The Rippling Creek Haven has been a popular cabin rental since the late 1990's. In the winter of 2012, the owners built an addition to this half log sided cabin. The addition now provides for 3 separate bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The old living room area expanded the existing kitchen and allowed for a larger dining area.

The cabin now has 2 bedrooms on the main floor, each with a queen bed. The main floor also has the kitchen, dining area, full bathroom with laundry, and new living room with a gas log fireplace. The addition on the second floor includes a bedroom with a king size bed, a small loft overlooking the fireplace with a futon sleeper and a bathroom with shower. The pre-existing loft prior to the addition has 2 queen beds. This cabin has a wall AC unit in the loft and one in the living room, satellite TV and internet access. The deck has outdoor seating and a table as well as a gas grill and a private hot tub.

NEW IN 2015: A gas fire pit with seating has been added to the back yard, near the hot tub. Even during high fire danger, the gas-fired pit is permitted for use, while wood burning pits are banned. Guest will need to provide their own one pound propane tanks for the pit. Disposable tanks can be purchased at the local grocery and hardware stores. Located 4 miles west of Hill City, Rippling Creek Haven offers direct access to the Mickelson Trail, a hiking/biking and horseback riding trail. There is a catch & release wet weather stream on the property and it is near numerous mountain lakes for catch & keep fishing. Centrally located in the Black Hills, this cabin offers a quick fifteen to twenty minute trip to all the major Black Hills attractions including Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Monument, Custer State Park , Needles Highway and many more tourist favorites.

Half log pine interior and exterior. Direct access to hiking/biking trail. In a valley with forested views. Within 15 minutes to Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Monument, Custer State Park and all major attractions in the Central Black Hills.

This Cabin exceeded our expectations! A perfect respite after long days of seeing all the Black Hills has to offer. Heart of the Hills Vacation were wonderful, and very accommodating. I will recommend to all of my friends and family. This cabin was a perfect location in a darling town. The beds were super comfortable and we all woke up each morning saying want a great night sleep we had! Very, Very clean and roomy. Felt so lucky to have found such a perfect place.

Clean and spacious!

  • 4 of 5

This home was the perfect size for the 12 of us on our mini-family reunion! We had a variety of family sizes and age ranges, and there was plenty of room to spread out, to eat at the kitchen table, and for each family to have their own space. The location was excellent, and it was peaceful. We had an issue with internet service the first day, and the owner was quick to answer our questions, explain that it was a incidence of a provider issue in the area, and then called us Saturday morning to make sure our internet was working as theirs had turned on. Perfect service and helpfulness!

Family Time!

  • 5 of 5

Our family wanted to express our appreciation to your office and staff. We so enjoyed our week in the Rippling Creek Haven cabin. It was just the right size and fit our needs so well. The kitchen and living areas were so roomy and comfortable. Your flexibility in letting us use the bedrooms and not the loft was the perfect idea.

I think I mentioned that this was our first trip with married adult children. The three bedrooms helped make this the perfect mix of family time and privacy.

Your office was patient with us as we chose the cabin and you answered our questions honestly.

We all wanted to let you know that we loved our time in the cabin and appreciated your office and staff as well. We would recommend you to our friends if they ever decide to travel out your way.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your kind words! What a nice way to start off our busy season. We will be sure to show your message to all of our staff. The owners have put a lot of work in to making the cabin just the way you described it. We look forward to having you back some day. Marcia

Wonderful getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful 9 day hunting/Thanksgiving vacation with 3 generations from 3 states. We had everything we needed plus we enjoyed the fireplace every evening. The dishwasher is a big plus for the females. We've been hunting in the Hills for 40 years and this is the nicest place we've had. Grandma earned lots of brownie points with this cabin. We're looking forward to next year.

Owner's Response: Thanks for discovering the Rippling Creek Haven! It is a spacious cabin for a group of 10-12 people and the dining area/kitchen accommodates everyone for meal times. We host several people who have come to the Hills hunting over the years, and as time goes on so many are needing the comforts of a home such as this! We look forward to your stay next year.

Family Reunion

  • 4 of 5

We had a family reunion of eleven people ranging in age from 12 to 75 from Connecticut, Iowa, Washington DC, Canada and Rapid City. We were able to accommodate everyone with a bed (one person slept on the hideabed in the living room). Beds were comfortable. The two loft queen beds and the hideabed are in the traffic pattern from a bedroom, not as private as a bedroom. One of our members has a mobility problem, and he and his wife slept in the downstairs bedroom next to the bath/laundry. The unit is not wheelchair accessible, but he was able to climb the few steps into the house. The stairs to the upstairs are fairly steep, so it's best to assign the king sized bedroom and the two loft queen sized beds to those with good mobility. The 12-44 age group enjoyed bicycling the Mickelson trail, riding from Crazy Horse down to Hill City. We used the hot tub a couple of times. (We had some cool and rainy weather, so weren't outside as much as we had hoped.) The cookware and appliances were adequate for our "hands on" cooking style. Location was great- easy to get to Hill City, Custer State Park, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse etc. Staff checked on the hot tub every day, and were helpful when we had questions. Cell phone reception was spotty, so we used the land line to make reservations and local calls. Internet service was adequate (a little slow, but we were on vacation!).

Black Hills Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed our time at this cabin! Plenty of room for all of us (3 adults and 6 children). Liked getting to see the horses go by each day and listening to the brook at night. Close to major Black Hills sites. Would have been nice to have a fire pit outside as other cabins nearby did.
