This fabulous 'Scandinavian-Country' home was once a notorious Yaak River Valley bar called Hell Roaring Saloon. Lovingly converted to a year-round family residence, it features an IKEA kitchen, a fully remodeled bathroom with tub and shower, river view dry bar, a library and a large master bedroom featuring a queen-sized bed with an unobstructed view of the Tamarack forested mountain across the river. There is a sleeper sofa (queen sized) in the main living area for a second couple.

In addition, there is a separate log cabin (perfect for kids or a second couple seeking their own privacy) with one bedroom and a sleeping loft, full shower, small kitchen. The cabin has two double beds, two twin beds and a sleeper hide-a-bed.

All of this on an open and SUNNY five-acre plot with a whopping 1,200 feet of private river front that wraps around the main building and flows within 15 feet of the full-view bar and front windows. Walk your kayak or fly rod to the river and be on the water in 30 seconds.

This is a 'get away from it all' vacation opportunity. Leave your cell phone at home (they don't work in the valley.) The trail head to Mt. Baldy is less than 100 yards from your front door. The deer and moose viewing - from your seat at the bar if you so choose - is incredible and your backyard is the Kootenai National Forest and the beautiful Yaak River.

Hunker down in your own piece of paradise, or use the place as a base camp for exploring the valley's multitude of gated forest service roads, hiking trails, secluded lakes and water falls. Once feted as 'the most remote valley in the lower forty-eight' The Yaak offers a truly unique vacation opportunity.

Don't let its name fool you ... the Hell Roaring property is quiet, beautiful and relaxing. The ultimate wilderness vacation for friends and family.

About Rob Sorensen

We are native Washingtonians who discovered the Yaak on a fly fishing trip to the northwest Montana. One day in the valley was all it took to know that we wanted to own property and spend time in this magical place. We bought the vacant Hell Roaring Saloon three days later and still marvel at our good fortune.

Rob Sorensen purchased this Lodge in 1998

Why Rob Sorensen chose Troy

'The Yaak' is a remote wilderness valley in the two million acre Kootenai National Forest. Less than 10% of its land mass is privately owned. Our place - and river front - is bordered on the west and north by national forest. It's private, accessible and has an incredible - and notorious - historical connection to the valley.

What makes this Lodge unique

The solitude and abundance of wildlife make staying in The Yaak a truly unique experience. Besides the beautiful surroundings, we see moose, deer, beaver, otters, eagles, osprey and owls...not to mention a wide variety of smaller - but no less enjoyable - flora and fauna

We had a very peaceful stay. The cabin was very clean and inviting. The scenery was beautiful with deer to watch and fish to catch. The cabin was a very open had we had numbers of people to entertain. The Kitchen had all the tools needed including the nice gas grill outside . There wasn't any hassles to our stay at the Hell Roaring Saloon.👍🏻

                                                        Absolutely perfect

The house and cabin were wonderful. The setting was peaceful and beautiful and the owners and caretaker made sure our stay was perfect. We would stay again in a heartbeat if in the area. We found plenty to do, visiting Yaak Falls and Kootenai Falls and the Ross Creek Giant Cedars (amazing!), and hiking the trails. We also found plenty of time to relax and unwind by the river. We miss it already!

                                                        Beautiful!!!

                                                        Valerie M.Othello, WA

My sons and their wives loved their stay and all the personal touches the owners made to make them feel right at home. The couple with no children stayed in the spacious Scandinavian lodge and hosted the other family for a couple of game nights. The couple with children stayed in the small, cozy cabin. The kids loved sleeping in the loft almost as much as walking out to the river to fish first thing in the morning. The same personal touches some other reviewers had seen as a negative were what they found as delightful and made them feel at home, not in a sterile hotel room. It made me sad to see that the property was for sale since there is no way it would have the same feel with new owners. It worked perfect for our big family reunion just 3+ miles down river and it gave my sons' families a serene place to recoup from the 100+ crowd. Our place on the Yaak is our little piece of heaven and you proved that it extends well beyond our property. It had us wishing we could have taken advantage of all you offered instead of spending so much time at the reunion :) Well done!

                                                        Great Vacation Property!

                                                        Crystal J.Bemidji, MN

This was a great property to stay at. Renovated and clean, it went beyond our expectations. Kitchen had an array of staples, from spices to flour. We cooked most meals there, never found anything we needed that they didn't have, even needed a cheese grater and they had that! Cabin does not have any cell reception but has open WiFi so that helped when we needed to connect (which was not very often!). Has satellite TV, as well. Large dining room table but we spent most of our time sitting at the bar looking at the river. Speaking of the river, theres some great fishing right out of the door! Caught something every day, every time we went out. The highlight was the 18" Rainbow Trout! Lots of Mountain Whitefish, caught a couple beautiful Brook Trout, too! Every day there were deer along the banks that we watched and even saw an osprey, eagle, beaver and skunk. Did not use the bunk house, but it had a small kitchen and bathroom in it, along with a bedroom and a loft. Great for another couple or the kids. Lots of books and quite a few games, although some games were missing pieces and vital parts (like the Yahtzee dice! Lol). Bathroom was well equipped and had some staples available to use in case you forgot something. Washer and dryer was definitely a plus! Hiking was great, but recommend the DRIVE to Mt Baldy, even though the trail head was right by the cabin! We like to hike but the difficulty of that trail was far beyond what we were willing to do! The drive up was great, beautiful views and we saw a moose and some mule deer. Northwestern Peak was a great hike, moderate difficulty but well worth it. Yaak Mercantile has basics to purchase, chips, staples, soda, beer, coffee (they have a small coffee bar, too), snacks, canned goods... get your groceries in Libby or Troy! Overall, loved the cabin, was very relaxing and we will be back!!!

                                                        Incredible Escape

                                                        Carrie S.

The house and location were perfect. We had a wonderful, relaxing stay and enjoyed fishing right in front of the house and hiking nearby. The kitchen was great, and we cooked every night. Everything we needed or wanted was right at our fingertips. What a treasure -- we have already talked to our family about returning next year!

                                                        Amazing vacation

                                                        Olunda D.

This is one of the first times I have gone on vacation and wasn't ready to go home when our week was up. We rented this vrbo last year for 3 days and as soon as we got home we booked for one week this year. The weather was wonderful...enjoyed the Dirty Shame saloon in Yaak...had great evening fires and, oh, those night skies so filled with stars...took your breath away. Family members also did some tubing on the river, we enjoyed the deer each morning and evening just across the river. This home has all the luxuries of home and then some. Close to Bonners Ferry for a little shopping or lunch. We hope to be back again next year.

The property is well cared for and the owner is very easy to contact.

There are wonderful rides in this area for motorcycle enthusiasts as well.

We would definitely recommend this home away to any of our friends and family, as long as they take us with them.
