Looking to explore the Chianti region of Tuscany with all the comforts of home and more? This newly refurbished accommodation (all on one level!) in a Tuscany villa has it all! The owner, who lives on the estate in the family villa, is American and she's furnished the villa in Tuscany to American tastes. So relax or dine on the covered terrace, hike through the woods across the country lane, explore Certaldo Alto with its Pretorio Palace, or take a day trip to Florence and beyond! There is another large apartment on the lower level, as well as Villa Sella, right next door (with its own pool), and Villa Certaldo, near the owner’s villa.
The home comprises the upper level of a newly renovated canteen constructed in 1939 by the grandmother of the current owner of the estate. The building was used for wine production for only a few years until the breakout of WWII at which time it served as a safe hiding place for those desperately attempting to avoid capture by the Nazi forces. There is still a hand dug WWII hideout located approximately 30 yards from La Solaia. The home is located on the same estate as Villa Sella and Villa Certaldo, therefore comprises the same property description (animal reserve, cultivated acreage) as these two properties. The structure contains two rental properties, each identical in size and layout. La Solaia is on the upper level; however, its entrance is ground level since it nestles against the hillside. There are no stairs in the home, other than the single step up to enter the home from its private terrace. Thus, it is a very comfortable home for families with children or guests with mobility challenges.
The home is reached from the parking area located just a few meters from the private front yard. There is a private fenced in garden (250 sq m/2700 sq ft) in front of the home. The private covered terrace (12 sq m/130 sq ft) furnished with dining table and chairs, comprises the entrance to the home. All floor covering inside the home and the loggia are Terra Cotta brick. There is an arched shaped double door glass entrance to living room from terrace.
Note: All furnishings and appliances unless otherwise indicated are new (2012).
Ground Floor (All Rooms): Throughout the home the ceilings are constructed with brick inlaid on large wooden beams typical of Tuscany. The walls are white and all rooms have ceiling fans for guest comfort. The table lamps are handmade and decorated ceramic. The wall fixtures are brass. The entire home is covered with wireless internet for guest use 24/7 at no additional cost. All bathrooms are luminous and each has window openings.
Living Room, Dining Room/Kitchen: The front double door entrance leads directly to the living room (25 sq m/270 sq ft) which is comfortably furnished with two large sofas (one is a sofa bed suitable for one, with a 120 cm mattress) and easy chair offering guests a large conversational area with coffee table and flat screen satellite television entertainment. The wood burning fireplace provides a cozy atmosphere. The writing desk offers a portable internet tablet for guest use. The series of 12 hand painted lithographs depicting colorful plants and herbs brings the feel of the countryside into the home. A large arched opening joins the living room with the kitchen/dining room (25 sq m/270 sq ft). The kitchen island provides a spacious and functional food preparation space as it overlooks both the dining and living rooms. Guests have a microwave, coffee maker, refrigerator, dishwasher, electric ceramic glass cook top area and electric oven as well as all standard kitchen equipment and utensils. All kitchen appliances and home accessories including pots, pans, plates, and utensils are new (2012). The open dining area offers a large table with seating for 8 persons. There is an antique “madia” or bread cabinet for storage. 10 colorful hand painted lithographs adorning the walls depict various professions from the 1600’s. The in-home laundry room (5 sq m/54 sq ft) houses the washing machine and provides a storage area. An arched corridor (5 sqm/54 sqft) with wood beamed ceiling provides entrance to the wooden double doors leading to the master suite.
First Bedroom: (19 sqm/200 sqft) is light and airy with four windows on the three outer walls overlooks the countryside and contains a queen size bed, two night tables, an armadio, and writing desk with chair. Six hand colored lithographs depict the various counties in England, and an original drawing, Milan 1845, illustrates major nations and their populations. The suite includes a private bathroom (5 sq m/54 sq ft) with double sink, WC, bidet, and shower/tub with sliding glass doors and wall mounted removable shower head.
Second Bedroom: (14 sq m/150 sq ft) has a queen size bed, two night tables, an armadio, and writing desk with chair. The room has three windows overlooking the countryside. Hand painted lithographs depicting English military adorn the room as do prints of Napoleon’s battles. The private en-suite bathroom (4 sq m/43 sq ft) has a double sink, WC, bidet, and shower/tub with glass sliding doors and wall mounted removable shower head.
