What makes this cabin unique

Out door Hot Tub and TV.. (out door TV not available during winter)

You can walk or drive down to the dock.

Huge windows for amazing views, especially the sunsets.

Secluded yet only a half an hour to all major attractions.

Very spacious.

Lots of wild life.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The house is exactly as you see it on the web and, as you know, this is not always the case. The house had every amenity you could ask for. The sunrise on the back deck and the sunsets on the dock were beautiful. The game room was perfect for those "down" times and we were close enough to the Smokey's for our daily hikes (with more amazing views), white water rafting, ATV'ing or whatever the event of the day was. We can't wait to go back

Heaven on Earth

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had the opportunity to experience all the amenities this lovely property has to offer guests. Spacious sleeping accommodations, well-appointed kitchen and breath-taking views are only a few of the multiple luxuries we enjoyed. Douglas Lake is a stunning backdrop for endless hours of boating, fishing and swimming and the cabin provided the proximity and accessibility to savor each and every one during our stay. Pictures are far inferior to the elegance this home affords. Thank you Steve for your assistance throughout the rental process. I eagerly anticipate a return trip in the not so distant future!

Private relaxed home with great views

  • 5 of 5

Great house, great view... mostly private trade the hill for the view... Had some HVAC issues with the home when we first got there, but owner acted fast corrected the problem... We were also compensated with a free night for the troubles... It's a trek to the dock, but around the block take the private drive down (reccomend 4wd or awd, and if a truck reccomend backing down & driving up). Trek to dock is traded for the deck views.... Lake is great (and big even though we are used to lake Michigan) with minimal traffic even on labor day weekend, weekdays were very peaceful... didn't see any loud offshore boats... If your bringing your own boat (and it's over 18ft.) I reccomend picking a marina before your trip launch the boat take it to the house dock and leave the trailer at the marina.... I took the boat to the house the first night, and there are some turns you won't like, and it took some work to get turned around in front of the house (22ft boat with crew cab pickup)... I reccomend the point resort/marina we took the boat there the second day launched it took it to the house dock and stored the trailer at the marina for 10$ a night.... Owner was easy to get a hold of, and talk to no issues there despite some of the reviews. Would definitely stay again. Plenty of sleeping rooms for a big family or multiple couples. Huge kitchen gathering area, 2 decent bathrooms. Overall a positive stay. Thanks Steve.

Comfortable home on a hill with great views

  • 5 of 5

This home was a perfect place for our family reunion. It has a large kitchen that is stocked with everything you need. Big family room and balconies with plenty of seating and hot tub. The dock is a hike downhill but there is a road that you can access to drive down and up the hill. Dock is very private. It was great to have a ping pong table for rainy days and evenings. It has only 2 bathrooms which is tight when you have 10 or more people. Bedrooms very comfortable. We would return in a heartbeat.

Big house, mostly clean, great view...but after the view wears off, it’s not so great...

  • 2 of 5

I am going to pre-emp this owners response-he believes we brought a dog, a 8 pound dog I asked him if we could bring him prior to our visit; he recently got out of the vet, he had an accident which required sitches a few days before we left, so he did sympathize and proceeded to ask a high amount, I laughed, and I offered less, he did settle on less, but still too much considering we spent to much on the house already. We proceeded to find a home for him for 7 days; but the owner had determined that we had brought him with us anyway, and kept or damage deposit (although no damage was done or even mentioned by him). Not sure how he came to that conclusion, about the dog, one could only imagine, there are cameras on site, so note. Review of the house, if you like rules, you will like this home, rules all around you, rental agreement, sticky notes all over the home, it offers perfect direction, so you don’t make any mistakes on your relaxing vacation. The view is good, but the lake is light years away; “lake front” is loosely used here. If you have an issue with steps, no lake for you. There is a sort of driveway down to the lake, but there are steps when you arrive at the landing, so if steps are and issue, well, you are still out of luck. And if your car is not all wheel drive, the adventure up the driveway is going to be tricky, did it, once, only once. Let’s say, if you want a lake SIDE adventure, this is not your house; it is great for lake view. Good size, kitchen was huge, as was the house; and it was clean when we arrived. The water is super hard, taking a shower is ehhhhh; never felt clean afterwards, and god forbid you drink; the beds were super uncomfortable too. Now this is petty, getting and coming from the home gets old after 7 days...lot of curves, but something to consider, although it is the mountains, hence the word petty. The vacation was expensive, not worth the money (my opinion), and ultimately I honestly was no pleased when I left.

Owner's Response: Please read the quote from this guest below before he discovered I found out he brought his dog when he told me he wasn't going to. "We left the house around 9:30. Just got home an hour ago. WE HAD A GREAT TIME. What is the time frame concerning the security deposit?" As he mentioned, I was allowing him to bring his dog (for a fee) even though we dont allow pets. I love animals and felt bad so I made the exception. When I asked him for the payment. He said they found a sitter and decided not to bring the dog. With that said. Ive had other guests try to sneak dogs into the home without my knowledge. So I was definitely going to check up to be sure he wasn't going to do the same. I wasn't very surprised when I walked up the path to find Poop in the front yard. After further investigation I found the dogs bed in the home. I decided not to make a big deal over it, but after being kind enough to allow them to bring their pet. I was going to be sure to be compensated. His attempt to damage our Beautiful Home and Great reputation only makes him look foolish. All our 5 STAR Reviews speak for them self. We would love to have you as our future and ongoing guest's.. Thank you for reading my response and look forward to hearing from you shortly.

Awesome vacation on a great property!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at Heaven's Door with a bunch of friends for my 50th birthday and had a very memorable vacation! The cabin is spacious and accommodates larger groups easily with privacy. Even the beds were very comfy and did not have a negative effect on our "bad backs". The kitchen is sufficiently stocked and includes a nice BBQ (we did have to refill the spare propane tank to make it through the week, I hope the next guests appreciate it!). The multi-level decks provided beautiful views of Douglas Lake and the sunsets were amazing every night!

Prior to booking, we researched the property thoroughly and were aware of the trek required to get to the lake so there really was no surprise that it's a walk with a decent incline to the water. The lake is Amazing so we all thought it to be well worth the exercise! We were also able to drive our truck around the short block with our fishing and tubing gear and park at the top of the incline so it eased the load. It's also possible to park a little closer to the lake on the landing if you have a 4 wheel drive and someone who doesn't get intimidated by tight drives or heights. On one day, we rented a pontoon from one of the many marina's and were impressed by the beautiful properties and views around the lake. I highly recommend doing the same if you stay here! We also had a couple successful days of blue gill fishing right off the dock resulting in a yummy fish fry! The only thing that was a disappointment was the fire pit area. The grass/weeds had overgrown the area so we did not risk building a camp fire. I did have the need to contact the owner a few times with questions and received quick responses with helpful info. The packet he made available with information about the property and surrounding area was also thorough and very helpful. It made for a much easier vacation, for sure. This is definitely an awesome experience we will all remember with a smile!

Picture Perfect

  • 5 of 5

My family and I absolutely loved our stay at Douglas Lake. The home was beautiful and very well maintained. The home is perched high, overlooking the lake and providing tranquility and a view that makes the extremely steep walk down to the dock well worth it. The lake is huge and we were surprised at how little boat traffic there seemed to be. You almost had the entire lake yourself. The location is also ideal for hiking in the Smoky Mountains. Within 45 minutes to an hours drive you can reach a number of trailheads.
