Guestbook comments from the manager

Our December vacation was spur of the moment, way out of peak season. We saw squirrels and the stars out every night. It was just peaceful to do absolutely nothing, while the other half of us tended to business. Thanks for the wonderful place to stay.

Beautiful and private.

  • 5 of 5

The property is very large. With a swimming pool, pond, and lake, there is no shortage of activities to keep all of your family happy. Even my dog had a wonderful time running the trails and exploring the land. Even though the owner lives on the property, you will not see her unless you need her. The trail to the lake has a few hills and gulleys and may not be the best trail for special needs or the elderly, but overall we loved the place in its entirety. My family always takes a vote at the end of a rental to see if we would consider it again. The vote was a 100% yes. We would definitely rent it again. One other thing worth mentioning is that the Clarks Hill Marina is very convenient to this property. If you are looking to rent a boat for your stay, the marina is 18 minutes by land and about 15 minutes by water. We loved our stay. Thanks Penny.

The property description was very misleading.

  • 1 of 5

The property is an older home in desperate need of updating. The property description was very misleading. We rented the golf cart and it died on the first trip up the hill and we had to push it. The property manager was pleasant enough but did not communicate well. The DISH went out & we were asked to call them directly to troubleshoot the problem. The showers drain slowly and the water stands above your feet. The washer and dryer is ancient. The AC is locked at 74 and is not of an adequate size to cool the house. There are signs on at least 2 doors that advise you not to open them and "they are on the list of repairs to be made." There are no locks on the doors We were advised to use a stick for one (that actually does not close all the way.) The pool is in desperate need of a coat of paint. The flooring is old and kind of 'icky'. The 1600 foot walk to the boat dock is very treacherous. Small children and anyone with any mobility challenges could never make it up or down that path. There is no overhead lighting in the house. It is a dark and drab We would never stay here again or recommend to a friend. I can't imagine that for the price this place rents for they would have a lot of return business.

Owner's Response: Hi Teri, We are very sorry to hear that your stay fell short of expectations! We take the security of our travelers seriously, and we would have been happy to immediately address your concerns had you reached out to our team or your guest contact during your stay. The homeowner charges the golf cart before each guest's arrival, but there is a weight limit, and guests are responsible for recharging it after each use. The owner also called DISH to resolve the issue when the TV went out, but DISH advised that the best way to solve the problem was to work with you directly. The drain has been cleared, and the pool is regularly sanitized and then repainted each year during the slower rental season. The only access to the property is through a locked entry gate, and there is a skylight as well as multiple overhead and table lamps throughout the home. We have never received feedback about the difficulty of the path to the dock before, but this is out of the homeowner's control as the Army Corps of Engineers owns the path as well as all land around the lake. Thank you for your review, and we wish you all the best in your future travels! The Evolve Team

Wonderful retreat

  • 5 of 5

This home was the best! We were able to host an after-Thanksgiving lunch with nearby relatives, spread out between the living room and porch and just enjoy the quiet of the country. The leaves were just turning orange in the fall and the big windows allowed us to enjoy the view. Perfect retreat!

Great space

  • 4 of 5

Had a very good time staying here. The great room is very spacious and the kitchen is huge, well stocked and easy to work in even with 7 people staying there. Beds were comfy and had plenty of linens. Pool was nice and surprisingly cold given how hot it was that weekend. Its about a 15 minute hike to get to the water but we did find a boat launch nearby to drive to put our kayaks in. It does get a little warm inside no matter how hard you run the AC but it wasn't unbearable. Overall great place. I would definitely stay again.
