The 400+ sq. ft. deck provides an additional large lounging/meeting space and covered porches in both front and back has nooks and lovely views of fields and forest. The broad, flat meadow provides ample space for a large tent. We can coordinate tent rental or put you in touch with local rental agencies.

We have access to a lovely swimming hole, mostly waist-deep with a deeper area beneath a small cascading waterfall. The meadow provides ample space for field games. There is a stone fire circle and easy access to wood for bonfires. We are located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains so there are many options for day-hikes. The James and Rockfish rivers are nearby for fishing, rafting, tubing and canoeing.

Our facility is ADA compliant with a concrete parking pad, sidewalk, wheelchair ramp and wheelchair accessible bathroom with appropriate fixtures and a shower chair.

This renovated farmhouse is loaded with character.- awesome for those looking for something unique

  • 5 of 5

Five families stayed here for a UVA game. Great location- away from it all but just a short drive to Charlottesville. The house is old but we ended up loving all its quirks ( squeaky pine floors, high and low ceilings, wooden beams, train tracks just off the property). We had the best time enjoying our evenings by the fire pit and breakfast on the deck. The kids (and quite honestly- the adults too) loved running up the road to chase the train when we heard it coming in the distance. We couldn't get over the number of beds in the house - a great set up for a large group like ours. Deborah was wonderful to work with throughout the whole process and we are hoping to come back again soon.

Amazing weekend getaway for a large group

  • 5 of 5

I recently stayed at Wayside with 19 of my friends for a weekend getaway for New Years Eve and everyone had a wonderful time. Deborah was so accommodating and helpful in the weeks leading up to our trip--to everything from things to do in the area to ensuring that there was lighter fluid and coal for the grill. We chose to do a winery and brewery tour on day one adn the location was perfect--it was about a 25 minute drive to our first stop (Veritas Vineyards) and another 25 minutes to get home from the last stop on our tour (Devil's Backbone Brewery). The second day some people went to wintergreen (about 40 minutes away) and others explored other breweries/restaurants. The space was great to accomodate such a large group--especially the kitchen and donwstairs area which is where we spent the majority of our time in the house. We were able to cook for 20 people easily and the house comes stocked with many of the supplies you need (towels, sheets, kitchen ware, toilet paper, etc.). We all fell in love with the house and its quirks and are already trying to plan a visit for next year!

Amazing house full of character

  • 5 of 5

The house is situated on a beautiful lot which backs up to trees. The yard was perfect for a bonfire, and we made great use of the supplies Deborah left for us. The layout of the house works very well for large groups. I seriously fell in love with the claw foot bathtub! The outdoor showers are a great addition and even in November the water was warm. The well apppinted kitchen was great for our group. Definitely a 5 star stay! Thank you Deborah and Wayside Center!

Beautiful house and property, Excellent customer service!

  • 5 of 5

Five stars for a GREAT venue! We rented the Wayside Center to house dancers attending the Dancing Leaves Contra Dance Festival in Nelson County. As co-chair of the festival I found the Wayside Center staff a joy to work with and both professional and helpful. Our dancers who stayed had nothing but wonderful things to say about the experience. So many retreat houses or camps do not provide bedding and towels, nor have a beautiful kitchen to have group meals so our dancers felt spoiled with these features. The 200 year old farmhouse is lovely and the property is stunning. We had dancers stay in the house and others who camped in the beautiful pasture and loved using the outdoor showers. I highly recommend the Wayside Center!

Amazing home for a large group!

  • 5 of 5

I couldn't have asked for a better house for my large group labor day trip. House has eclectic and charming decor and furniture, PLENTY of seating and dining ware for 24+ people, and great shared spaces (e.g., two living rooms, outdoor deck, fire pit, indoor dining room and large kitchen). Just be aware that there is only one shower, but even that one works REALLY well. Deborah was courteous and responsive, so definitely worth a trip out to Faber!
