A cool little cottage

  • 4 of 5

It is a bit further than 1 block to the beach; probably closer to 2 or 3. It is also on the east side of 101. However, it has an awesome back yard that gets lots of afternoon sun, with a grassy area, wooden deck, hot tub, and large fire pit with lots of chairs. The house is a little cluttered with knick-knacks, especially considering it is a small cottage. You will hear the refrigeration unit of the grocery store next door. All said, it met our family's needs!

Great Value for a very cute rental property!

  • 5 of 5

You can't find a better deal on the Oregon Coast. This was midway between everything we hoped to see (Cannon Beach, Astoria, Tillamook, Newport) and the rental is adorable! Not to mention just a hop off the beach. Thank you!

Enjoyable stay.

  • 4 of 5

Cottage was clean and cozy. If you plan on cooking, kitchen literally has everything you need. Bed was very comfortable. Our adult children slept in the bunk beds very comfortably. The outside back yard is a dog owners paradise, all fenced in for a peace of mind to let the dogs roam freely. Fire pit is very big. The hot tub was the absolute favorite for us. Easy lift top a plus! The lighting in backyard all through out made it all so inviting in the evening.

The pictures posted are accurate. There were no pet odors. We loved the location. Close to food and shops and most importantly the Beach! To give an honest review, you have to mention the noise from the refrigerator system of the local store, but it isn't so loud you can't have normal conversation, when it does kick on, it just becomes background noise. The yard supercedes that! Thank you for sharing your beach cottage. Would love to come back again.

Cute, but be sure you are a dog owner

  • 2 of 5

Cute, great location close to the beach. The smell inside the house, however, was awful. The sofa, carpets, yuck with the dog smell. At least it was warm enough so we could open the windows. When we first walked in, I was afraid my husband wouldn't even stay one night. Too many personal items in the house, cluttered.

Owner's Response: Please don't rent a personal residence that advertises "Dog-friendly" in the Headline title if you can't be understanding that pets have stayed in the home before you. This home is perfectly situated in downtown with a large fenced yard and only 1 block to the beach for people with pets and children. It is a prime location for shopping & dining in Rockaway Beach. The pictures of the home are very accurate on VRBO. Most people that stay love & appreciate the beach themed décor and the fact that anything you might need for cooking, movies, games, books, etc. are provided for the enjoyment of guests. The hot tub and fire pit are additional perks that you would not have access to while staying in the local hotels.

Disaster- owner needs to update the photos, as well as keep up the property. The yard is a jungle.

  • 2 of 5

Upon arriving, we entered a home that smelled of mildew, and mold. We found that the seals in the wash machine were full of mold, and need to be replaced. We tried to clean it, but the seals simply need to be replaced. The furniture in the living room was filthy beyond cleaning. We had to cover a chair with towels. The yard was a disaster, and over ran with weeds. It is quite obvious that the owner had not done any up keep in the yard in quite some time. The coffee pot didn't work, so I purchased a new one. My family spent several hours just clearing the path to the back yard. Also, none of the outdoor lights worked, so my husband had to fix them. We rented this cottage during Garibaldi days, when I sent the owners a message about the yard, I received a very nasty reply. Very unprofessional, and was told to go to a hotel if I didn't like it. I WOULD NOT recommend this home to anyone, because of the owners lack of professionalism, and over all lack of caring.

I still have the text from the owner, and pictures of the yard.

Owner's Response: Due to the unseasonal weather this spring and summer, it has been very difficult to keep up with any landscaping from the beach to the Portland area. The yard was cleaned-up just 3 weeks prior to this guest's stay and was scheduled to be cleaned the Monday after they left. They happened to fall at the end of the scheduled landscaping. After receiving an email from this guest regarding light bulbs that burned out (there are extra light bulbs, batteries, etc provided for guests to use any time), I replied with "Please feel free to go to a hotel if you are unhappy and complaining about my personal home that guests use. I am happy to refund you." After another email about the yard I replied with "We just had a ton of work done in the yard a few weeks ago. Due to the unusual weather the yard has been hard to keep up with this year while scheduling around guests. The soonest the landscapers can go back out there is Monday. Attached are before/after pictures from just 3 weeks ago when the yard was last done." Unfortunately, the guests this summer have been very rough on my house making it difficult to maintain between such a tight schedule of guests. This guest must not have seen the 2 other coffee pots that were stored in the kitchen cabinet, so buying a coffee pot was unnecessary. There were 2 blown light strands at the beginning of the strand that we have placed along the fence for enjoyment, but not as a necessity. The guest was able to easily unplug the extension cord and plug into the 3rd strand. The guest could have turned on the deck lights using the switch inside the back door of the home or brought out some of the outdoor candles from the shed if late night lighting was a issue. This home had been priced well below the standard nightly rate to stay in the heart of Rockaway Beach. This home has amenities you cannot get at a hotel, such as beds for 6, full kitchen, the fenced yard, private hot tub and fire pit and is pet friendly. Also having the access to a washer/dryer regardless of the smell on this inside is always a plus for families that might need to clean laundry while travelling!

Please update pictures; yard doesn't look like this!

  • 2 of 5

The home is quite nice; but needs some upkeep. Very comfortable bed in back bedrooms, bunk beds not suitable for adults, they sit too low.

One chair in the livingroom should be cleaned or re-upolstered; it is brown with dirt; I put bath towels over it so people could sit down on it.

The lawn area is totally overgrown and full or Dandelions; we weeded the walkways while we were on vacation. Apparently the landscape was done in 2013 and the owner has never updated the pictures of the yard. Some of the furnishings in the house are a little different also. I bought a cheap coffee pot; the one in the cabinet wasn't working, but I left a note for the cleaning service.
