What can I say about Berkeley? It is home to one of the world's great universities and is known for the high concentration of fine eating establishments including Chez Panisse by Alice Waters, the Cheese Board Collective, as well as the first ever Peet's Coffee & Tea Shop. Sidewalk cafes, bakeries, coffee houses, wine shops, boutiques, artisan home decor, and flower stands all lend the area a European ambiance. Fourth street has fine shopping in a variety of stores.
Berkeley also features two major theater companies as well as numerous small theater groups, symphonic and chamber orchestras, Cal Performances, several movie houses, and museums.
Come and enjoy!!

About Jean Holmes
East - West, Berkeley is Best The east coast owner moved west 5 years ago, renovated her aunt’s house in Berkeley and has truly fallen in love with her home and all that Berkeley has to offer. A retired Landscape Architect, I love to garden and am currently trying my hand at watercolor and pastel portraits. I love to travel but always love coming home to Berkeley.
Jean Holmes purchased this Studio in 2006
Why Jean Holmes chose Berkeley Hills
There is so much to do in this area!! I love the theater, hike frequently in many of the nearby parks, and take classes at the university whenever possible.
What makes this Studio unique
Location, location, location! The public transportation is convenient, and UC Berkeley is a 25 minute walk down the hill.

A roomy, comfortable studio in the Berkeley Hills
This roomy, well furnished studio provided a very comfortable bed, great shower, and a kitchen with all the basics. It's near a bus stop and near restaurants and parks. The view from the kitchen window was great, but an oleander bush blocked the view a little from the main room. Jean was helpful and had everything ready for us when we arrived.
Jean's Studio Apt. is lovely and it looks just like the pictures on the website
The property is extremely well maintained. It absolutely satisfied all our needs and then some. (Namely, the view over the Bay from the studio is very special.) The property is located within easy walking distance of the university and downtown Berkeley giving one access to an extremely large number of restaurants and the like. One also has easy access to BART and the city.
Jean was extremely helpful in answering any questions we had and otherwise made our stay very enjoyable. If the apartment is available the next time we're in the Bay Area, we would definitely rent it again. Need I say more!!
And you and Marty were lovely guests. Please do come again
Super restful accomodations
It was perfect. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the wonderful studio up on a hill. It was just the right home base to visit with our son. The view is spectacular and the studio had all the amenities we needed. We thoroughly enjoyed exploring various locales in Berkeley and Oakland which are all close by. A car would not strictly be necessary but some of the hill is quite steep for walking. A car smaller than Standard size would be more practical for parking as well.
This is a fantastic place to stay. Super clean and comfortable and Jean is most helpful.
Great place and even greater owner
This was the second time I stayed with Jean at her lovely home in its incredible setting. The view from the hills down the SF Bay and setting sun in the afternoon is incredible. You cannot get this view from a hotel and you cannot get this deal at a hotel. And the set-up is perfect for a single person or couple staying a few days in Berkeley (maybe to visit child at Cal like I was). But the best part of this place is Jean. I am from the Houston area and while I was in Berkeley hurricane Harvey hit Houston and flooded everything, including the airports. I couldn't get back home for almost a week. Jean could not have been more kind, helpful, understanding, compassionate, friendly...there are not enough complimentary words. You will not find a better host on VRBO (Home Away). It's like I have family (good family), in Berkeley, I can go visit anytime I want. That makes me happy.
And I enjoyed having you. I hope that Huston recovers as quickly as possible.
See you next time
The studio is very quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed our stay, morning jog in the neighborhood, and beautiful view of the Bay. The owner is very informative and helpful!
