A note about internet:
This is a great place to disconnect! We have been unable to find a provider who can offer consistent service as we are in a narrow 'dead' zone. However, cell access is good (particularly Verizon; ATT can be spotty). Free internet is available at Starbucks at Squaw Valley and other locations around town. Email us if you need more information.
The bedrooms are not accessible to wheelchairs due to all three of the bedrooms being located downstairs. However, the upstairs is fully accessible to wheelchairs, walkers, etc. There is a level wooden walkway that leads from the street to the main floor, which contains the kitchen, dining area, living area, deck and 1 full bathroom (though the bathroom is small). I have a friend in an electric wheelchair and she can access the upper floor with no problem.

The popular Five Lakes Trail, a moderately steep trail to five small high alpine lakes in the Granite Chief Wilderness, offers access to the Pacific Crest Trail for longer excursions or wilderness backpacking. The trailhead is a few hundred yards from the front door, heading toward the ski area on Alpine Meadows Road.
The Bear Creek Trail trail-head is located across the street from the Five Lakes trail-head and provides an easy hike down to Bear Creek and back up the hill to connect with the horse trails that traverse the base of Scott Creek.
Other recreational activities include mountain biking, horseback riding, tennis, golf, river rafting on the Truckee River in the summer; skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing in the winter at nearby Alpine Meadows or Squaw Valley. Lake Tahoe offers many water-based activities, including boating, kayaking, standup paddleboarding, jet-skiing, parasailing and fishing.

About Inga Aksamit
We are a professional couple from the Bay Area who met in the mountains and feel a passion for North Lake Tahoe. We love to backpack in the Granite Chief Wilderness behind the cabin, mountain bike on nearby trails and relax at the beach at beautiful, blue Lake Tahoe.
Inga Aksamit purchased this Cabin in 2000
Why Inga Aksamit chose Alpine Meadows
The location on Alpine Meadows Road means we have easy access summer and winter, the views of Scott Peak and Alpine Meadows ski area are spectacular from the house and we love to step out of the house and be on wilderness trails within minutes. It's a short drive to Lake Tahoe, with stores and restaurants nearby. We've been skiing at Squaw Valley and Alpine for decades and have explored most of the back country trails in the surrounding area.
What makes this Cabin unique
The deck catches the afternoon sun so we enjoy relaxing with a book and a glass of wine. If we're lazy we'll take a walk around the neighborhood, while if we're more energetic we'll tackle the Five Lakes Trail. Horse stables are just down the street for those who like to ride. A river rafting outfit is located at the end of the road.

Beautiful, clean and comfortable!
We celebrated my wife's 40th birthday with our first trip to Tahoe! We were lucky to see the first snow! This home was fabulous! It had everything you need to be comfortable and feel at home, lus spectacular views, great information and fabulous location. We were so close to the five Lakes Trail in the granite wilderness that links to the PCT all we had to do was cross the street . On our hike we even saw a private chairlift that went up to squaw Valley. This place was spectacular and I would highly recommend it to anyone!!! Thanks inga!
It was an early snowfall but glad you embraced it. Your photos of the hike to Five Lakes were beautiful. Come again!
delightful home. excellent kitchen. quiet and convenient. great owner.
The cabin and location were ideal. I enjoyed the quiet beauty of the location and the view. It was close enough to the lake for me to get to all the activities I love doing and coming back to the cabin was a lovely retreat.
Inga was a thorough host. Appreciated all her helpful tips and house information. Highly recommend this rental!
I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay. We hope you'll visit again sometime.
Small, but very comfortable
We enjoyed our stay! At first we were a little put off by how close it was to the road, but once you are inside, you have no idea there is a road close. The whole cabin was well stocked - kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms, etc. We had a wonderful time. It is close to Tahoe City to go in for the activities and shops, but out of the way enough to relax and wind down. The lack of cell service (we have AT&T) was kinda nice since it made us unplug. We hope to go back some time.
We're glad you enjoyed your stay and hope that you will return again. Luckily, the way the house is oriented, road noise is not that audible. In addition, in the summer the road is lightly used since the Alpine Meadows ski area only operates in winter. We're glad you could experience the relaxing effects of the alpine environment.
Great efficient cabin in a sweet spot!
What a great, updated little cabin for six! We were two couples with a teenage boy each, and this place was perfect. With all three bedrooms downstairs and out of the way, it left a perfect living space and kitchen on the main level free of bedroom clutter. The garage and mud room were great for sorting outdoor stuff and keeping dirt from entering the efficient great room/Living area. Sunny happy living/ great room too. The kitchen was just big enough with a big refridge and everything ya need to cook with. The deck was great for hanging out on and worked great for our son to sleep outside (summer) on as well. The owners are "our kind of people" with outdoor adventure books and guides to read, a fine library. Inga, one of the owners, even has an informative outdoor adventure website worth reading as well. Kudus to the owners for everything about this place.
We're so happy that you enjoyed the cabin and appreciated our little library of adventure books. We hope you'll come back again to enjoy the mountains.
Beautiful & Comfortable
We enjoyed out stay enormously, especially the views from the narrow deck and floor to ceiling windows on the main/entry level. The listing description was accurate regarding location, coziness, and amenities, including lack of cell service & wifi. The property was well maintained and the owner provided good customer service. We were concerned about location on Alpine Meadows Rd. but traffic was light & noise was no problem during our summer stay. It was great to have such a short walk to 5 Lakes Trailhead. Enjoyed bicycle rides up to ski area and down to the trail along the Truckee River. We look forward to a return visit and will recommend to others.
I'm so glad it all worked out and appreciate hearing that our descriptions are accurate as we do strive to provide complete information. And we wish we had wifi also! We get Verizon cell service but we recognize that other carriers can be spotty to nonexistent. I'm glad you were able to take advance of some of the recreational activities in the area.
Beautiful Lake Tahoe offers many recreational activities, including paddleboarding, kayaking, canoeing, sailing, and fishing, along with lakefront beaches. Tahoe City and Truckee offer excellent restaurants and shopping. Extensive hiking and biking trails abound; some easy, some strenuous. Events are held almost every weekend at nearby Squaw Valley during the summer, and High Camp offers skating and swimming.
