Città del Vaticano, Vatican City, is the smallest Country in the world as it's Basilica, San Pietro, is the biggest and towering. They are pratically across the street and so are the Vatican Museums with Michelangelo masterpiece, the Sistine Chapel.
From San Pietro, walking through Via della Conciliazione, few hundred meters, there is Castel Sant'Angelo.
Built in 123 d.c, as a Mausoleum for the Emperor Adriano and his family, the castle went through continuous changes and developments, going from mausoleum to defensive post, from obscure prison to today the imponent building showing in the severe spaces, the massive walls , the frescoes in the big rooms and telling the
stories of the Eternal City. It's destiny is of been the oldest and constant historical and artistic teller in Rome's panorama.
From the Castle, after crossing the bridge Ponte dell'Angelo on the Tiber river, you are in Piazza Navona, the Pantheon .
Campo dei Fiori, Trevi Fountain and all Baroque and Renessaince beauties.
In the apartment there are maps of the City and a list of reccomandations.
I'm Raffaella, I'm 39 years old and I live near Milan since I was married.
I lived in this apartment in all my youth and I think this is a really nice place, comfortable, central and quiet.
When you'll arrive, you''ll find to welcome you Clara, and, as you will see, she is a special person!
After a long day of traveling we arrived at our place, which was disgusting. It did not look like the place we saw in the photos. I definitely felt like it was bait and switch. It was very dirty. There was a light next to my head near the bed that was caked with filth and dust. An outlet was hanging out of the wall, which is a fire hazard. We had a broken shower head that did not get fixed until we called again about it. I would not even sit on the couch because it just looked so disgusting that I thought I would catch some bugs from it. When we arrived we couldn't even take a hot shower because they had just turned on the hot water tank. There were scuff marks on many of the walls. The beds were horrible. I don't even think some of them were regular mattresses. One of our keys for the gate did not work and when I told the owner she told me to go to the locksmith up the street and get a new one made. Never offered to do it for us. I am not used to staying in such poor conditions when I am on vacation. This is the first time I used Home Away and I do not intend to use them again or ever recommend them. We spent a lot of money for a horrible place. The 5 star reviews are very misleading for this property. The location was good, but that was about it!
An excellent property. Convenient location. Clean, comfortable, well-appointed. We could not have asked for a better place to stay for our time in Rome. Very secure feeling and very friendly atmosphere. Good restaurants right at the gate. Would definitely recommend this property and would readily revisit it ourselves. The pictures represent it exactly as it is ... lovely and charming.
We stayed 4 days in September 2013. The apartment was just as shown in the photographs. The apartment is quite large (kitchen is a bit small), Very clean, comfortable and secure ... Wifi worked well. Clara arranged for a driver to pick us up from the airport and bring us to the apartment (gave us a bit of a tour along the way).
The location was great ... very close to the Vatican museums and Saint Peter's Square. Buses and the metro are close also. There is a small restaurant below the apartment where we bought our croissant and latte for breakfast each day. There are many restaurants in the area (Ragno D'Oro was our favorite) and there are grocery stores etc very close by. We felt very safe walking in the area, even late in the evening.
The streets can be a bit noisy (but hey ... What do you expect? it's Rome!). We are very happy to recommend this apartment!
We stayed in 4 apartments during our trip to Europe and this was clearly the best. The apartment was very convenient (5 minutes from St Peters), spacious, clean, and well furnished. We were 6 of us (5 adults and a child) and we had a very comfortable stay. There were several restaurants, many stores, and a super market close by. We were withing 15 minutes walking distance to several landmarks. The was a metro station and a stop for the sight seeing tour near by. I would strongly recommend this apartment to anybody visiting Rome.
