I teach literature, from Antiquity to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance: Virgil, Dante, Boccaccio, Petrarca, and Ariosto, Mark Twain, Rabelais, Chaucer, Lucian of Samosata, and Apuleius, among others.
Why Rose chose Cortona
In their literary works, 'The Aeneid' and the 'Divine Comedy,' Virgil and Dante tell us of their journey in Cortona and of the inspirations they found in this beautiful Etruscan city. Being in Cortona allows me to share the culture and the beauty that inspired these poets. I also like Etruscan Art and Cortona allows me the opportunity to visit its Etruscan Museum which exposes all kinds of Etruscan artistic expressions--terracotta vases, jewelery, and much more-- that have been found in the territory of Cortona. The central location and the narrow street on which the apartment is located, the Roman-style well and the 16th century fire-place, the wooden beams ceiling and the original terracotta floor, make my vacations in this apartment truly inspirational.
What makes this Apartment unique
The apartment is central: within a one-minute walk I am in the main Piazza, where I can visit museums, galleries, churches and other interesting places. Though my apartment is central,it is located in a very quiet area. This allows me to work quietly and to be able to meet my friends in the main square, or visit any of the beautiful spots, within a one minute walk.

Magical Cortona; Magical Apartment

My husband and I stayed here for a very memorable week in June. Rosa, the owner, was so helpful in providing information, and so welcoming.I feel like I know her personally. The property manager, Denys, from Together in Tuscany and Umbria, could not have been more helpful. They delivered our bags to the apartment when we arrived (The streets are difficult for cars and the way to the apartment is a little steep), and called us a taxi when we left, who picked up our bags and got us to the paring lot outside of town. The apartment is wonderfully historical, but also very comfortable. The apartment was stocked with coffee, tea, and a few necessities. The bathrooms and kitchen were clean and modernized, the living rooms and bedrooms were just delightful. The apartment is close to the shopping area and to the great restaurants. We ate, as a special treat, at the restaurant run by the Barrachi Winery, and the food was awesome; the setting was glorious outside with great views, but inside, it felt like a wine cave, only
brighter. Wonderful experience. There was a medieval pageant in town during the weekend we were there. What a treat. Great music, great costumes, great fun!
I would recommend this apartment to anyone!

A Week to Remember
Before we left for Italy, we were supplied with an incredibly helpful package from Rosa with recommendations, phone numbers, hints and detailed information about Cortona, train stations, taxis, and so much more. We opted to take a train to Terontola and our taxi and Denise were waiting. Check in was easy, the apartment was very convenient and comfortable and in no time we felt like locals. WiFi wasn't available, but it was fun to go to our favorite Enoteca at the end of Via National each morning for a latte and to check on the SF Giants games. Lots of great restaurants only minutes from the apt.
This was our first experience with VRBO and it will be my preferred method of booking in the future. If I want to stay up and read or listen to music, there are plenty of other rooms for me to do so without disturbing my husband. We will stay here again on our next trip to Cortona.
Great accomodation in the center of Cortona
My mother, teenage daughter and I recently stayed at The Roman Well and couldn't have been happier with our stay. Cortona was delightful, Rosa very easy to deal with and Laura a great assitance when we got there. The apartment was perfectly situated, steps away form everything we wanted to do, clean and comfortable.
I would definitely recommend the property to anyone who wants to visit the area.
Outstanding Property in the heart of Cortona
We recently stayed at the Roman Well in Cortona. It is a terrific property in an amazing location. Every morning it was a short walk to the market for breakfast. Parking was very accessible. 30 seconds into the main piazza in Cortona. It couldn't have been better. Cortona is a great launching pad for anywhere in Tuscany/Umbria -- Florence/Rome. Great train access.
Rosa was terrific to work with. She made our stay seamless and very easy. We look forward to returning to the Roman Well.
Our family of four (our kids are 7 and 9) had a great time in Cortona at the Roman Well. Rosa has a wonderful apartment, in a perfect location. It is right off of the main street but was also very quiet. Everything was so pretty and thoughtfully planned out. The apartment is immaculate and beautifully decorated, with an amazing 2000 year old well! We enjoyed a day at the nearby municipal pool(incredible views all around), and had terrific meals in town. The town itself is a wonderful mix of stores and restaurants, without being too touristy. From Cortona we visited Arezzo, Assisi, Perugia, and Panicale. Rosa was lovely and helpful, providing ample information to enjoy our visit. We hope to return!

My husband and I and daughter had a delightful
time at The Roman Well. The apartment is superbly
located and all of Cortona was at our footsteps.
The apartment was clean, comfortable and
charming! We can't recommend this highly enough
and look forward to returning someday if the stock
market ever gets better.
Cortona is home to a few impressive Museums, a Theater, a park, a tennis court, a public pool, and numerous historical sites. Among the museums, there are the MAEC, an archeological Museum, the Diocesan Museum, home of a huge collection of religious works of art, the Mo.Pa, home of a Paleontological Exhibition, as well as a museum of "peasant" culture. Teatro Signorelli offers musicals, operas, ballets, and much more, all year long. During the summer months Cortona offers three interesting festivals: one, is the festival of religious music. Next there is the Cortona Mix Festival that hosts numerous artist of all genres who come to exhibit their works, and there is, Cortona on the Move, an internationally recognized photograph exhibition. But these are only a few of the stimulating activities available for the travelers.
