Very disappointed with this house, management, and false-advertising, and would not recommend it to anyone looking to stay in the winter. Upon arrival, we quickly found out that the quarter mile long to half mile long driveway was a sheet of ice and our vehicle with four-wheel drive and chains would not make it up. We had to haul all of our luggage, gear, and food 15 minutes each way up a steep, icy driveway just to get into the house or back to your car. The road is clearly not maintained in the winter and the owners never bother to salt or sand the road, so be prepared to walk every time you arrive and depart the house.
As we were sliding down the driveway into the snowbank on our first attempt to get up the windy road, a plow from the property management company showed up, a good two hours after our designated check in time. The plow told us that we weren't going to be able to make it up the drive and that most cars couldn't. He then began to plow the recently fallen snow, only to expose a think layer of sheer ice, making it harder to find traction while walking. Needless to say, I think everyone from our party of 10 slipped and fell at least once. The plow got about halfway up the drive and then left, never to return the rest of the weekend, despite the continual snow.
Once we finally got to the house, we walked in to find unclean bathrooms and a bag of trash by the door. The maids had not been to the house despite the fact that we arrived 2 hours past check-in. After about 20 minutes, the maids actually did show up, their car not able to make it up the drive either, and they picked up the trash but cleaned none of the dirty bathrooms.
The second night we were there, a group of people had rented out the guest house, and could also not get up the driveway in either of their two vehicles. There is no parking at the bottom of the driveway as it icily leads into a busy road, so 5 vehicles between the two locations parked at the bottom of a road was nearly impossible. It was also very unsafe if any emergency vehicles needed to come up as we blocked the entire driveway. This was necessary because you couldn't park in front of each other as the road was too icy to even get that far and even if you could, you'd slide into the car parked behind you. The group staying at the guest house knocked on our door and seemed pissed as they couldn't get up the driveway either and there was no key or code left for them to get into the house with.
We had a wonderful time at this home in Carbondale. It is an amazing property with awesome breathtaking views. Snow was awesome and the kids had a great time sledding and making snowmen. Since we were there in the winter and it was snowing, we had some difficulty getting up the drive, it cannot be done unless you have snow tires or chains - so just be aware. The owners were very easy to work with and always prompt in their responses to any inquiry.
This is an amazing property, the house is beautiful and fully equipped with amenities. The view is breathtaking that it looks like a painting. This property definitely elevated our experience in Colorado during our vacations and we can't wait to come back soon!
The pictures do not justify the beauty of this place. It is an amazing place to relax and get away from the busy city life.
Our original plans were were changed at the last minute and the owners of this place were more than happy to help us achieve our relaxing time. They were easy to work with and very helpful with all of the questions we had.
The place is on reasonable distance Gleenwood Colorado.
The kitchen, the bathrooms, the bedrooms, the whole house is an outstanding place to relax.
Our family stayed here and at the guest house for 5 days. There were 9 adults and 6 children ages 2,4,4,5,6,8. We had a great time and enjoyed the house. Each adult family had their own bedroom. The property was clean and well maintained. The owner was very helpful and prompt in answering our many questions.
The house is about 10 minutes from Carbondale, where we enjoyed the 4th of July parade. The Maroon Bells near Aspen were great fun and we saw the now famous Bull Moose (2 of them) near the falls just up from Maroon Lake. Of course, the pool at Glenwood Springs was a great hit for the whole family. We also did a jeep trip from Marble to Crystal and the Mill on the Crystal River was really fun to visit.
We enjoyed the kitchen at the house and ate all of our meals there. The pictures are accurate, although they do not do justice to the incredible view of Mt. Sopris.
Thanks for a great vacation!
PS- We rode the Amtrack train up to Glenwood from Denver. It was TERRIBLE! It took 10 hours to get from Denver to Glenwood. Don't do the train!!!!
It was the perfect opportunity to get away from the sounds of the city and find a quite place to relax. The location was GREAT away from traffic and other noise, and still close enough to find a great resturant in Basalt or go to the pool in Glenwood Springs. We had a wide range in ages so even the high school kids had fun at the pool and caverns while the rest us read, relaxed, and shopped. The kitchen was perfect for a group of wanna be cooks - - -plenty of room and great selection of spices and misc. items that seem to never make the trip.
We will definately be back - - in fact the next time we are going to rent the guest house along with the main and include some aunts and uncles to come along and enjoy the beauty of Mt. Sopris and valley the property overlooks.
