This charming three bedroom cottage is a a short walk (less than 1/4 mile) to the beach down a foot path through the dunes. We built the cottage in 1978 and have kept the unit updated because our children and grandchildren use it. The kitchen was just upgraded with new appliances, new counters, new counters and new floor. We rent it only for short periods of the year.
It is immaculately kept with butternut tree wood panelling, two living areas, an upstairs bedroom with a wonderful view of the sea from the front window; there is a full bath next to the bedroom. There is one bedroom with twin beds and another bedroom that can be configured as two twin beds or a king size bed on the first floor; there is a full bath on the first floor.
There is a huge deck behind the house with table and chairs-perfect for any meal but special for evenings as you watch the sunset. The home is in a quiet part of 'Sconset a short walk or bike ride from 'Sconset center where there is a general store (ice cream a specialty), four restaurants, and a post office.
There is a cozy fireplaced family room and an adjacent living room with a vaulted ceiling and another TV. Two full tile baths were recently redone. Comes with lots of beach books, puzzles and games. This is the perfect place for a romantic getaway or for family and friends to gather.
Nantucket has lots of activities, from beaching and biking to fishing, golf and tennis, Within a mile, there is a public golf course, a lifeguarded beach, and the start of two long bike paths for safe riding. In the city of Nantucket, there are museums and specialty shops.

About Jeff Drazen
I am a physician and Professor at Harvard Medical School. My wife and I first came to Nantucket in 1972 and we have been back every summer since. I worked in the hospital for 5 years and then we bought the land and built this house. Our children and grandchildren consider Nantucket their summer home. This is easy living. There are a huge variety of summer activities available on the island including outdoor activities such as fishing, tennis, golf, biking, hiking, beach walking and the like. I enjoy making Nantucket Lightship baskets and there are many classs that one can take to learn this unique island art form.
Jeff Drazen purchased this Cottage in 1978
Why Jeff Drazen chose Siasconset
Our location is on Nantucket, a busy summer resort, but it is in a very quiet part of the island. Many people with houses in the Town of Nantucket come to 'Sconset for the summer because of its cool ocean breezes and relaxed pace of life. The area near our house is safe for little children to play, while there are lots of activities very close by so you or your older children never wonder-what to do.
What makes this Cottage unique
Our location is always cool. In the summer the prevailing wind is from the southwest and we are on the southwest shore. As you listen to the ocean washing up on the beach you feel the cool sea breezes and can enjoy being outside. The beach is a short walk away, so you can stroll down before dinner and collect shells or just sit and watch the waves. We have accumulated books and games for all ages and leave them for you to use during your visit.

Comfortable place, close to beach and a bit secluded. Well provisioned and helpful owner.
All was good and basically everything we expected. Beach access was a small issue but problem was reaolved. If the island allows, a narrow boardwalk down to the beach would have made it perfect.
Nice cottage close to beach- great for families.
Our week at Low Salt was everything we hoped for -- comfortable quarters, wonderful location, beautiful breezes on the back deck and throughout the house. We biked everywhere and there were many birds in the yard for the birders in the group to observe. The beach is a short walk away, as are the many restaurants and amenities in the town of Sconset. The cottage is the perfect mix of quiet, comfort, and convenience to everything. We will definitely be back!
Beautiful cottage in a peaceful area
Low Salt cottage provided a perfect location for five adults seeking a quiet, relaxing stay on the island. The three bedrooms and two baths were all comfortable. The large sitting area was very congenial as was the back deck. It was a very quiet location, though only a short walk to the beach or to Sconset. You do need a car to stay here, however.
Great Place for Everyone!
We have been vacationing on Nantucket for just over 20 years. Over the past few vacations we have migrated from in-town back to the slower and more relaxing beach areas. We bring over our car so there really is not any reason to stay in town. This property is the perfect home to enjoy all that Nantucket has to offer. My kids preferred the convenient walk across the street and down the path to the isolated beach during the sunny days, in past years we would need to drive the beach. The Summer House restaurant is conveniently located just up the street for those nights that you want to step it up but still simply walk along the ocean past the rose covered fences on your way to dinner. The area also provided an ideal backdrop for our bicycle rides and the early morning runs. We ended up cooking at the house most nights on the grill before playing the numerous board games, puzzles and cards that are available. The family was able to unwind and truly enjoyed our time together at Low Salt. This house is very nice with a living room for the adults and then a separate beach themed living space that worked out well for the kids, especially when we wanted to retire for the evening prior to the others. I looked forward to the antique hand cranked coffee bean grinder that is mounted in the kitchen; it was the perfect touch to starting your day in a place that you want the time to just stand still. Book the Low Salt house with confidence if you have toddlers, children or are all adults.
My wife and I spent wonderful 10 days. The location is quiet and peaceful with a short walk across the dunes to the ocean. Town is a pleasant 15 minute walk. The house is comfortable and has all the conveniences needed. I highly recommend Low Salt cottage for a picture perfect stay.
Our cottage is in the village of Siasconset on the eastern shore of Nantucket. It is a quiet summer village with lots of activities including beach-combing, kite flying, bicycle riding, golf and tennis.

Additional information about rental rates
You should seriously consider taking a car to stay in this house. We are 7 miles from Nantucket Town and in the shoulder season there is bus service to the village of 'Sconset only once or twice an hour-the bus stop is 0.7 miles from the house. Taxi/Uber is available with the ride fee of about $25 (depends on the number of passengers) to our cottage from the boat docks or $20 from the airport. Although you can easily ride a bicycle to Town on a safe bike path, it is no fun in the rain. A car be driven over on the Woods Hole, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket Steamship Authority (you must make your own reservations as far as possible in advance at: https://www.steamshipauthority.com/visitors/nantucket). Cars are also available to rent on the island-reservations required for car rentals.
