This is a beautiful, secluded property located in a private bay with a sand beach on the west arm of Burntside Lake. Enjoy solitude with wide open views overlooking the lake, beautiful sunsets, misty mornings without a neighbor in sight. Two log cabins (rented as a single unit, with cabin #1 having a queen bed, bunk bed, and a twin; cabin #2 has a queen bed, two twins, and a full-size futon) sleeping 8-11, with a separate cooking cabin and a separate screened in gazebo right off of the beach. . Relax in a spacious sauna then jump in the lake to cool off! Family friendly, kids love the beach. This is one of the few on Burntside with no drop off, perfect for younger children. Bring your boat! Smaller boats can be tied to our dock, pontoons pulled up to the beach.

This rental includes 2 log cabins. The first is located 20 feet from the beach and is connected to the boat house which houses the sauna. It has 2 bedrooms with a double bed in one and 2 twins in the other. There is a pull out sofa in the main area that can sleep two smaller people or kids for a sleeping capacity of 6. The second log cabin is directly up about 60 feet from the first cabin and has 2 bedrooms with 2 twin beds each for a sleeping capacity of 4. Guest cabins each have a bathroom including shower, toilet, sink and hot water. Separate cooking cabin is equipped with a gas oven/stove, refrigerator, microwave, and dishwasher. An advance deposit of $500.00 will secure your reservation. Should you need to cancel your plans, and we are able to rebook the cabins, we will refund the deposit less a 10% service charge. About Patricia Grahek Durie

This property has been in the family for over 60 years and has been used to entertain many dignitaries including Hubert Humphrey and Walter Mondale. This property is co-owned with my sister; we are both professionals working and living in Hibbing, MN with our families. We both have children and dogs who have loved coming up to the cabin for years. We have been renting on a limited basis for over 20 years and have several repeat renters who return year after year. Due to the dramatic rise in property taxes over the past several years we have decided to expand our rental base and are offering this on VRBO this year for the first time.

Patricia Grahek Durie purchased this cabin in 1950

Why Patricia Grahek Durie chose Ely

I was born and raised in Ely. When I was a child we would spend the entire summer out at the lake from May - September.

What makes this cabin unique

Mornings are quiet and beautiful - my favorite time of the day sitting on the beach with a hot cup of coffee watching a sunrise over a perfectly still lake as a fine layer of mist vanishes over the water. Days are filled with ducks feeding on the beach with their babies and deer feeding on the apple trees. Swimming, fishing, sun tanning or sitting on the dock reading are all my favorite pastimes. Evening sunsets with the loons calling each other or sipping cocktails or sodas waiting for steaks on the grill...end the night with a bonfire on the beach and a sauna or game of scrabble in the gazebo. Take your cell phone if you like but otherwise...we are electronics free:) This is a place to enjoy your family and friends and to get away from it all. There is access to great food in town only 8 miles away if you do not want to cook, the Pebble spa can handle all your relaxation needs and there are some great shops along with the International Wolf Center, the Bear Center, and the Dorothy Molter museum to visit on a rainy day. Don't forget all the hiking trails around Ely or access canoe rentals or boat rentals in town.

Awesome family getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Awesome find! I went up with my husband and two kids (ages 1 and 3) along with my in-laws. Having separate cabins was a definite plus! Having a central gathering space was also great.

Beautiful beach and property. Very spacious, peaceful and serene-the great weather also helped! We used the sauna and cooking cabin daily as well. Owners flexibility was also appreciated (we stayed Sunday to Sunday) and also had our small dog with us. Small flaws are there, but you have to be looking for them. Overall we were very happy with our experience and look forward staying at this property again!

Very peaceful lake. The cabins are clean and comfortable. Our boys 9 and 11 had a great time on the beach and in the water.

Fun at Burntside

  • 4 of 5

Our family renunion of 10 had a great time here. They were very accommodating of our dogs. The cabins were clean, the beach was wonderful and they had all the beach toys available. The lake itself is beautiful and we all had a great time fishing. There is a caretaker on site which turned out to be good because the sewer pump went out and they took care of it right away. The down side is the that the cook kitchen is not very close to the gazebo where everyone ate. Would be a pain in rain or if you had people with mobility problems. Dock can only hold one boat, though they also let us use a slip in the boat house. There is another cabin for rent on this site that was not part of our rental and if it was rented separate, it would not be very private. We had the whole place to ourselves though. The cabins are laid out a little different from the pictures, but still nicely decorated. There are no t.v.'s, which I loved. When I reserved I had to ask for a confirmation, wasn't automatically sent. When I called, they got me one right away. We would go back, it's a great value for the money.
