular sunsets. Already planning our next trip!
We spent two weeks in March at Moonrise Villa on Anguilla and we couldn't have been happier.
We have visited the island several times before, but our stay at Moonrise was by far the best of all. We were immediately awed by the incredible view of the ocean that greeted us as we walked in the front door - there are ocean views from every room, as well as the bedrooms.
We spent our time lazing on the very private pool deck and our friends enjoyed the great snorkeling in gorgeous bay, which was easily accessible from the property down a set of stairs (there is a small dock and stairs that lead into the water). The gardens are lovely as well, with beautiful flowers and birds. We met the groundskeeper, George, who gave us tons of helpful information about the island.
The house was always cool which we really appreciated and the housekeepers, Julie and her sister, were friendly and very helpful if we needed anything. The kitchen was well stocked and there were herbs growing in a garden on the pool deck. All of the bedrooms were quite large and the bathrooms were airy, each with its own outdoor shower garden which we used every day. The decor was simple but very attractive with lots of beautiful paintings and antiques.
We found a local restaurant on the sea, an easy walk from the villa - a great place if you don't feel like driving.
We loved the fact that we could swim or walk over to the little private beach across the bay but we also spent many days at the beautiful long beaches for which Anguilla is famous. Don't miss Shoal Bay East, Shoal Bay West, Meads Bay and Rendezvous Bay. (only a few - there are several others!) Rendezvous Bay is our favorite!
We love Anguilla and now we have found the perfect peaceful villa from which to enjoy the Anguilla experience.
We stayed at Moonrise Villa for a week and were thrilled by our experience. The pictures on the website do not do justice to the villa itself or the spectacular view. As much as we enjoyed the stunning beaches of Anguilla, it was difficult to tear ourselves away from the villa, the sparkling pool and the beautiful view. We spent several afternoons enjoying the exquisite little private beach directly across the bay where we had the beach all to ourselves!
We're not really cooks so we didn't use the kitchen too much although it seems very well appointed. The restaurants on the island are very good and we tried several and enjoyed them all. (There are no restaurants within walking distance to the villa so you would need a car if you choose to stay there.) We also loved our outdoor bathroom with its pretty garden- very romantic! The house was pleasantly cool, with beautiful wooden louvers that allow the ample breeze to flow through the whole property. Even in June we didn't need air conditioning although it's available in all the bedrooms.
There are two housekeepers who came in every day and were very sweet and helpful as was the rest of the staff. We felt very well taken care of, from the beautiful bed linens and towels ( the large bath-sheet size which we really loved) to the local cell phone that was there for our use while we were there.
We can't wait to return to Moonrise next year.
