Peaceful ranch setting

  • 5 of 5

My family of four, two young kids and two adults, stayed at Susan's ranch recently while exploring Pinnacles National Park. It was a welcome retreat from the hustle and bustle of Monterey. Susan and Rod are very accommodating. Rod gave us a tour of the ranch and Susan gave us a "farm animal tour" and let the kids feed the horses. It was the kids' highlight of our trip. The portion of the ranch house they rent out is nicely appointed and clean. Thank you Susan for a lovely stay, for letting us love on all your farm animals, and sharing fresh eggs for breakfast each morning!

Peaceful Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

We had the absolute pleasure of staying with Susan and Rod at Pine Canyon Ranch and we cannot speak highly enough of our time there. From the time of booking to arrival at the Ranch, communication was excellent. Susan was even kind enough to accommodate us for one extra night as I had made an error in my booking. The property itself was perfect for us. Fully stocked kitchen and dining area with a full size washer and dryer, large bedroom/living area with TV and wifi and a lovely large bathroom. The property also had a wonderful balcony which was perfect for watching the sunset across the valley. We delighted in watching the wildlife that visited - a cheeky scrub jay came calling for the peanuts we left out and we also saw humming birds, woodpeckers, turkey vultures to name a few. The property was ideally located for us - about 20 minutes drive to Monterey, also close to several wineries which were lovely to visit. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer and we would love to visit again sometime in the future.

We had a lovely time at the quiet and beautiful ranch. The house is well equipped and it is a pleasure seeing the pastures and mountains in the quiet of morning and night.

Quiet place to stay near Monterey/Santa Cruz CA area

  • 4 of 5

We stayed 4 nights at this property in July, 2016. The guesthouse is attached to the main house and has it's own entry. The quarters are well maintained and furnished very nicely. The general feel for this place is quiet & peaceful. This is a rustic country place with a fire pit ready to go, and a patio off the bedroom equipped with a grill & fuel. Although the listing does not include any supplies, we found it with many supplies. It has full sized washer & dryer which was wonderful, and the bathroom is large & roomy with a good shower and very large countertop area. We did not utilize the fire pit due to the dry conditions, but I could see it being fun with a group on a cool evening. It was a comfortable reprieve for us after visiting some very busy areas in CA. From this location we went to Monterey (about 1/2 hour drive) for activities which included the aquarium. We highly recommend the 4 hour whale & dolphin boat trip that leaves from the Monterey wharf. In Monterey we enjoyed eating at Rosine's. We also travelled to Santa Cruz to the Boardwalk on the beach. This is a lot of fun for all ages, especially if you like the rides (big & small). Overall, we mainly used the guesthouse for our nights, but I think it would be a good place to spend a few quiet days. Thank-you Susan & Rod.

A relaxing and enjoyable vacation in peace and quiet

  • 5 of 5

My daughters (11 and 15) and I spent two days at the Pine Canyon Ranch and thoroughly enjoyed it. Located a few miles outside of Salinas and an easy drive into Monterey, we felt that it was a perfect location; away from the noise and traffic in town but close enough to any store we might need. The ranch itself was beautiful; the nights were quiet, with amazing views over the valley and the lights of Salinas in the distance. Mornings were spent watching the sun rise over the valley to the chirping of birds.

We visited the Monterey Aquarium one day, which was a short 30 minute drive with traffic. The rest of the time we were content to relax on property. The property had all amenities as described; TV/DVD, DirecTV, laundry, full kitchen, and even a charcoal grill (which we did not use). The owner, Susan, was a wonderful host and provided us with numerous suggestions on activities in the area, and was very helpful with minor requests we had. She even was kind enough to mail us back a forgotten item that we had left behind. She was very flexible on our arrival and departure time.

All in all, we had a great visit and would definitely recommend this property to others. We did not have any time to explore the ranch and surrounding area due to our short visit but hope to in the future. Thanks Susan!

Peaceful Stay

  • 5 of 5

If I could describe our stay at Susan's ranch in one word I would say "Peaceful". This was our first experience staying at a "home" rather than our usual hotel/motel/lodge/camping experiences. Staying there felt like you are staying a friends' house except that they gave you privacy. Susan and Rod were very gracious but never all over us. I actually never saw Susan but was in easy contact with her via phone and texting. We did meet Rod and he was kind enough to give us a quick tour of his own museum on site. If you like history, nature, photography and good stories you would like Rod.

When we drove up to the house we were greeted by a couple of happy dogs and some chickens. Yes, it is a ranch and it's rustic so if you are looking for some cutsey B&B or pristine hotel room this ain't it. But we found the house clean, comfortable and attractive. The rooms were a nice size- plenty of room for us three adults. There is a nice, fully equipped kitchen dining area. We enjoyed lazy breakfasts in front of a big picture window next to the dining table. There were hummingbirds and another beautiful bird that would visit the bottlebrush tree framing the window. I had planned dinners out but we ending up preparing all but one meal at the house as it was easy. (I recommend the big Raley's Market in Salinas.) The bathroom was big with lots of storage. The shower worked very well. The bedroom/living room was comfortable and attractive. Big beautiful bed, a sofa that opened to a bed and a comfy easy chair.. Susan also provided us with an air mattress. The TV/combo stored in the closet was a little difficult to use but we eventually figured it out. Actually we only felt like watching TV one evening. The deck off the bedroom is a nice comfortable size with patio furniture a barbeque. The best thing was the view of the Salinas Valley from the deck. Beautiful! The only sad thing was it was overcast and cool most of the weekend so we didn't spend much time on the deck. We did get some clear skies one night so we saw plenty of stars. A treat for city dwellers.

During the day we took trips to Big Sur/Monterey, The Pinnacles National Park and the Steinbeck Museum. Unfortunately we did not have any time left to see more of the farm. I would like to return one day and do that. Since we are from San Francisco Bay Area we have visited the Monterey Coast area many times but using the Salinas area as our home base was very pleasant different experience.
