Great getaway not far from the coast!
Some friends and I were looking to get away for a few days, and this home was perfect! It's a bright and cheery little house facing Russian River and is surrounded by ferns and tall redwood trees. The trail in the back near the creek was fun to explore and the house is super close to Duncan Mills, which is an adorable little area. I'd definitely recommend checking out Goat Rock State Park as well -- despite inclement weather and bursts of rain, it was absolutely stunning. Jayne was super easy to communicate with and was very accommodating! The kitchen was perfect and had everything we needed to make meals, and we had more than enough blankets and heaters to stay cozy. The back living area did get a little cold (we didn't get a chance to use the wood stove, unfortunately) and the rain against the roof in that room got loud during more intense bouts, but I would still highly recommend staying here. If it was this great during a winter rain storm, I can only imagine how perfect it would be in the fall/spring/summer!
This was the second time here for our family of 3. It is in a beautiful location in Redwoods, ferns, with a seasonal creek running right by. The kitchen is very well appointed and had tea, local coffee, and oil and vinegar etc. We were welcomed by fresh flowers and pumpkin bread. The wifi was rapid. It is only 10 minutes to the ocean and Goat Rock State Park. We have also gone hiking at Armstrong Redwood State Park near by. Duncan Mills near by has a good coffee shop, a small general store with some food, and 2 restaurants.
The owner is not near by but she responded quickly by internet to all questions.
Wonderful place to relax, rejuvenate and come back to after exploring the surrounding forests, ocean and river. Encased in the fern room or just sitting on the deck all is well. We will return.
Our home has a private path along the seasonal creek through the redwood forest and a peekaboo view of the river across the street!
Duncans Mills is a quaint town w/ great shops & art galleries, restaurants, bakery, coffee shop, grocery store w/ organic choices, local meats, wines; check out the website www.duncansmills.net
Less than 15 min from the house is the mouth of the river where you can rent kayaks (wetsuits etc included) and paddle with sea lions! Also a great beach - Goat Rock just south of the town of Jenner and many more as you drive to Bodega Bay .. Less than 15 minutes south.
Lots to do.. Or simply enjoy the tranquility of our home !
